Mainly like tons of other articles, they basically say that its just more expensive than you think.

it's all marketing. get the 299 system, you will, in the end end up paying what everone else is. 399. just to get it to play games.

it's also got the same old DVD format.

Remember ths PS2 launch? yeah, it was a 300$ dvd player, when dvd players cost 200 bucks. (shortly after, it was a 200$ dvd player + video game system, really shortly, few months as i recall)

The xbox 360? well its got a hard drive-less unit, a hard drive unit, and apparently a hd-dvd unit later on. gay.

Ps3? blue-ray drive on launch. $299.

Look at the dreamcast, and the xbox360. they are similar, ive seen articles of that failed system and such, compaired to xbox360.

on that note, how many back games on the xbox would i want to play?

halo? a mediocre 3d shooter with a GAMEPAD? or Fable? A short but fun rpg? Their online is tops, ill admit, but their games suck ass.

I'll hold my check for a ps3, and FF12/13, MGS4, GTA4, etc. etc. etc. etc.

If I was a parent, and oddly didn't own a PS2, I would for sure buy one for christmas.

what's better? a 500$ xbox 360, with 1 so-so game?

or a ps2 and a dozen award winning best sellers? sure super snarf man looks graphically good on x360, but man gameplay is gay.

I'd much rather have a GOOD game on the PS2 than a mediocre one on the xbox 360.

not to discount xbox360 will get a good game, eventually. but it looks stupid to me to buy it outright, with 0 good games. Comon, the PS2 has a giant collection of games which are fun as hell. the xbox has very little, and no japanese support.

everyone I know who likes the xbox plays sports games, and isn't much of a gamer. point proven to me.

based on 20 years of studying on systems, marketing, and an avid gamer, who knows people in the industry, Microsoft will have to work hard to get me to buy their system.

Their launch games all look like nothing I want to play. not a good selling point.

Not like im a sellout for sony, if the ps3 sucks and has crappy titles, i wouldn't buy it either, but still. With their japanese backing, and Rockstar, etc etc, im sure they will have a good launch, if they do so in spring next year, if they bypass the heating problem they encountered so far.

I see microsoft launching another dreamcast, and I see sony doing the exact same thing yet again which made the ps2 such a success.

Xbox people don't like to admit they outsell the gamecube be very little, and in the negatives in Japan by a huge margin.

It will be far from another dreamcast as sega was in financial trouble and M$ is not. It's going to be a great system as will the PS3 and the N. Revolution will be uniqe as well. It's about the games and they will all have thier highpoints.

I have seen m$ pad japanese game companies, as well as setup a xbox360 lounge in japan. curious, but as it stands now, i expect it to end up being like the xbox again.

Truthfully, i hope it rocks so sony has to really fight them. competition = better products/games for us.

I am just about the games i am glad to see that we see eye to eye that competition is good. PS3 looks great but sony has troubles living up to thier specs usually but they are marketing gods

My philosophy is that the Xbox 360 will be the TOP system for at least 5 months, so if that's the case, I'm gonna buy it because I'm a gamer :)

As far as the PS2 beating the Xbox, I agree that the PS2 does have a lot of great games compared to the library of Xbox original games, HOWEVER when it comes to graphics, the Xbox is better.

Until we get it in our hands we can't really form a valid opinion. But sony seems to have a magic power to make everybody think that everything that they do is the best and that is more than half the battle there.

To be honest, I haven't even really bothered with the Halo games, I own them, but when it comes to first person shooters, I stick with the PC because I HATE using an analog stick to aim.

Anyone know where their manufacturing facilities are? If not China, why don't they make it there so the price can be lower (of course, chips are made elsewhere but maybe Chinese components/labor for the rest of the box would lower the price)?

their marketing team is tops. anyone remember how the 'middle east' was the cause of the shortage of ps2s? they were using them for missles, they were so 'powerful' in processing graphics.

On that note, ps2 outsells everything out now by a large margin, and I think they have some great titles out.

A big misquote was the PS2 was sold at a loss. Perhaps in the first months, but from all i've read, it wasn't. xbox 360 i've read is being sold at -100$ a unit.

That's a great philosophy. I've got my Xbox 360s coming, but I'm also gonna order a PS3 when it comes out.

For all of the people that complain about the prices of these systems, I look at it this way. If you drop $400 on a system that's gonna be around for 3-4 years, isn't that worth it ? I can buy a $400 video card to put in my computer and it'll be outdated before then.

I have the older xbox, and I like that games that it has. They are not that easy to find around here. But I like them none the less.

another good point. ps2 has been around for how many years? console machines are the way to game. not like i dislike using my computer to DM BF2. consoles are still the best bang for the buck. I prefer them.

Thats what I'm gonna have to do, just as I do with games. My son loves playstation and prefers it to Xbox which I love, so when new games come out I have to but 2 one for Xbox and one for Playstation2. And Im already seeing it with the new machines coming out :thumbsup

um... have you seen what they are going for on ebay? 700$ average. And there is a reason for it. The Target near my house, in a college town is getting 6 total. 6. The GameStop near my house presold 50, guess how many they are getting in.... fucking 4. 4 total. They have created the huge shortage. So if you can find one, buy it and put it on ebay. This is the christmas gift for the year. Tickle Me Elmo of 2005.

It's ALL about the gameplay... PERIOD. Doesn't matter if your passion is Tetris, EQ, Halo, Final Fantasy or Steel Battalion... it boils down to whatever games help you escape reality & enjoy what little free time you have. Just play. :thumbsup

The only thing I hate about the 360 is that my techie's expecting ME to drop $1000 next week for his 360bundle as an early xmas gift. :upsidedow I want to, but I know it'll mean that he won't get any work done. :)

The only thing you said that has any truth at all is the $300 version is a bad deal. You save $70 (you have to spend $30 on a memory card that day) but you will buy 2 or 3 memory cards, you dont have backwards compatibility, and more...
