Pushups

So how many can you do?

Do you do them with 2 hands, on the tips of your toes, or slowly to get max burn.

Do you do them using 1 arm and if so how many can you do.

My cousin used to so them and clap once behind his head in between each pushup and he could clap twice infront.

Can anyone do them on 1 finger or using a finger and thumb on each hand?

And finally can anyone do them on their liitle finger like Bruce?

Before anyone says it douing themm duing sex doesn't count and you should not be counting then anyway! :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

i do 100 a day in sets of 25 and use two arms with one foot resting on the back of one my ankles to put more weight into the push up.

Nice technique.

I am sure you are noticing the benefits. :thumbsup

I can do fingertips, but only 4 (not 1 or 2 :(). I can do double claps for a couple or about 15 with single claps.

I've never tried doing a clap behind my head, and I'm sick at the moment so I dont think I'll try :).

You are an Aussie allrounder. Well done. :thumbsup

LOL uproared, you are right about that. :)

I can do a couple of hundred two handed pushups, in 4 sets of 50.

Approx 50 one armed pushups.

20 Using a thumb and index finger on each hand.

1 pushup using a thumb and index finger on one hand. (I can't manage this all the time though)

My goal is to be able to do 10 using only my pinky finger just like the master. :thumbsup

madawgz 08-20-2006 11:21 AM

i do about 30 then collapse :1orglaugh

VicD 08-20-2006 11:24 AM

I can do it with 1 arm if necessary... :)

You sound like you must be ripped, what are your gym stats?

My bench is about 85kg and shoulders dumbell presses around 32.5kg. I've stale mated on this and I doubt I'll be able to get a lot stronger without putting on weight first (I'm 75kg)...but I STRUGGLE to put on weight.

How about cardio? I've slacked on that for the last couple of years...
I just blew 3k on a racing bike though, so I'm looking forward to getting back into cycling.

I have done about 27 years combined Martial Arts (Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Wing Chun, Karate, Judo and some Jeet Kune Do) and Boxing training.

Even though I am not currently training in any of these disciplines in a formal sense, I have held onto the greatest thing that I ever learned from Bruce Lee: "The most powerful weapon in the world is a focussed mind." and Have no limitation as limitation."

My fingers cane after I do one thumb 1 index finger pushuos...yet the satisfaction is food for the mind and I always think of Bruce saying Argue for your limitation and it's yours."

A couple of my mates blew out when they saw me first do it and commented that they could never do that. I said don't try, do it with no doubt! 3 weeks later Kitty and I were at the markets in Hobart and they came up to me and said Dakota watch this and did exactly what they doubted they would ever do. That was a buzz. :thumbsup

I am around 90kg and am fortunate that I have never had any excess fat. I am big boned and a fast gainer with no visible fat.

I can bench twice my weight and triple on excercises like pec decks (probably my best muscle group).

I spent around $2k on an Orbea (Spanish) mountain bike recently and intend to stop driving my car whenever possible and use the bike for fast cardio sprints and long endurance runs.

I skated 200kms in 12 hours (Launceston to Hobart) so I could raise funds to travel to the National Rollerskating Championships. I love to push myself and compared to many.... I haven't really started.

If we doubted ourself less we would all be capable of so much more on every level.

Keep up the good work and your bike sounds like a great investment.

One final thing that just came to me. Mike Nemitz was interviewed by Muscle & Fitness Magazine 10 or so years ago (He had the largest biceps in the world or close to it) and they asked him: "Mike, how many biceps curls do you do?"

He repied: "I don't count....why limit myself!"

born4porn 08-20-2006 12:00 PM

I will do it 1 day soon fire'...I promise! :winkwink:

Young 08-20-2006 02:47 PM

I can max out at 310 on the chest press but can only do about 30 pushups before im fed up and exhausted. no i'm not overweight. i'm 189lbs 6'1"

Pushups don't do much for size...actually they don't do much for anything besides a quick pump and a little endurance. Sure you'll see a slight difference after awhile if you've never ever ever ever done a chest press.

