Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal Office. Need Feedback

Hi Everyone. We are thinking of opening an office in either Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal. We live in the Bahamas so I'm hoping to get some feedback from people that have offices in those cities.

The biggest question on my mind is which of those three cities will be the easiest to recruit and hire new talent (talent in this case meaning webmasters).
Have any of you had trouble hiring in these cities?

Any other feedback on your experiences are much appreciated.

psyko514 08-05-2004 07:59 PM

Montreal, hands-down.

LadyMischief 08-05-2004 07:59 PM

Toronto :)

hershie 08-05-2004 08:14 PM

All three cities have a large adult community and a thriving nucleus of tech savvy webmasters too. I imagine by sheer numbers, Toronto will give you the largest pool to draw from, and for salary and cost of living considerations, Montreal will be the most economical in salary terms. If you have to commute back/forth, Vancouver is 4 hours further away from you than Toronto. But Vancouver is the best city hands down for quality of life and was just ranked by Mercer as the $3 city in the world to reside.

I was raised in Montreal, lived 6 years in Toronto and now 7 years in Vancouver, so am familiar with all 3.

i find french women alot more open sexually, so depends what you want to do there.

johnny1 08-05-2004 08:17 PM

Montreal!!
:thumbsup

Easton 08-05-2004 08:19 PM

citywise, montreal is a toilet but i still miss it at times :)

i'd say MTL has a nice choice for whatever adult needs you have, but also consider the french language barrier thing...

Varius 08-05-2004 08:21 PM

Montreal has higher taxes....however I'm sure all other costs are cheaper than both Vancouver and Toronto (rent, salaries, etc...)

BRISK 08-05-2004 08:25 PM

Vancouver

Shap 08-05-2004 08:27 PM

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone :thumbsup

It is much appreciated. The office would simply be a place of business. Wouldn't be any modeling or anything going on there. So for that we should be ok.

Hey Easton where are you living now?

Thanks for the reply hershie. We have our head guy living in Vancouver. Trying to decide whether we open there or open somewhere closer to us where we could fly in and see what's happening (not to mention we've got family both in montreal and toronto).

Theo 08-05-2004 08:28 PM

where do platinumbucks and slickcash are located? There

Steen2 08-05-2004 08:28 PM

I think most would agree Vancouver is the best for life quality, but I really don't know about your needs. I would guess if all you care about is good employees, Toronto may be best due to the large population.

Theo 08-05-2004 08:29 PM

shap, im gonna spam your icq soon to tell me how's life in Bahamas. :)

Sly_RJ 08-05-2004 08:30 PM

There are quite a few other companies already based out of TO. May want to talk to them.

sixxxth_sense 08-05-2004 08:58 PM

T.O.

we be kicking it down here like its 1999

Shap 08-05-2004 08:59 PM

Surprisingly enough high speed internet is about the most reliable thing here. It's better than what we had back in montreal. Always blazing fast.

for something like $34.95 CDN a month, Videotron will give you 4.5 Mbps

EviLGuY 08-05-2004 09:02 PM

They are all fine.. I'd pick Toronto or Vancouver myself..

quiet 08-05-2004 09:06 PM

hey Shap - i've been offline for 3 days, just got your email (and about 1000 others ;). thanks for the interest, but sorry that offer's no longer on the table... :)

regarding the cities - i don't know enough about Toronto to really offer an opinion. i love Montreal (i have an office there) and Vancouver - my two favorite large cities in Canada. either one has ample resources...

Theo 08-05-2004 09:09 PM

Shap 08-05-2004 09:10 PM

Cool Quiet. If ever you are interested in that again drop me a line and maybe we can work something out :thumbsup

Sounds good Shemp :thumbsup

Trixxxia 08-05-2004 10:44 PM

My opinion may be biased ;) but I'd go with Montréal.....
Your operating costs would be much cheaper than in the other two cities. Always an ample amount of computer geeks too :)

Shap 08-06-2004 04:12 PM

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. We've decided to go with Toronto. :thumbsup

Any of you in the Toronto area that are interested in a job. Let me know :Graucho
