Do you go to your class reunions?

never been to any of mine, but I got my 20 year reunion coming up soon. Was thinking it might be kinda cool to go back and see what everyone's up to these days. Or are those things boring as hell?

kaylacam 11-24-2003 05:33 PM

I have just missed one last Saturday....

Amputate Your Head 11-24-2003 05:38 PM

what do they do at those things? Just a big dinner or something?

SCJason 11-24-2003 05:38 PM

Went to my 10th............It was kinda cool. Saw a few cool people who I lost touch with. Overall kind of a neat experience. Interesting to find out what road people ended taking in life. Shit like that bro............ So I say go.

Amputate Your Head 11-24-2003 05:43 PM

the school has changed so much since I was there... they got a bunch of new buildings, a skywalk between buildings, and chain link around the whole works now.... nothing at all like when I was there. Would be weird seeing it like that.

JDog 11-24-2003 05:44 PM

hmmm, I do'nt know when my first one is. I'd like to go to a five year reunion, everybody would flip out if they knew what I did now! :1orglaugh

hmmm... was just thinking about if there are some people that might not be among the living anymore. Do they mention them or kind of gloss over anyone that's died?

MrIzzz 11-24-2003 06:34 PM

i'm going to my 10th on friday, i said fuck it i'll go cause i was cool with everybody. but the main reason is that i want to see some of my old fuck girlfriends, i hope they're still hot

Scootermuze 11-24-2003 06:36 PM

I went to a 35 year, "gathering"..
It wasn't an official reunion.. as reunions go... Just one night in honor of our school counselor.. a super super man... but lots of people showed up..

It was really neat seeing all of the old classmates that I hadn't seen in 35 years.. But it kinda messes with the high school memories because with memories you remember them as they were back then.. but after you see them years later, then the memories are kinda different...

But they are well worth going to.. just to see what has come of your classmates..

Spunky 11-24-2003 06:37 PM

Mine was a blast..It was funny how people age.Alot of people were bald :1orglaugh

I went to my 5, which would be different than a 20. But I was living 1000 miles away, so was kind of crazy. I've changed a bit since school. Had one guy that was always a dick to me come up and appologize out of nowhere, then asked for me to give him a job.

Then I ended up leaving with 5 chicks from my class to go out to the local bars. I only stayed maybe an hour and a half or so, but it was a fun time. Got to see a lot of old friends..and drink some. It was a cool regrouping experience...kind of compare and contrast with other people you grew up with.

Just my :2 cents:

Furious_Male 11-24-2003 06:47 PM

Skipped my 10th. Didnt really care what any of my prior classmates were doing. May go to the 20th just to see what all the years have done. More out of curiosity then missing anyone.

Baal 11-24-2003 06:51 PM

My 20 is coming up in a few years... I've been back to my "home town", and have seen many of my classmates... they gave me a tasty burger, and gave me the correct change when I bought gas.

The classmates I won't see are the ones who have relocated to Madrid or New York, and who are now Investment Bankers.

Funny thing is that the folks who ask me if I want fries with my order were the "cool kids" back then. :glugglug

you know, that's kinda scary because it's true... I haven't seen anything like that first hand, but I've talked with a few people that I kept in touch with that have been back and seen things like you're talking about.

One of the "cool kids" from our school that used to give me shit on a daily basis is still in that town, delivering pizza in an old Ford Pinto, at 37 years of age.

Katlicious72 11-24-2003 07:03 PM

I didn't go to my reunion because a year before my 10th year reunion the administrative building with all our addresses burned down. LOL. I hated high school. Carrie was my fave movie. LOL

it was my 10th, so there weren't that many gone, but there was a commerative type book from the event that listed who showed up, what they currently did and where they lived, and info about anyone who died or just couldn't be located

I've got my 20th next year and I suppose there will be a bunch on the dead list this time around

Tala 11-24-2003 07:35 PM

Hmph.

