Couple gets probation for "educational" sex

BOSTON (Reuters) - A Rhode Island woman who routinely had sex with her boyfriend in front of her 9-year-old daughter to teach her about sex was sentenced to three years' probation, authorities said Tuesday.

Rebecca Arnold, 37, and David Prata, 33, who received the same sentence this week, told investigators they thought the practice would help the child to learn, prosecutors said.

"Basically, and I'm tempted to say idiotically, they believed it was helpful to the girl, Ms. Arnold's daughter; they believed it was helpful to her development to see them engaging in various sex acts in front of her," said Mike Healey, spokesman for state attorney general Patrick Lynch.

The pair told investigators that they allowed the girl to watch their sexual romps but did not compel her to.

Rhode Island Chief Family Court Judge Jeremiah Jeremiah Jr. allowed the couple from the city of Woonsocket to plead guilty and accept probation, instead of jail time, because he wanted to spare the girl the pain of a trial, local media said.

The girl mentioned the activity to her father while visiting him in Massachusetts and he reported the incident to authorities, Healey said.

Do you know that there are tribes where showing the schildren how sex looks is perfectly normal. Sometimes they gether children from tribe to watch some couples having sex. They say it is good education.

Yep, and because we don't do it this way, we no longer live in shacks in the desert or on trees in the jungle :disgust

I don't know, I'm kind of split on this issue. Realistically, the best way to teach children about the ACT of sex IS to show them sex, they say a picture's worth a thousand words. On the other hand, showing children sexual activity does nothing about education of the RISKS of sexual activity; it just looks like a lot of fun. So, ups and downs to both sides of the coin.

A firend of mine teached her brother to kiss (she was kissing him) He was 10 and she was 18.
Interesting if she would have teached him sex the same way? But she didn't.

That's crazy...it seems their encouraging the kid to have sex at an early age....

This is a tough one to call. On one hand, it is definitely outside the bounds of what most of us would call normal behavior. On the other, they weren't forcing her to watch, or making her participate.

I have to say it isn't something I would suggest people do, but I think the sentence was about right. Pretty much a slap up side the head to make them think about it. It wasn't too long ago that 12 years old was considered wife material, and in some communities in the US it still is. Can you say Mormons?

This of course spirals off into a whole argument about how we as a society send massively mixed signals with programs to teach them not to have sex until they are married, counterpoised against Bratz dolls for little kids that are dressed like street hookers, and fashion styles that are highly sexual. I mean what 13 year old really should be wearing low rise pants with thong underwear showing?

Yes, I've heard of that. Some tribes actually have the father fuck their daughters the night before she has her fist night with her husband to 'show her'.

(oh did I also mentionned that the same tribes rip off these women clitoris in order for them to never experience orgasm?)

wow, that is insane. i had heard of the removal of the clitoris, but never heard of the father taking the daughter's virginity. :(

I remember my mom telling me off for having Barbie and Ken live together without being married. I used to think she was super harsh but these says sometimes I am glad they were more like that and less like the horror stories you hear in articles like this.
