John Lennon.

I was a HUGE Beatles fan at the time (still am) and John was my favorite. I wanted to move into New York City to go to all the places he went in hopes of meeting him one day (moved into the city but by then, too late he was gone). I cried for days and even stayed out of school for 2 days I think.

I was devastated. Still am. :(

Also Robin Williams
for me it was shocking that such a great actor who made so many people smile had serious problems

The Young Ones!!! I loved that series.... I think I have converted VHS copies laying around somewhere... if I remember, the quality is not the greatest.

For me... It would be George Carlin. We need him back to call us out on the way we abuse and misuse language. I was fortunate to meet the man twice. Mostly in passing situations but was very friendly to us common folk. :thumbsup

Joachim "Jokke" Nielsen. I had one of his records paused in my cd player as I watched the news. Then they suddenly announced he had died from an overdose at age 36 x|

To be fair the funniest comedians are broken people...

Robin Williams was not depressed. He had a neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimers that was starting to affect his life and work and didn't want to rot into a vegetable.

Yup it's very common... constant need to be "on" and appreciated. Back in my ensemble comedy / stand up days I knew several people who were so broken and so starved for attention, and so competitive to be the funniest, it was tiring to be around them.

When I read the news about Robin I was pretty cut up about it but not surprised.

What's so weird about that? I grew up watching All in the Family and was inspired by the actor (one of many) which led me to also want to be an actor. I even went to his funeral 20 years ago.

Yes, add George Michael to the list indeed.

His incredible talent brought so much happiness through his music to so many people, and yet he died alone, abandoned - another victim of mass popular media homophobia.

JFK, Jr died in 1999. I'm a pilot and I know exactly what killed him, his wife and her sister. It absolutely shocked the hell out of me.
