i think i might be getting into shape

been working out a lot in the last 3 weeks.

51 mins cardo on an elipse machine daily
and about 30 mins on my bowflex weight machine 3 of 4 days on a rotation for different muscles.

amazing how FAST i'm seeing gains in endurance and stength. keeping logs and i'm impressing myself every day.

xclusive 02-08-2006 10:38 PM

Great idea. I have started working out as well and eating better. Being a big guy is not easy as ya get older. I also have a my wife, 3 year old girl, my boy is almost 2 and another will be born in about 7 months. So I think they deserve a healthy Husband and father for many more years to come:)

Working out at home or at a facility?

I've been a member of various gyms in Winnipeg since the late 70's. Every one of them went out of business and I lost the rest of whatever memberships I had at each one, so I'm a little leary about jinxing another gym. :D

I've been exercising at home lately, I'm just under 250 lbs, was in the best shape of my life at 230 so that's my goal to hit by this summer.

MandyBlake 02-08-2006 10:43 PM

awesome! congrats.

abadfish 02-08-2006 10:43 PM

I joined a gym in late November and I am loving it. At first my friend was encouraging me and motivating me to make sure I went everyday... Now that I am seeing results it's me making sure he gets his ass there. I try and run a mile and go through my different resistance workouts each day, alternating muscle groups every day. When the weather is warmer we run outside in the park and that kicks my ass even more.

Last time I checked I had gained a little weight but I can see that it is muscle. Everyone keeps saying it looks like I am getting skinnier.

I weigh about 245 at 6'1 and I'd like to get down to 200 this year. Hopefully I will see some more results before summer rolls around. :)

Hard work will get you there :thumbsup

I was 185 with an inch or so of fat 2 months ago, and am now 165 at 5'10", my goal is to be 185 again with no fat at all by end of June.

fuck the private gyms - join the YMCA dude - cheaper - cuter women and great equipment and they won't go under. they've been around for dozens of years

SleazyDream 02-08-2006 10:54 PM

i'm 280 now and 6'4 - was up to 380lbs 2 years ago

Yes the Y downtown is a great place to work out.
Been going there off and on for years ever since the European health spa closed.

wow. What else did you do? Besides the bowflex and the cardio? How did you change your diet? Changing my eating habits is the hardest part. I like working out and sweating... it feels good. I also go skiing a few times a month which is a great workout.

I like hearing stories like this, very encouraging!

Axeman 02-08-2006 11:03 PM

Good job Scott! Keep that cardio up and keep the diet in check, should be no problem to lose the rest of that.

bhutocracy 02-08-2006 11:03 PM

Shit, congrats dude, I noticed in one of the more recent pics here you looked like you'd shed a fair bit. Im 36 pounds down since the start of November and aiming for 45ish. Was shopping around for home gym equipment today too. Good to see a bunch of people doing whats right for their health.

toddler 02-08-2006 11:08 PM

Aw, damnit. I was gonna be mean, but it sounds like you're actually making a good effort and seeing progress. Good job man. Stick with it.

BTW, what level are you doing on the elipitcals(sp?). I've been alternating between 10-15 for 30m at a time, and its kicking my wee little ass.

If you can hack it, I also highly recommend swimming some laps. Its super tough to get started if you've not done it in a while, but its a full body workout.

i do 51 mins - at 150+ strides a min - try to never do less than than 151 strides a min. machine says that time and resistance (7) is burning 800+ calories.

I use a precor elipse machine - it's worth about $5K with tax

it's a pretty fast pace - i'm drenched in sweat when i'm done.

Sounds like you've got a good system going. Still, try the swimming at some point, you may enjoy it.

/off to the gym myself...

If I do decide to join another gym it would be either the Y or one of the local pools that have weight rooms. I hear many of them have been upgrading lately.

Going to fire up my mountain bike as soon as the snow clears too, did not do enough riding last summer.

reed_4 02-08-2006 11:23 PM

that's good to hear SleazyDream, just be focus and never break a good habit. :)

justfreemovies 02-08-2006 11:26 PM

just keep with it ive been doing it for months
weight training kicks ass if you keep yourself with it
ive made alot of progress so far too
ive always played with it for a couple of weeks and noticed no gains
but its just cause i didnt stick with it long enough
now im not gonna stop till i look like a body builder :)

JuiceMonkey 02-08-2006 11:41 PM

soon you will outgrow the bowflex.. honestly it's not all it's cracked up to be, once you lose another 30-40lbs you will want to go into "hardcore" mode, and get a gym pass... bowflex is not designed for bulking up.

that's an awesome story though keep it up!

FreeHugeMovies 02-08-2006 11:48 PM

Find your local mens rugby team and join them in a practice and games.

i know that - but it's better than doing nothing and it feels great

i've already mazed the bench at 200+ and ordered another 100 lbs in rods to add on

adultchica 02-08-2006 11:54 PM

Damn keep before and after pics. I am curious to see what you look like when you are done. Then maybe you will be a hot webmaster at the shows

lazycash 02-09-2006 12:14 AM

Keep it up and NoCarrier won't have anything to photoshop soon.

Martin 02-09-2006 01:25 AM

You were looking pretty good there at Christmas dude. Keep up they good work.

reynold 02-09-2006 04:36 AM

who 02-09-2006 04:37 AM
