An XMAS present for the GFY Top Sponsors!!! But all should read!

I've been doing some automated looking at some of the contest threads of late, and I see some "most interesting" patterns in the IP's and refcodes in the sigs. And also running searches against the multiple apache web server logs of GFY.

Every time in the past, when I have shut down contest threads that were breaking the rules in just about every single way, there were some sponsors that got REALLY pissed off and complained to those above me. Now, I can understand top sponsors wanting views and mentions. But is it really worth it when the VERY few are leaching thousands out their pockets per month???

I don't want to start killing off contests run by GFY's top sponsors, but I really think it's time to start shit-canning the contest whores, and start publishing exactly just how often they are stealing money from the sponsors from the "legitimate" webmasters here on GFY. And if it comes right down to it, I don't have ANY problem with publicly posting the actual IP's and email addy's of those that are only making any money in adult as post whores.

If you are a GFY top sponsor and running contests, don't hesitate in hitting me up (my contact info is in my sig). I don't have ANY problem in auditing any contest thread for the GFY Top Sponsors, that will weed out those that are cheating, using multiple nicks, using automated (bot) software, not following the rules, or ANY violation of GFY's rules. And I don't have any problem banning the offender's, their IP's, or their domains for life.

looks like woj may be out of here. :D

I think most sponsors see it as a way to buy a sticky thread and they depend on the post whores to keep the thread on the first page.

I've seen a lot of sponsors lose more money in a contest whoring thread than it would cost them to skin the board for a week. You might be shocked to see the actual number of contest whores (those that have NEVER posted outside of a contest thread). :Oh crap

SomeCreep 12-07-2006 12:50 AM

Those contest threads attract a lot of surfers. Like good ole' "firehorse" and "born4porn."

14,000 of their 15,000 postcount are from posting in contest threads.

Other than that, it's pretty obvious the one's winning those contests are people using multiple nicks and bots. They're easy to spot too, because you'll see 3 or 4 nicks all registered on the same day like 1 year ago, using the same exact sig, and never see those nicks in threads other than contests.

BoyAlley 12-07-2006 12:52 AM

I've said it many times before, and I'll say it many times again:

Sponsors need to get more creative with their marketing efforts.

When will we see some fresh new marketing ideas?
Hrmmmmmmmmmmmm?

These rinse and repeat contest threads are ooooooooooold.

What he said.

They might be losing a few bucks to the post whores but they are gaining much more exposure to attract new affilaites.

xclusive 12-07-2006 12:54 AM

Great news, way to much obvious bullshit going on. I only post in the pussycash contests as they have been good to me. I thought I might be getting banned from the contest threads for actually sending them traffic:) The way things were going lol

martinsc 12-07-2006 01:05 AM

great move, TD :thumbsup

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 12-07-2006 01:15 AM

It should only be affiliates that can take part in contests, not surfers or sig whores.

And what a fine looking sig it is.

pocketkangaroo 12-07-2006 01:58 AM

It's a good idea, but I think that you should have to be an active affiliate to be in a contest. I've never participated in one, nor have the urge to, but I don't think it's too much to ask to have the participants be an affiliate of the program and sent one sale in the lifetime of the program.

Better yet, why not just give top sponsors stickies at a better rate instead of having them be forced to run contest threads all month? The sponsor gets the exposure without having to track a contest, the board makes a few more bucks, and the actual adult webmasters on the site don't have to dig through 8 contest threads on the homepage at all times.

Lets face it, contest threads have very few adult webmasters in them these days.

That is probably interesting, but if the need for keeping a thread alive becomes less, then GFY could face fewer page views... Correct me if I am wrong.

Brujah 12-07-2006 03:21 AM

Can't you just shoot them in the head, or stab them in the neck? What's all this IP talk? Just have them executed.

DarkJedi 12-07-2006 03:33 AM

Contests are bullshit anyway. There is no way for you to catch all whores.

Better is to ban the contests and make sticky threads more availiable.

Jace 12-07-2006 03:41 AM

sponsors that do contest should have two types of payouts in their program, sales and contest winnings...when a contest is won on a board it goes into their contest winnings pile in their affiliate account...and until that money is released they must send 3 actual sales to the program

darksoul 12-07-2006 03:41 AM

I'd be surprised if a lot of webmasters even open contest threads anyway.

Jace 12-07-2006 03:44 AM

hey texasdreams, while you are here

did you notice the glitch on the front page? it is basically freezing everything, no threads move and no replies get counted, along with views

DarkJedi 12-07-2006 03:45 AM

oh yeah and sponsors don't give a shit about who wins - bots, surfers or webmasters.

they just want to have the their thread on top for a few weeks.

Machete_ 12-07-2006 03:47 AM

I think you should ban the contests that only involves posting. I liked the Lovedollars contest where you you should place a banner on a page with AlexA rating and would get paid according to the rank.

ha, never saw that one, sounds cool

sacX 12-07-2006 04:06 AM

sponsors who repeatedly run the contests know what's happening imo.

Klen 12-07-2006 04:12 AM

There should be contest which require knowledge, not just blind posting. For example i was notice on one other board there is contest affiliate which will be first with one specific keyword on google will get 150$ into his account and other similar things.

yeah, nothing worse than looking at contest winners accounts and see that they never sent a single click to your program. While at some level you expect it, on another level you wish the people you were sending the prizes to were actual webmasters.
