What touched off the outcry near St. Louis?
Michael Brown, an unarmed black 18-year-old who was about to begin college, was shot multiple times and killed Saturday afternoon in a confrontation with a police officer in Ferguson, Mo., a St. Louis suburb.

What do police say happened?
According to St. Louis County?s police chief: Brown was walking with a friend in the middle of the street when a Ferguson police officer tried to exit his vehicle. Brown pushed the officer back into the police car, then entered the car, and a struggle ensued over the officer?s weapon. A shot was fired inside the car. The officer and Brown then exited the vehicle, and the fatal shooting occurred.

What do witnesses say happened?
Dorian Johnson, a friend of Brown?s, told Fox 2 that he and Brown were walking in the street when the police car pulled up. The officer said to "get the eff onto the sidewalk," he recounted. Johnson said the officer reached out of the car window and grabbed Brown around the neck.
Another witness, Piaget Crenshaw, said she saw police chase Brown. ?He ran for his life,? she said. ?They shot him and he fell. He put his arms up to let them know that he was compliant and he was unarmed, and they shot him twice more and he fell to the ground and died."

I originally thought the police presence was over bearing. They had the one night of rioting, and then the following night(s) it seemed to me the police were tossing in tear gas just for kicks.

Then last night they rioted again, this time attacking the store the kid robbed. Well that's just fucking brilliant - the store owner did NOTHING wrong, and now he's going to be out of business for months. (I did never did understand the concept of looting a local store in your own community.)

I've lost complete respect for the community there. This kid committed a felony, assaulted a police officer, and put the police officer in a potentially life threatening situation. Now the community is looting it's own local businesses.

The US military gives away or sells it's vehicles at extreme discount to get rid of them, and the local police take them for situations like these. It looks like over kill until you remember us Americans can legally own the same assault rifles our military uses.

Also, most likely these vehicles are not owned by the local police department, but instead on loan from a larger city. A few years back we had a propane train tank fire and most of our town was evacuated, and local police and firemen used such vehicles near the site of the fire to protect them from any potential explosions.

When you have military gear, you have a military mindset. The military's job is to go into places and kill(for the most part). That's not what police are supposed to be doing.

Armored police vehicles are used for many types of applications. High risk warrants to riots aka unlawful assemblies. They are usually given as grants. It's not a dick measuring contest but something for first responders to have in situations where there is an active shooter etc..

I've never understood this - why riot? All you are doing is damaging your own community. If I had a business that was destroyed by a riot, I would never open up shop in that town again.

I just don't understand of this.... Great, an eighteen year old man who committed multiple felonies in his life was just killed by the police. This sad and tragic on multiple levels. I understand their need to protest. But I don't understand the rioting. They are angry at the police department, not local businesses.

How does breaking into the local gas station, fast food restaurant, and convenience store and looting them fix anything? I've never understood looting. "I'm mad, so let me fuck up someone else's day". That makes no sense at all.

Exactly... Last night on the ferguson police page it said the Mcdonalds and papa johns places were being over run and the employees were hiding in the back calling 911...

Time for the People to take back their businesses and homes.

The riot is not about one person getting shot, that's just your personal analysis of it.

It's about a pattern of deaths in recent years that only got jokes and insults for justice.
Anger is something that can build over time.
This riot is about a system, not an incident.

But you will not acknowledge the "system problem"; therefore you actually refuse to understand what you claim that you can't understand.

Now that I have just told you what it is, I'll just watch you not understand it again.
And that's why violence works, because you will do what is needed to stop the violence even if you don't understand it.

Not sure, but it looks like a paint ball gun and that's not the CO2, it's where the ammo goes, what he is using for ammo makes a difference, now they shoot tear gas paint balls. They hit you and gas you at the same time, proven to be very effective in crowds.

They just crank up the power output to about 400fps and they sting too. Yu can shoot these out of any paintball gun. I have one that's got a full auto setting!

Anyone think it's possible martial law could be coming in Ferguson? I don't think this is going to stop unless heads start getting cracked.

I know the Nat Guard is there now, but is this a true martial law situation yet?
