42" Plasma for $700

I know it's a generic brand, but it's a dam good price!

Sylvania's 6842PF is a 42-inch, widescreen (16:9) gas-plasma display compatible with progressive-scan and high-definition signals up to 1080i.

From amazon

NinjaSteve 12-20-2006 09:57 AM

Shitty ratio for plasma though. 1000:1 Contrast Ratio just like a LCD

Pete-KT 12-20-2006 09:59 AM

Damm thats nice

Boobs 12-20-2006 10:01 AM

they have a vizio 42" plasma for $799 on tigerdirect

I thought lcd was better nowadays?

pornguy 12-20-2006 10:03 AM

its not bad for 700.

But you will see a drop in price of all of them after x-mas. Sony and toshiba I think it was built a plant that can double the production.

sherie 12-20-2006 10:05 AM

Plasma is much better for angle viewing. They both have their pro's and con's. I dig my plasma! I paid a hell of a lot more then $700 tho, like 5x that. Becareful, you do get what you pay for.

Pete-KT 12-20-2006 10:05 AM

I think im gonna order a few

NinjaSteve 12-20-2006 10:06 AM

I know some plasmas get 10,000 contrast.

salesman 12-20-2006 10:27 AM

you get what you pay for, but the prices are going down fast

MikeVega 12-20-2006 10:37 AM

I needed one for the new office and maybe the playroom ... So i just picked up 2 of them .. it would only let me buy one so i had to use two different cards ... I'll let you know how they look when i get them

fallenmuffin 12-20-2006 10:37 AM

Yeah it's a low level brand, but if you're doing tech support aren't you getting calls about problems anyway?

KMR Stitch 12-20-2006 12:51 PM

I picked one up thanks

spideriux 12-20-2006 12:56 PM

if you want a nice plasma tv with the lowest price available right now, like i said check out tigerdirect's vizio 42"

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...4&Sku=V25-4208

HDTV, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, over 231 BILLION colors

nba4life2k 12-20-2006 02:24 PM

its edtv and a shitty brand plus shipping would be horrible. Im not sure if it has free shipping but if its not free your looking at like 100 bucks or more.

wait for the next gen LCDS, I think sharp has them coming out in Feb/March that will fix the motion and banding problems. I think it's the D92 series.

LCD?s with LED backlighting are nearly equivalent imo to plasma in terms of picture quality. They are far more expensive than Plasma though (especially at larger screen sizes) so you do have to take that into account. I'm still happy with my hdtv projection tv, I won't be changing TV's until SED Tv's come out in either late 2k7 or 2k8 (combining quality of a CRT screen with the thin form-factor of LCD screens).

come on man, it will look like shit... I guess if you compare it to a 10 year old analog tv it will be "good", but not compared to some other high-end HD tvs....

DutchTeenCash 12-20-2006 04:01 PM

thats cheap as hell

prolly also hell quality - what if its broke, warranties on these generic items are horrible

biftek 12-20-2006 04:04 PM

i wouldn't even waste my time looking at the page for a yumcha no name plasma
save your cash and buy something a bit more decent

This is a true 1080 res or 720? I cant figure it out by the website, but if it is, for 800 who cares if its a refirb!

venus 12-20-2006 08:04 PM

EDTV sucks big time.... I went with a 61 inch DLP TV with 1080p, better picture then most plasmas. Added a HD DVD player and DVD's are awsome.

madawgz 12-20-2006 08:11 PM

not too bad for 700 :thumbsup

tical 12-20-2006 08:16 PM

it definitely is not bad for 700, whether the picture is awesome or not it would be great to have in a guest bedroom where it doesn't really matter

gonna order one now

DaddyHalbucks 12-20-2006 08:30 PM

Plasmas are cool.

I bought 2 of them ... I need something for the home office ( i really never watch tv in there it will be a space saver) and i bought one for the playroom( I'm sure my 2 year old and 9 year old will love it. My son is getting the 32" that i bought a few months ago in his bedroom and I'm buying a new one for the new master bedroom I'm building upstairs .. I think for the price and free shipping they will workout just fine ..:thumbsup

come on man, obviously if you are comparing a $600 tv to a high end HDTV the latter will look better. Most people who buy something at this price are replacing a analog tv and will find it 100 times better.

Evil Chris 12-20-2006 08:38 PM

Big plasmas and LCDs are coming down in price fast.