Phoenix 08-20-2006 02:53 PM

reading this thread makes me realise i need to get back into the gym

Morning Aussies:)

actually they are good for the cardiovascular system and build/maintain strength in the chest/shoulders.

of course they wont help you win Mr Olympia but they are a valuable part of any exercise routine.

qwe 08-20-2006 02:58 PM

pushups are uselss, unless you do them after heavy chest workout to kill muscles to the end

JD 08-20-2006 02:58 PM

i can see it now.....someone will try the clap behind the head thing and end up busting their face on the floor LMAO helloooooooo broken nose

Thomas1007 08-20-2006 03:00 PM

I do 50 pushups daily. ( I dont do more )
one arms im sure I can do 10-15, its all about balance.
leg out for balance and do one more daily than yesterday.
:2 cents: :thumbsup

E$_manager 08-20-2006 03:14 PM

I don't do any. MAy be i could make 2 or 3, but what for?

StickyGreen 08-20-2006 03:30 PM

i try to do push-ups and crunches every day. i could probably do 100 push-ups straight if i haven't already done any for the day...

u-Bob 08-20-2006 05:22 PM

I do a 100 (2x50) every day (on my fists). Been doing that for about 7 years now.

Any exercise is always better than no exercise. Thus pushups are not useless at all.

People who sit on their ass and do nothing except reach for the chip bowl are useless.

have a record in 150 in 1 go. but now days im happy if I do 40

Kristian 08-20-2006 05:44 PM

Between 200 and 500 per day, pretty much every day since I was 19. I'm boring though. Straight-forward flat palms and back, up, hold, down, repeat. Do same with situps, though recentlyt i've doubled my output because Mrs Kristian recently bought me this situp doodad which makes it pretty easy. Went to military school/college and old habits die hard.

edit : forgot ... sets of 50.

s9ann0 08-20-2006 06:01 PM

I dunno sometimes if I am travelling and I wanna do some workout I will do some incline pushups about 30 a set so I could probly do like 40-50
I fucking don't like them though really a bench and some weights is a great idea

J. Falcon 08-20-2006 06:01 PM

I do 30 every morning.

born4porn 08-20-2006 07:54 PM

I just did 150 and I feel so pumped but I did have strong motivation! :1orglaugh

Well said CD' :thumbsup

Push-ups if done correctly (like anything - even sex LOL) can be very effective conditioning for the body. :thumbsup

I have many different techniques and my fingers have gained so much strength from the 1 thumb-1 finger pushups I have been doing for a few years.

It's all in the way you use it...very cool song that one too! :winkwink:

Pornwolf 08-20-2006 08:36 PM

I can do around 100 straight. I can also do around 60 dips and countless situps but I can't do more than 20 chinups at a time. I suck at chins.

KMR Stitch 08-20-2006 08:49 PM

I do them on a tile floor on my first 2 knuckles on each hand I do 10 at a time and every time I punch my knuckles into each other in mid air and land on the first 2 knuckles.

i understood nothing :(

Libertine 08-20-2006 09:45 PM

When I was about 16, I could do over 500 straight. Then again, in those days, I did over 500 total every day, as well as on average 2000 sit-ups and 240 chin-ups a day. That was all I did though - I started working out vigorously when I was 12 years old, without knowing anything whatsoever about proper training schedules, the importance of rest, etc. Kept it up for 5 years, then quit entirely.

Now, I think I could barely reach 100 - scrap that, just tried, reached 67. I need to start working out again :Oh crap

kacy 08-20-2006 09:46 PM

45 - 3 sets of 15. Regular guys push ups. I sometimes do those on a ball which makes it alot harder and a better core workout because you have keep the ball straight.

You guys doing these like 100 plus are CRAAAZZZYYY, but cool LOL :)

Vitasoy 08-20-2006 09:54 PM

I can do like 100 no problem :)
