stocktrader23 08-07-2003 07:59 PM

Shreveport, Louisiana. 100k here is upper middle class. Certain areas it's a damn nice home for the money.

You can always get something on the Gold Coast..

Earn US dollars, pay AU prices :)

Peaches 08-07-2003 08:39 PM

Atlanta suburbs - easy!

cash69 08-07-2003 08:41 PM

for a 1 story houses.. you can buy a brand new house for about 100k in arizona..

Sharpie 08-07-2003 08:42 PM

Well, I just sold a Condo in Florida for a little less than that. But, it was a mile from the water..... Been renting it out for 15 years. Sold it to the first people who looked at it.

You can get a house for $100 outside of dallas, nothing great, but a house. I would suggest florida.

At first I thought you were totally joking, but after checking realtor.com I see that you were just exaggerating a little. You can indeed buy a 2/1 or 3/1 1000 square feet max for 100k.

The flipside is you have to live in a shack in fresno ;)

Herb Kornfield 08-07-2003 08:56 PM

I have a 3 bedroom / 2 bath house with a yard on the side, front and back. 2 spaces out back for my trucks in montgomery county PA.

20 minutes outside center city philly / 90 minutes from NYC and 1 hour+ from Atlantic city.

97k... We went FHA. Put down $5,000 and pay $960 a month for 2000 sq ft.

We have had to perform alot of upgrades and work on the place, but, I did a lot myself. I had no idea how to do this when we bought this, I just read some, asked lots of questions to friends and gave it a shot.

Its totally worth it when I can look around and this is MINE.

Oxford, Mississippi home of the University of Mississippi. Decent house for $100k or decent condo for $100k

I belive it...my dad used to live in plano. Quality newer house, good size (2000+ square feet), swimming pool, nice quiet neighborhood and the houses were selling in the 220s.

Obviously a couple steps up from what you are referring to Brad, but the same spread would run 500k-750k in the bay area. Texas is a fine value

DTK 08-07-2003 09:02 PM

Yes Marcus, those are real. Welcome to the Bay Area

Crazy. Only a retard would spend that kind of money for those houses. The same kinds of houses would go for about $80 - 100K around here.

detoxed 08-07-2003 09:11 PM

Im currently renting a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom house (1800 sq ft) for $350 a month. I could buy it for $50k. Its pretty nice, but its in bumfuck, MS

Dude, you want to hear crazy??? At the height of the boom, some couple bought an old 1/1 500ish square footer in san jose for $550k. no shit.

I believe it. I hope it put them into bankruptcy.

crockett 08-07-2003 09:33 PM

FL isn't as cheap as it once was... house prices have been going up fairly quickly here on the east coast... you won't find a condo or townhouse on beach side for under 100k expect 150k for a fixer upper kinda close to the beach... even the inland areas are getting pricey if you want a decent area.

Would be great to hear from the board members who are LV residents
