Someone says to you: "You can't be successful without a college degree."
What do you say to them?
|
Gfy! .....

Lick my balls.
And then ask them for a big mac, and large fries... |

"Have fun with your 30k a year job & paying back student loans with it"

I would say "can't" is not proper English so try again.

Looking back, college was a fun time but the skills you need to be sucessful can definately not be learned there.
|
Isn't it strange that the most essential things everyone should learn in life are not taught in schools/university?
- How to get/keep a partner - How to be successful/make mad cash College is for the masses and what us super ballers ultimately need to make even more money. So I for one support tertiary education. |
hahaha you dont really need it...
|
The greatest educator is life itself.
A college degree sure helps and in this day and age, a necessity just incase you don't become a porn guru. Lyn |
College degree is not a necessity
|
have to laugh at a friend of mine , or atleast he was a friends a few years ago
he went off to uni, stufying marine biology , used to come back to visit when he had time , rubbing it into us how he's a uni boy now , the money he will be making when he graduates , compared to us shit kickers the years passed he got his degree in marine biology, had a huge ass debt hanging over his , and got a job as a piza driver |
look at the stats - sure there ARE uneducated people who make large cash - but they are the EXCEPTION - NOT the rule. Most uneducated people who make large cash will tell you this as well and wish they had more education.
if you believe in numbers - you WILL make more money with a college degree - the more education you have the more money you will make. - assuming you eventually APPLY it somehow those ARE the facts |

Read and learn as much as you can on your own time about the industry you want to work in. It will save you time, money and your knowledge will be more up to date.

Further education is great for people that can't comprehend a world without "normal" structure. They need the classroom, the lectures, the text books. I feel education is fine the way it is to give a majority of population a decent education. It's ok, but not great. Somewhat like public transportation. It gets the job done, but it's not great.
Here is a good read for people against the typical path of school and dead end job. I actually think a combo of self learning and college are probably the best paths to take. I only have high school and have enjoyed my route. |
roflmao !!

I "went" to college to be an accountant ... really, I would never ever want to hire 85% of my classmates. Those with the best grades, often are useless people to work with.
Everybody can learn things by heart and score good, but that doesn't mean you fully understand what stuff means. having a college degree doesn't mean you'll be successful having a college degree just gets through the first round when applying for a job |
most people will need that degree to make some decent money
|
unless you are running your own business most places won't hire you without it. not that anyone with one is any smarter but when interviewing people you have little to go by besides such things.
|
Depends how you determine 'success'.
If it's in they typical monetary sense of the word then sure, a degree helps. Society dictates that, though to be successful you actually have to apply the knowledge. It's the old 80/20 rule - whether you have a degree or not doesn't matter if you're in the 80%... though it can help fool people for a while lol |
Verity raised the point - what is ranked as "success"?
Most of the folks I know who could be regarded as "successful", do have a college education. Some could have the wealth factor attached to rate that success... but others have been more than successful in other fields and don't give a toss about "wealth" - they are on a bigger mission. It's also surprising the numbers of folks who are fairly well-known in their fields of expertise and who are not wealthy, but command respect because of who they are. Suppose success is what you make of your life, how you relate to others and what you may achieve in some form etc - whether there is a college education or not. "Success" usually comes in the form of a marathon, - life never was a sprint :) |
Seems to me most "edumacated" people work for someone else the rest of their lives rather than owning their own company. Maybe I'm wrong?

I remember directly after high school most of my friends went onto college. I had graduated six months prior and was already a US Marine. I visited my friends in college, mostly old girlfriends. I was stunned at what I saw - Thousands of students living the good life while Mommy & Daddy foot the bill. It reminded me of what I pictured life as a hippie to be in the 60's. They never seemed to attend class. At the same time I was dragging a machine gun through the mud supporting myself; I wasn't sure if I was jealous or pissed.
One of them was in school to study Marine Biology and how she was going to be making the big bucks after college. Twenty years later I have to laugh. The girl who went to college for Marine Biology works at a bookstore and STILL doesn't have her driver's license. Another girl I dated works at Disney. All of them have crappy jobs in middle management at companies no one has ever heard of and could care less. I went to college later in life during the computer boom. I went to a full time school, meaning you showed up every day in full dress code. I'm glad I went; I can build a computer from the ground up and trouble shoot anything, which I surely didn't know before I went. But in the real world it's worthless. Back in the day in order to make money you had to go to college. But I think that's changed. Now the real money is in going into business for yourself. |
Depends entirely on their goal. Its hard to be a lawyer, doctor and so on without it.
|
it is usually only people with degrees that are jealous of those that don't, that say that
|
Look at Bill Gates, harvard drop out.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "man, I wish I didn't have a degree!"
I dropped out of college for a variety of reasons. Would love to have a degree in political science or history though, simply out of basic interest. Hopefully some day when I have more free time and my future finances handled I'll be able to start working towards one. Sleazy is pretty much right. People who make "big bucks" without a good education are not the norm, but neither are people who make "big bucks" WITH a good education. If you want to make bank, you need to put forth the time and effort, take advantage of opportunities, sacrifice, and be able to see the big picture. Not counting those "born into money", no successful person has taken the easy route in life. Me? I doubt I'll ever consider myself successful. There's always another level of life I want to hit. |
I say "that's retarded, you're an idiot"
|
I'll say what a stupid fucking statement to make. Depends on the context though honestly. In a real biz environment as an employee, yes.
|
I have a college degree.
Abraham Lincoln didn't. ... Defense rests. |
"go fuck yourself"
