I'm bored so here's a piece of nearly impossible trivia

Which character in which book said this:

Women! If they didn't screw there'd be a bounty on 'em.

Truly, a wise statement. The book is by a very popular author of thrillers and espionage books, many revolving around aviation. Just for the hell of it, I'll PayPal $5 to the first person to correctly answer the question. Just don't cheat, that takes all the fun out of it.

I am not sure Agatha Christie ever wrote aviation thrillers :)

I'll be more specific: the book is only about 15 years old and at least one of this guy's books was made into a movie starring Danny Glover.

Nope. If someone guesses the author or the book, I'll aknowledge it, but to get your hands on the gigantic $5 jackpot, I need the book and the character in the book.

I said it was nearly impossible :)

ConAir?

Gutterboy 06-13-2003 11:53 PM

LOL, $5 it is. I already know the answer so it doesn't matter that much to me :) I like to answer trivia questions and once in a while I like to ask one.

Ok.. well my last guess is.. it sounds like something one of Clancy's characters might say. Maybe John Kelley/Mr. Clark, or Jack Ryan?

If it was Clark, I'd have to take a shot in the dark at Without Remorse.

BRISK 06-13-2003 11:58 PM

Stephen Coonts

I am a reading machine. I own easily 3,000+ books of which maybe 500-1,000 are actually in my house right now. The book this quote is from I have read three times. I've read all nine books in the Wheel of Time series 3 or more times each, I've read "It" by Stephen King two times, Stranger in a Strange land several times and so on.

I'm so much a reader that I read during commercials on TV, while I am eating, during loading screens on video games and pretyt much any time I have a few seconds.

Then why weren't you playing along on Colins book thread?

And what are you reading now?

Kimmykim 06-14-2003 12:01 AM

Then it has to be Jake Grafton that said it.

No, I said he is a pretty famous author with at least one movie to his credit.

Ah, well its over for me then. He's probably the only espionage/thriller writer I haven't read extensively.

Nope :) If it had been Jake Grafton, this would be "not really all that tough trivia".

Edit: Besides, Jake is too urbane to say something like that.

He's not the best author I've ever read but his characters are good.

Minotaur. Now it should be only a matter of minutes before we get the answer :) I just hope you're not on some Coonts fan site reading down a list of characters. That would dampen the joy.

Sorry. I'm reading Minotaur now (again) which is what gave me the idea to use that quote for a trivia contest.

I'll have a look at that thread.

Wasn't it Toad?

I like Clancy better than Coonts.

Was Toad Tarkington in Minotaur?

Very good KimmyKim and PersianKitty :thumbsup It was Toad Tarkington, expressing some consternation in his dealings with Rita Moravia :)

Hm, you two answered at the same time (3:20). Who wants the $5 :)
