Does Mass Surveillance Bather You
Does it bother you that governments have a comprehensive record of all your personal information, personal emails, social networks, medical records, phone calls, credit card records including a shit load of other stuff such as your shopping habits.
I know some people who just don't seem to care. They be like it's for the greater good. I know others that be like. It's a fricken outrage. Just wondered what you thought. |
Yes
. |
Not at all. My personal information is rather dull.
My medical records for the past twenty years will reveal a lot of dental work, a broken toe, and a potassium deficiency. Exciting stuff. My text messages are mostly between my wife and family and a few friends making plans and "where are you" or "what do you want to eat". Lame. Facebook messenger might reveal some naughty pictures I've sent to a few friends, but frankly, nothing that would really raise an eyebrow. My emails are all business like and rather professional. My skype and ICQ messages are all politically correct. The most damaging thing about me would most likely be my account here on GFY. I don't really have anything to hide from anyone. |
Fuck the more I read about it the more paranoid I get.

I have LOADS to hide and I am happy to admit it - MY PRIVATE FUCKING LIFE. |
Anyone who says that they have nothing to hide should volunteer to give all of their info to government burocrats... And leave the rest of us to our private life.
. |
You young guys wouldn't understand but I would rather have no internet than EVERY move I make stored in a database.

Of course, most people don't know much about Prism and Tempora and so on but your PC doesn't even need to be connected to the internet - files can be removed without your permission even if you are offline, as Snowden released some time ago: Well said Pink but you don't need to be connected to the internet anyway.... they can still spy on your computer. |

I'm so tired when I hear this "I have nothing to hide" phrase. Its like arguing with mindless and shortsighted idiot. I'm sorry if I offended someone, but thats what I think exactly

My honest answer would be that I truthfully dont really care at all about my own info - But I do care that it is happening to others who would rather it not be happening too.
|
surveillance is a 2-edged razor. but since i live in a fairly insignificant part of europe, it doesn't affect me that much, nor is it overly apparent.
|
I look at it as one of priorities and security.
I'm so low on the Governments priorities scale, they won't bother. There are people out there dedicated to harming me, and having others watching them. Is my security. The only people who want all surveillance removed. Are the ones with something to hide. |

I disagree, I have nothing to hide. I just don't want governments to have full control over our personal lives. I don't want my details used as part of mass experiments to analyse our behaviour patterns.
If they know everything they can control everything. |
I wouldn't say that I'm happy with this, but, on the positive side, hope they enjoy reading through my personal mailbox :) It's mostly spam anyway.
Developing this thought, we might wanna thank spam for making it so easy to conceal info. If anyone goes through my email every day - I pity them so bad :( |

If you are still tracked it has to be done with the old style aka James Bond drinking Martinis on your tail. |
Think it's more of once ya let a little freedom slip then it turns into what else can we do. So on a limited scale doesn't bother me but kinda scary how little can turn into no limits. I try to say keywords on phone calls so I get tapped occasionally. I am happy they are starting to remove red light traffic cameras here though as that bothers me the most. :1orglaugh

wtf is a bather??? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Imagine, in a different reality, if they targeted the porn industry. Remember the movie "The Net"?
Imagine if you put out ads for models, but 80% of responses were not forwarded to you, and the ones that were, were the ugliest ones. Imagine if, slowly over time, 80% sales were diverted, making you broke. This is possible right now and do you trust any government not to use this power? They have been and they are right now. |

Then why don't you volunteer to have the govt put camera's in every room of your house? You've got nothing to hide. |

I'm just saying, FB has done this, they've admitted it. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-intersect/wp/2014/07/01/9-answers-about-facebooks-creepy-emotional-manipulation-experiment/ Anyone would be a fool to think governments aren't doing it. China has been doing this since the beginning. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_in_China |
Quote:
And in marketing we do manipulation all the time. Usually some positive goal in mind. We are doing manipulation in here right now, I am trying to affect your mind, dude. And you are trying to affect the rest of us. And the stuff what I do? Well.. for example running A/B test to see the effects of different content; that is essentially manipulation and studying the effects. Just what FB did. |

Also, I didn't say that "the government", or anyone, is redirecting 80% of porn sales. I said "Imagine, in a different reality . . ." Know what you're reading before you respond. ANY electronic communication can be intercepted / redirected, and some can be manipulated. This is a fact. Hackers live off this vulnerability of the net. Exploit. |

I don't like leaving some vague scenarios hanging in the air; I imagine what it would be like, for real. So, it would be fool to think that governments aren't doing what? Exactly? |
I have 2 issues with my data being used.
First is personal: I have nothing to hide really but it's quite frightening to see the amount of data these corporations (and the state) has about you. They probably know more about yourself than you do. Your cell phone manufacturer knows where you are at any time of day / night and who you hang out with, facebook knows what sites you visit (provided they have a like button on the page),.... Then on a more philosophical stand point, it is a clear denial of one's right to privacy but more than this, the problem is that it can potentially lead to have you locking yourself into a line of thought when internet should offer the opposite: Google will learn from your search history and the sites you visit and will adjust the search results accordingly to offer you what you want to see... That means that if you always click on "republican" news sites, then after a while, google will give you only right wing results, progressively disconnecting you from the other side of the story. For me, internet should be a place where you see other people's POV not something that is tailored to please you :2 cents: |
Yep, looks like one more way to fill the prisons.
|
maybe you should actually read documents that describe what kind of power we talk about here...in the days of modern technology
what you doing now is spreading your lazy sleepy finnish deepforest bullshit, with all respect. here is the link https://freesnowden.is/revelations/ maybe after reading all of them (from bottom to the top), and spending some hours on studying them...you wont post more nonsense in this topic. maybe :winkwink: Quote:

Anyone who is ok with this is a submissive sheep, and dumb as fuck to boot. The End.
