we should give texas back to mexico

seriously.

every problem in the USA starts with texas. the obsession with christ is denying rights to women & gays. the last texas radical christian president hyped us into needless war & is responsible for as much bloodshed as histories massest murderers. the gun lobby ideology that arms spree shooters starts in texas. They dont even have a fucking building code, you can build a rocketship in your backyard no problemo. they still have "dry" counties, what year is this?

other than that, love the state.

:)

mineistaken 06-30-2015 05:46 PM

texas is tight, not cool for liberal hipsters though

dyna mo 06-30-2015 05:46 PM

you sound like euros and canadians who don't understand guns in America, so they try to change us instead of embracing us as their quirky kick ass uncle with a 4x4 and gun rack.

Or - sounds like a leftist/libtist/hipstist :winkwink:

The good news for you is many Texans would be very happy to secede. Though Texans don't realize they need the United States and the United States doesn't realize they need Texas.

We all preach about "accepting" others, until the "other" doesn't agree with us. ;-)

Rather get rid of Ny. and most of the north eastern area's.

i myself believe we should either ban guns, or legalize machine guns. this middle ground is the worst of both worlds. for if we really are gonna be a gun culture, i wanna carry an uzi.

Austin is hardly liberal. It's the fucking state capital! I lived there for years. Before that an ex went to UT, shit tons of rednecks in Austin.

The Capitol of Texas is very liberal and Hip.. Just hoot as fuck in the summer..

jimmycooper 06-30-2015 06:09 PM

FYI - Houston is the most populous U.S. city to elect an openly gay mayor.

People forget that Texas has long, storied history of progressive politics. LBJ and Ann Richards are probably my two favorite politicians of all time.

It's still considered to be pretty liberal. I went to UT and have been back many times. When were you there?

My ex graduated from there in 92, I lived in Houston during those years. Then I relocated there with an internet startup from 1998-2002. My parents lived there for a number of years as well.

It's not the rest of Texas.. Example.. Name another city in Texas which has as many parks as Austin.. Let's not even get into the nudist state park at hippie hollow or the topless swiming hole at Barton Springs..

Also Austin City Limits is the longest lasting weekly live music show. It's almost never redneck shit, but rather rock, alternative and so on.

Where did we hang out in Austin? She over in those rail yard apartments kinda close to campus but closer to 6th st, so we went there a lot. I can't remember the names of the joints, all were super gun and we saw some killer bands. Killer. My favorite restaurant was that one that was like a trailer park, do know which one that is? Delicious. Barton springs road. And of course killer BBQ, county line, salt something. Mmmmmm

jimmycooper 06-30-2015 06:27 PM

damn just found out my favorite Austin bar closed in 2013. Bummer.

Yup - he jerks off standing up and pisses sitting down. Go figure. :)

The "problem" with Texas is that Texas feels as if Texas is its' own country (which it was and technically still is) and can do whatever the fuck it wants regardless of how the rest of America feels about it. Which is fine (Californians, New Yorkers and Floridians feel the same way) but it becomes a problem when it comes to annoying little things like the economy, international relations, war and human rights. Oh, and oil. And Mexicans. And drugs. And determining what goes in (and what stays out of) textbooks the rest of America uses to teach their non-Texan tykes.

But hey, Go Cowboys ("America's" team)!

PS: Austin is jam-packed with cool music, amazing eats and awesome people. Austin is so cool it should be in New Mexico. :)

MiamiBoyz 06-30-2015 06:30 PM

Fuck Texas AND Florida while we are at it!

Oh I know. Austin is much better than any other city in Texas that I lived in. But it ain't liberal. I watched plenty of hate fueled shit go down on 6th street. That's morein line with where I'm coming from. There ate hip and fun hangouts there, Barton springs is incredible. But I never found it to be a liberal city.

Are you talking about Threadgills?

Threadgill's

salt licks is the bbq place you're talking about...

https://www.saltlickbbq.com/

Stubbs on Red River is another great BBQ place.

Stubb's BBQ

I had an advertising internship at the Austin Chronicle during my junior year so I was always really well taken care of when it came to getting free tickets to pretty much anything.

I used to like going back for SXSW but now it seems a bit to hectic. Total pain in the ass. Have definitely seem some great shows there over the years though.

6th street is pretty much for freshman/sophomores, out-of-towners, and other less-desirables. Total ghetto. 4th St. is pretty liberal as is Red River, East 6th, South Congress. Rainey St. is another cool area. Kind of like an Austin version of Tribeca.

when i first moved there in 1998, i had a big ole harley. i had noticed the guy across the street had one so one day i figured i'd walk over there and see about riding, as i was walking over, he was walking to his garage, opened the garage door and hanging on the back wall of the garage was a HUGE confederate flag. i just turned right around and didn't look back. Nevertheless, over the next several years I logged 10000s of miles riding around that area, meeting/not-meeting people, eating great food, stepping in dog shit, whateve, many varied experiences, but i just don't remember anything liberal as a current or theme or tone there. and I'm from the South, my parents are from the deep South. I was raised in Pasadena, so anything liberal is noticeable to me and even more so then.

i'm not saying you are wrong, but i am saying in my experience i didn't find Austin liberal .