I didn't even get contacted for mine. :glugglug

Gemini 11-24-2003 07:48 PM

My 20th was held the same day as the local street fest. So there were ribs for everyoine & all the beer you could drink. All sorts of sports and things like that. Then they had a dinner and a dance in the evening. But they were going to do an all day affair before someone thought about the festival. Cookout and the works.

It was ok. I only went to see a couple of people and after seeing them it was 'Ok, all done'. lol I got to chuckle at all the cheerleaders with 12 kids in tow. But for the most part everyone that comes from that High School go to upper eshelon jobs. So there was a lot of money walking around there sweating from being over weight office types.

And you guys shouldn't laugh so hard at the ones left behind... But for the grace of G*d, it could be YOU. You don't know if a sick parent or something like that kept them behind. ;-)p

no, I agree... and I wasn't meaning to be laughing at it but rather I am perplexed by it. I guess I didn't think about maybe having a sick parent or something, but barring something like that, I can't imagine what would keep someone in a town that offers no future whatsoever. They can't all have sick parents. I suppose there is some level of attachment to the place you grow up in, but it took me less than five minutes to get over that.

Rochard 11-24-2003 08:14 PM

No. I don't go to class reunions. It's too fucking sad.

I grew up in a super small rual town in New Jersey. Pretty much everyone has the same damn sob story - divorced, single parents, crappy jobs.... Even the bright ones who went onto college still make half of what I do.

So sad.....

The one I went to had a big display with pictures and information about how they died..
Kind of a memorial thing.. Pretty nice to have it out amongst the crowd and not off in a corner somewhere..

And one who was there was a very god friend that I grew up with.. and was in the process of designing a site for his photography business...

He went to the Dr. because he felt tired all the time... Got on the treadmill.. and died instantly of a massive heart attack...

Ya just never know...

Gemini 11-24-2003 08:31 PM

Yeah local attachment or they just don't want to leave what they know. :) You know people are notional and some just don't need or want something 'more'. I met some of the hubbies family that live in the absoLUTE middle of nowhere in Indiana... they will be there until they die. Drive 90 miles each way to work as well. THAT is attachment!!!

I've been well off more than once and poor as often. I really don't care about the money too much. Food to eat, bills paid and some money to spend is all thats needed. But I'm a city girl. So I have to at least be CLOSE to one. ;-) More than 45 mins away and I started shaking. SHOES!! Gotta get back for SHOES!! Oh yeah, money for SHOES! lmao

(And I'm barefoot as often as not!)

gregtx 11-24-2003 08:41 PM

I still hang with my closest High School and college buddies... but didn't make my 10 year... figure I see the people I give two shits about the rest I could give a rats ass less...

snowpimp 11-24-2003 08:43 PM

I recommend going Amp. I missed my 5th but got to go to my 10th just 2 weeks ago and I had a good time. All the people I care about I still see a few times a year anyway but there were a lot of good kids that I had lost touch with and it was cool to get drunk with them and tell stories. Many of us flew from all over the US and Europe to be there. All the loser jocks were still losers and the hot girls got HOTTER!!

Main reason you should go: it's only your 20th, most people probably still know how to have fun instead of just telling annoying stories about their kids or what meds they're on these days....they're a part of your past and they know things about you that most of your current friends probably don't. You might learn a thing or two about yourself you hadn't realized till someone from your past points it out! Don't worry, it's fun and there's so many people to see, it's easy to escape from the ones you don't want to talk to!

baddog 11-24-2003 09:12 PM

did not like them in high school, doubt I would like them now . . . however I have thought about going to one and bringing a date younger than their daughters

macropoint_ 11-24-2003 09:18 PM

I missed my 10 too.... Those were the fairy days, hope i 'll catch the 20

It's pretty funny IF you liked the people you went to school with. You'll pretty fast see people act exactly as they did in school but the girls who were boring back then is the funny girls now. The rest is fat, disgusting and married with the wrong guy.
