do you belive in the bible?
if so, do you belive it word for word?
some thoughts: 1. Many belive the bible was written 200 years after the death of jesus. so people must have had very good memories back then. think about it, i bet if you chatted to somone for five mins you could not remember word perfect what they said. they did not record what he said. chances are his followers could not even read or write. 2. It was not in english. Its been translated. And the meaning of words change. Take the word gay, it used to mean happy. Niggar in old english meant devil, and so on. Thus what may have been written 2000 years ago may mean somthing different today. |
Seriously............? *facepalm*
P.s. you forgot to link to a daily mail article |
It's a shame that we all lack the ability to even imagine ourselves being as stupid as you are. It must be fascinating.
|
so you see the threads about the bible and stuff today and a lot of people post in the threads so you make a thread in hopes that a lot will post and come on really? This is not 2000.

I believe in the Bible - I actually saw one once on a bookshelf. There, proof they exist.
|
I read a bunch of it once - nothing but murder and rape and incest and womens blood being spilled - babies getting wacked... a vile and despicable book...just violent awful fairy tales that assholes use as a weapon of control, or for monetary gain.

This passage is the strongest evidence there is for a historical Jesus, written in Antiquities of the Jews by the historian Flavius Josephus in the first century. "But the younger Ananus who, as we said, received the high priesthood, was of a bold disposition and exceptionally daring; he followed the party of the Sadducees, who are severe in judgment above all the Jews, as we have already shown. As therefore Ananus was of such a disposition, he thought he had now a good opportunity, as Festus was now dead, and Albinus was still on the road; so he assembled a council of judges, and brought before it the brother of Jesus the so-called Christ, whose name was James, together with some others, and having accused them as law-breakers, he delivered them over to be stoned." The debate centers around whether Christians a couple of centuries later added this, since there are no original copies of the book there will never be a definitive answer. I've read the arguments on both sides and I'm more convinced it's authentic than not. I don't think a bunch of Jews got together and created a fictional character - I believe they created fiction around a real person. |

And however the arrogantly self titled and hypocritical "holy men" of the Vatican and Catholic church got their start, they perverted the word of God with Paganistic rituals and direct contradictions to the words of Christ according to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. And most religions are essentially fucked for that matter. Islam's main leader was a child molester, Buddhists believe they're fat slob Buddha is always right with the eightfold path, and Jews are followers of Lucifer without realizing it! |

I read an interesting thing not long ago, that until a culture has a written multi-syllabic language where the eyes/brain can follow sequentially that people are unable to discern fantasy from reality. |
Nobody here should give a shit if it was real or not. The only thing you need to know is that it sold a shit ton of copies...figure out the marketing scheme there and you'll be sitting Scrouge pretty.

It was originally written by a small tribe of Jewish goat herders in the Bronze Age. They didn't have any understanding of anything. They thought the Earth was flat. They didn't know what a molecule is. Or bacteria. Or even what existed 50 miles from where they lived. When lightning struck it was "God" being angry. It's a bunch of superstitions written by a backward primitive people. And somehow there are "scholars" to "study" it. :1orglaugh You gotta admit, when you step back and think about it for a second...it's goddamn ridiculous to "study" a book that is primitive and simpleminded and is basically a collection of fairy tales (unless you really believe a whale swallowed Jonah) |

And for how backward and primitive those people were, here we are 4,000 years later the majority of this planet in 2014 worships that same God those primitive people conceived as the Creator of the Universe - Christianity, Islam and Judaism, all worship the same god, Yahweh the god of ancient Israel. That's almost as unbelievable and supernatural as anything in the Bible. |

To answer your question. No. Jolly |
Word for word is how it is supposed to be read as it is designed to scare and control the masses. Dissecting the historical truth is almost impossible with interpretation issues between scrolls from ancient Hebrew via other older languages to modern English.
Speaking of word for word. If someone was a virgin in biblical times they were unwed but an immaculate conception has more merit. With every ones vast medical knowledge in biblical times they could probably spot a virgin a cubit away. |

Sorry but do i believe in witch version?
Bible versions in English: http://www.bible-reviews.com/charts_basic.html end of story. |
No but it's a nice book with cool stories to make it short.
|
Just wish it would be better written. I mean: bloody violence, incest,
gang rapes, everything in there. It's just the style of writing that sucks. . |
We should not be talking that here!

The bible is a piece of fiction, partially based on true events, all of which were embellished or changed completely in order to fit the doctrine of Christianity. I'll tell you one thing. If Jesus did exist, he was not fucking European, the way he has been portrayed physically throughout history. He was born in or around Israel, so he would have looked completely middle eastern. Also, back then there were no condoms, so nearly everyone was either from a large family or was an illegitimate child. My point is that Jesus likely had lots of brothers and sisters and lots of children with different women.
|
There is no proof of Jesus at all.
Why is it nothing was written about him while he was alive or just after his death as was written about so many of his contemporary's? For someone as important as him to be ignored in "his time" shows how the BS factory was turned on long after his death. |

My take on that figure is similar to what someone wrote above. Most likely he was mixed race. I suspect his height was above average at the time. He was probably good looking and spoke 5-6 languages. He was most likely exceptionally bright. His miracles are easily accounted for by his intelligence. Village is sick and dying? Well back then people were dumb as rocks and would shit and piss at the top of a hill and take water from the bottom. One simple change, and wollah, village is not sick anymore. Simple things like that. Spreading common sense, which at the time was an act of genius. Anyway, about the bible, many theories revolving it. The original version was supposedly put together by a group of mushroom cultists and took them hundreds of years. They made it with the plan to control masses. Later it was warped and different religions were morphed into it, stories from different cultures added to it. A tool to control the masses. |

Don't know of a single document where Jesus is mentioned by anyone who was alive when he was. Show me one example. |
I can't believe you guys are debating it.
Mutt, hit the nail on the head by pointing out the absurdity of modern man "worshiping" anything. I'll say it again: it was a small tribe of people who had ZERO education (not even any education for the time they lived in: The Bronze Age). They told "stories" to their kids. Hundreds of years later...actual people who could read and write sat down and wrote the stories down. Back then, people believed in "magic" and "miracles" and other assorted nonsense. In 2014...I can not fathom why people would believe in any of this crap. Or the Muslim religion. Or Buddhism. Or anything else. The only conclusion I can come to is that human beings are self-aware. And we know of our own mortality and can't stand the thought of it. So we make up stories of an "after-life" Deep down we all know it's bullshit. That's why we grieve when a loved one dies. If we REALLY believed in an afterlife then "dying" wouldn't mean shit to any of us. Matter of fact we would all be hoping for that to happen as quickly as possible. But deep down we know better. I think most people are like I USED to be. Hedging their bets. lol I used to have the attitude that "it couldn't hurt" to "believe" in God "just in case". heh-heh And if it makes people feel better then so be it. But "The Bible"? As I said...stories told to kids from a primitive tribe. Written down hundreds of years later. Then, believe it or not...an EGYPTIAN decided which books of the bible to include and which ones NOT to include. Kind of hard to believe that a guy from a culture that would soon after turn full Muslim once did that. And then, of course...hundreds of years after all of that, it was re-written again at the order of King James to fit HIS idea of what it should say. The whole thing is just ridiculous. |

of course it is a fairy tale story...first crack at science fiction. im just in here debating to discuss how it came about. i rather discuss this sort of topic here than with some of my friends who are religious nut jobs |
There are some great stories in the bible, but that's all they are. Stories. Tales. Fiction.
