_Richard_ 05-13-2016 08:08 AM

just a vet to check if all is ok.. family has had a lot of animals over the years.. the found ones either die right away or basically live forever

CaptainHowdy 05-13-2016 08:11 AM

Get him a cat toy or he'll scratch your beloved furniture ...

bigPunk 05-13-2016 08:12 AM

The woman who rescued her took her to the vet and he said shes ok. He wasnt giving her any shots though

Relic 05-13-2016 08:14 AM

Cats are nocturnal, enjoy.

Manfap 05-13-2016 08:14 AM

Dont let it sleep with you. My damn cat sleeps under the covers and steals 1/4 of the bed.

TheDynasty 05-13-2016 08:15 AM

Cats are crepuscular not nocturnal. We have 3 cats and they sleep with us at night up until the morning.

1st off, that is SUPER awesome to anyone who will take in homeless animals. VERY good hearted thing to do, so many props to you/gf for that :)

2nd, yes take to vet, make sure when gets a lil older that she has enough toys, and it's going to happen that she'll want to lay on your laptop while you're using it, hehe, embrace their attention (or they'll demand it!) haha. They are super awesome animals.

Not all cats, some Amazonian jungle cats are fully nocturnal. You have 3 half rabbits btw.

Choopa Phil 05-13-2016 08:32 AM

Tips:

-Multiple liter boxes for a happy kitty
-Laser pointer, feather toys, toys on string, empty boxes(they love these the most)
-Most people think cats just lay around and sleep all day, they do not. They are pretty active in their young years and demand lots of attention. Although they are still pretty independent they love people, warm, and cuddling.
-Dont train them by spraying them with water. Use positive reinforcement to train

Kittens

I have three right now that we found. We had to bottle feed them for about a month. After a while they started drinking milk and eating soft food. I would ask the vet for sure. If you aren't sure how old they are. After a while they'll be fine and eat normal food. They are always hungry like babies.

Lol that one is a special breed. A Devon Rex...doesnt have long fur like a regular cat just the undercoat.

That's the fam. 2 rescues and a devon rex...18 years old, 2 years old, and 10 months

Den BongaCash 05-13-2016 08:35 AM

Buy or make slipcovers for your couches.:thumbsup

CurrentlySober 05-13-2016 08:38 AM

Enjoy playing with the poo they will leave you hidden as presents in the house... :thumbsup

i lik cats :2 cents:

Choopa Phil 05-13-2016 08:40 AM

Big note here...cats only scratch furniture when they don't have something to scratch on. Give them toys and scratching posts and they won't mess with any of your stuff. I have tower speakers in my living room, guest room, and den, along with couches and whatever other furniture and nothing has been ruined or marked up. You have to realize that a couch is no where near as satisfying as their actual post where their nails can really get stuck and dug in. Also keep their nails trimmed and their "want" to claw will be much less

bigPunk 05-13-2016 08:41 AM

Thank guys. she is really small, you can almost fit her in the palm of your hand :)
We will take her to our vet on sunday and open up a file for her there and everything.
Looking forward for her ;) i'm working from home so i'll have plenty of time with her.

I once rescued a black Havana cat and a golden Norwegian forest cat and got them to coexist somewhat peacefully for a long period of time. They liked to behave but only in so far as to get close enough to eat our brains. Violence squared. Magical however. lol

It's nice to see so many responsible and loving cat owners here on GFY.

MaDalton 05-13-2016 08:57 AM

don't even think of declawing a cat unless you are willing also to cut your own fingertips off

Flash photography constitutes cruelty!

2MuchMark 05-13-2016 10:43 AM

Congrats!

Take him to the vet anyway, just to make sure he's ok. At the same time, get some kitten food from the vet. Your vet will probably sell you some wet, fatty food at first and then switch kitty over to dry food in a few months or so.

Kittens get into everything. They will run and play constantly until they pass out and sleep. Play sleep play sleepl eat play sleep poo pee play poo play eat poo play.

Don't get a laser pointer. Yes they chase it around but since there's nothing for them to catch, its just a tease. A great toy is just a small crumpled piece of paper. They will chase it for hours, they will catch it in their claws, and carry it around with them. It's super cute when they pick it up in their mouth and bring it to you. Depending how you want to interpret that, it is either an offering or they just want to play.

Post pictures!

Choopa Phil 05-13-2016 10:57 AM

Actually they love it they just get frustrated if you do it too much without allowing them to "catch it". Same principal applies to those ipad/tablet games. My cats still enjoy it...if they didn't they wouldn't continue to play. They let you know when they're bored or uninterested, laser pointer included.

Laser pointer for a cat = 30-40' sprints across the house which = a tired/happy/in shape cat.

NatalieK 05-13-2016 11:01 AM

She is a Devon Rex. Its a cat that has an undercoat only, no top coat. Shes as soft as a cotton ball and more like a dog than a cat. They require a bit more attention than a typical house cat but their personalities are amazing.

Never having kids so they are my babies haha

Jowebart 05-13-2016 12:10 PM

I love cats..

What i suggest ..in the beginning to not walk too fast, around it , just until the kitten gets used to you.
Sometimes they are silent , so they kinda scare the crap out of you , try not to scream , because they get scared and hide.. and you need to look around for hours after it ..

I am up to 5 rescues at home right now and I am with a group that traps feral cats, gets them fixed and checked out.

GET THE CAT FIXED!

Good food helps the live longer and may also reduce the dreaded cat puke. I use wellness. Not cheap, but the love it.

Spunky 05-13-2016 02:12 PM

Mine wakes me up every morning at 5:00 am . don't need an alarm clock

Sednub997 05-13-2016 02:57 PM

Would be interesting if both pets start chasing in your living room

pimpmaster9000 05-13-2016 06:32 PM

bigPunk 05-13-2016 11:03 PM

BaldBastard 05-14-2016 12:00 AM

High fives for Devon Rexes! Mines 14 grumpy old man who has something to say about everything.

Warning with cats is.. Dogs have masters, Cats have Staff.

Does not matter what crap you buy your cats, Cardboard box will always be best.

I must of thrown out thousands of dollars of new toys, beds. climbing beds and the likes over the years. My devon will use them for a week.. then ignore. Including a 4.5k cat enclosure with walkways for them.

First rule of cat ownership, recognize cats are assholes. It doesn't matter how cute they start out at, they are assholes and they will do asshole things (yet we still somehow love them).

Second rule of cat ownership is your house is no longer your house. You will be allowed to live there. That's it. You cease being the owner of your own domain, get over it.

Third rule of cat ownership, you WILL buy things from Amazon and often. You think you're just getting yourself things, no. You're actually buying the box for the cat.

Fourth rule of cat ownership, if it fits it sits. This means laptops, keyboards, on top of the newspaper you were reading, etc.

But in all seriousness...make sure they have a scratching post (we have a floor to ceiling they can race on that has a lot of boxes with holes for them to bat at each other from) and toys. My girl cat was returned to the shelter at 4 months because she played with hands too aggressively. Turned out they didn't have any cat toys...when she came out of the crate into our living room, you could see her eyes grow wide from all the cat toys everywhere.

Also, invest in rollers to get hair off your clothes. You'll need it.

Good luck! You'll fall in love, I'm sure. ;-)

wehateporn 05-14-2016 02:36 AM

They live a lot longer and without health problems if you don't vaccinate, many pet owners know this, it's admitted that cat vaccines cause Carcinomas
