Here is the deal the FSC has agreed to

Under the deal, the government will not enforce the new 2257 regulations until the FSC's lawsuit challenging them is resolved.

Thats essentially it, and that is a reasonable deal.

While technically this would only apply to FSC members, realistically it will apply to everyone.

dopeman 06-23-2005 10:57 AM

did they announce this?

mikesouth 06-23-2005 10:58 AM

Please note that this is not final until the judge agrees to it, but he will.

Fletch XXX 06-23-2005 10:58 AM

vote with bullets

Giorgio_Xo 06-23-2005 10:58 AM

So essentially they got the injunction from the DOJ instead of the court? Sounds like the DOJ is dealing from a position of weakness.

SirTreX 06-23-2005 10:58 AM

where is the official statement?

Gawdy 06-23-2005 10:59 AM

where did you get that from? Linkage?

pornguy 06-23-2005 11:00 AM

mikesouth 06-23-2005 11:00 AM

well if that's the deal, that still means people need to be compliant as of Midnight this morning. if it goes to court and FSC loses it's suit, they can go after anyone who wasn't compliant on June 23rd.

boneprone 06-23-2005 11:04 AM

So its official now..

Good news for now.. Real good news.

But I seriously wonder where we stand here in the long run after this battle.

FilthyRob 06-23-2005 11:06 AM

Just to support the cause, we should all be members of the FSC. Not that we would be blanketed under them, but because it's right to support the people fighting our battle.

Mutt 06-23-2005 11:07 AM

Mike is smart and very well connected and informed.

Because if it was an agreement approved by the court, and the DOJ later brings in evidence aquired before the expiration of the agreement, they'd get a boot on the ass from the judge maybe?

I dont know, I'm asking.

I dont know, I'm asking.

the regulations went into effect at midnight this morning.

the fsc filed a lawsuit saying they are bullshit

apparently the DOJ agreed to not enforce the regulations until the lawsuit is dealt with in court

now, if the FSC coalition loses the suit - the regulations stand as of June 23rd 2005.

anyone who is not compliant TODAY and gambling on the result of the lawsuit has huge balls.

baddog 06-23-2005 11:35 AM

Sounds good, but I predict this will only result in people putting off what should already be done, so that in the event the FSC fails in its lawsuit people will be wailing once again that they did not have enough time to become compliant.

Lensman 06-23-2005 11:40 AM

<<<<----- Told you so.

TheGoldenChild 06-23-2005 11:43 AM

there will be a lot of legal posturing and this can be tied up for a while I suspect-

I also don't think it'll be retroactive and that the DOJ is going to go after people that weren't compliant by th 6/23/ date-

That's just paranoia

i think it's ok to be paranoid when it comes to this regime...

mikesouth 06-23-2005 11:45 AM

truth is compliance goes back to 1995 anyway

mikesouth 06-23-2005 11:45 AM

at least the record keeping aspects do.....

Yeah I dont think so either..

But the fact that they CAN if they want to should be enough for alarm.

Even Paranoia. Damn...

This is still good news nevertheless..

It's not even being paranoid dopeman - you only have to take a look at their rap sheet to know you just can't trust em! :-)

Alex 06-23-2005 11:51 AM

Now this "grace" time that we may call it.

Has it already been aggreed on by both sides, or is that still not finial.
