HOLY FUCK! I just got my hospital bill!!

I'm in there a total of 4 days, saw the doctor for a total of MAYBE 30 minutes, and my bill is fucking $14,804.20. WHAT THE FUCK! Next time, even if I'm dying, I'll sweat it out at home. Christ.

Ramos 03-09-2006 12:52 PM

I hope the surgery was successful

thaifan99 03-09-2006 12:52 PM

shit! did you have a body transplant? what did u have done?

Fred Quimby 03-09-2006 12:53 PM

If you were an illegal immigrant,,,you would owe nothing and have gotten the same service.

TDF 03-09-2006 12:54 PM

join the club man..I hope u didnt get any morphine..the hospital charges 2 legs for that shit

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 12:55 PM

Surgery? No surgery. I should have gotten that while I was there though haha for that price. I had a bad upper resp infection/viral infection that kept me on a 103 fever for 3 days. Got some fluids and meds via I.V. and that's it. The hospital was so over-packed, I was in the ER for 2 days before I got into a room in the literal basement of the hospital that was years old and not maintained. They even told me this, because they were so packed they had to open the floor/wing up just for "overflow". The treatment while I was there was horrible to boot. I had no pressure on my I.V. so blood starting flowing out of my hand into the I.V. upwards. The damned nurse just told me to leave it be it would go back to normal soon, which it didn't. I had to tell the NURSE how to connect/disconnect my I.V. because she was pulling so hard at the tubes she put a nice kink in it. Un-fucking-real.

Phoenix 03-09-2006 12:57 PM

wow...total ripoff....society going downhill fast

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 12:58 PM

TDF,

LOL, I actually requested it but for some reason or another my gf said they never got around to giving it to me. I'm going to visit the hosp later and request an itemized bill. Check this snippet out from an article:

"Like the charge for newborn blood tests and a crib mobile. That stopped me in my tracks," recalls Johnson. "As far as I know, my husband never had a baby."

Unreal what they do. Best and worst business man, I swear.

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 12:59 PM

Phoenix,

Yeah man, that's too true. Doesn't Canada give you free health care but in return rip you a new asshole with tax?

Hunter_ST 03-09-2006 12:59 PM

A relative of mine was just in the hospital after nearly dying from a brain aneurism.

Total bill: $250,000.

Insurance covers it, though. Can't say enough about having medical insurance... you never know when shit will hit.

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 12:59 PM

Fred,

That's what I should have done, gone in there mumbling some BS and pointing to my head and the thermometer. Shit.

Relish XXX 03-09-2006 01:00 PM

I can believe that you have to pay for health care.

Have a guess what it costs in the UK for hospital treatment? Sweet FUCK ALL.

Hope you are feeling better though. Next time jump on a plane to the UK and fall ill here. We will treat you for free. Loads of people do it.

Jensen 03-09-2006 01:00 PM

thank god we don't have to worry about bills like that up here..

I agree.Wait until you get a seperate bill from the doctor himself then you will really see why medical billers make so much coin.Morphine made me feel like suckling the warm teet of a mothers milk. I dont think I could have survived sitting in the hospital without it.

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 01:01 PM

Hunter,

Jesus man. I'm glad they're doing OK now? (I hope?). My grandmother underwent surgery for the exact same thing about 8 years ago. Knock on wood, she's doing better now, but strange pains and so forth remain all over her body. She had a week to live, the doctor had found it just in time after she had been complaining for about a year or MORE about terrible headaches and so forth.

Basic_man 03-09-2006 01:01 PM

14k$ and no surgery? What the fuck!

God I'm glad to live in Quebec, medical help cost nothing here, not a penny!

DutchTeenCash 03-09-2006 01:01 PM

Not to piss you off, but isnt there an insurance thatll cover that? I know its not common to have health care insured in the US and I know shit bout how it works, but I do know this would be covered by my insurance here.

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 01:02 PM

Relish,

Yeah despite some horrible coughing here and there still and feeling nauseaus. Thanks!

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 01:03 PM

thinkx,

You can apply for something here called "Charity Care" if you don't have insurance (which I don't) and you'll be left paying nothing or a percentage IF they approve you. Heh.

cranki 03-09-2006 01:03 PM

god bless the german security system! Insurance pays it all :D

LiveDose 03-09-2006 01:04 PM

When I was taking care of my Father the largest bill I received in the mail from a hospital at one time was for 373K. It was weird to see a personal bill that large on paper...:Oh crap

Tom_PM 03-09-2006 01:04 PM

Is it itemized?

jjjay 03-09-2006 01:04 PM

I don't understand the american medical system.

those fees sound ridiculous.

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 01:04 PM

You know what rocks, is on the bill they have an area to fill in credit card information. LOL. EFFFFFFFFF THAAAAAAT!

Juicy D. Links 03-09-2006 01:04 PM

doc just charged my insurance 4k for sticking 2 fingers up my ass

Tom_PM 03-09-2006 01:05 PM

Oops sorry, just read you were going back to get itemized.. good call! Watch out for "mucous collection" (means you asked for a tissue)..
Total rip job.

it is all a ripoff

when do the people get to take back the power?

Juicy D. Links 03-09-2006 01:06 PM

I am in wrong biz , i need to open up a Hospital

justsexxx 03-09-2006 01:06 PM

Isn't that covered by your insurance?

jjjay 03-09-2006 01:07 PM

I read that the medical/health industry is 20% of US GDP. That industry pretty much runs the show...

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 01:07 PM

Tom,

When I visit (this way they cannot remove shit), I will request it. Believe me I will. I'll post some of the funnier charges perhaps. :)

LiveDose,

I STILL am getting bills about 10X the amount of mine for my father who passed of cancer 2 years ago. Let him rest in peace. I'd say a grand total hovering over 800K++++.

Violetta 03-09-2006 01:08 PM

move to norway and get it for free!

what would insurance cost per month to cover that in the US?

Not everyone has insurance, I guess some people chose not to. Its around $500/month for health insurance, but damn worth it. I recently had spine surgery Im sure the bill will be in the 6 digits. :2 cents:

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 01:11 PM

justsexxx,

Sure...if I had any. :)

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 01:13 PM

thinkx,

Maybe as deniska posted $500/mo or so, some places $250 I've seen. I'm never one to go to a hospital or doctor, and haven't in a couple of years or so, so I never justify the cost. :) Maybe a mistake on my part, and I'll be looking into plans shortly perhaps. :)

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 01:13 PM

deniska,

Ouch! Hope you're recovering well. My mom had about 4 spinal surgeries. One of which they fused computer chips to her spine, which later had to be removed due to sorts of malfunctions/issues. She went through holy hell, was in the hospital for 34 days. She's still in incredible pain daily.

There was a story on 60 minutes this week how hospitals charge people 4x the amount for same procedures without insurance than they charge people with insurance.

Here is a link to the story: Hospitals: Is the Price Right?

jerzeemedia 03-09-2006 01:15 PM

Thanks polster, that's sickening.
