BEN COX has no friends. He is unlikely to make any in the future, or form any romantic relationships. At 18, his teenage life has "all but been destroyed", and his adult life will be no better.

He will never know the satisfaction of a job, and anxiety and depression will be his likely companions for the rest of his life.

With this bleak forecast, the Supreme Court's Justice Carolyn Simpson yesterday found schoolboy bullying was to blame and Mr Cox was entitled to compensation.

In what is believed to be the biggest school bullying damages award in NSW, Mr Cox's legal team estimates the reclusive Hunter Valley teenager will receive about $1 million, giving him an income for life and superannuation.

About $213,000 of the award is for his pain and suffering.

i think that's great - i can't imagine being a kid who was bullied relentlessly - there were always a couple kids who got it bad, most kids suffer some bullying but they have other friends and they can get over it. if more parents were made responsible financially for the actions of their kids you'd see less of this kind of thing.

i'm not a bleeding heart, in most cases getting bullied just makes you stronger but there are cases where the victim has no chance to fight back and the world is against him. hell I remember one kid who not only had all the kids picking on him but some teachers also got into the act. kids are prisoners, it's not like they can pick up and move to another town, go to another school, quit school - they are hostages.

Damn, i guess he got the last laugh...

Based on the story above, I would strongly consider it.

Last laugh? The guy is scarred for life. I doubt it will be easy to act like a normal person again for him, if that's even possible :(

I read about that today and I was really happy to see that he is getting compensation for it.

Bullying is one of the lowest forms a human can inflict on another person, this subject is close to my heart and I wont say much more about it, but I am glad that he took the bastards to court and WON.

I used to get bullied when I moved to the US from the Phillipines. My Mom beat the shit out of me, put me in Judo, then Karate, and the bullying stopped after I slammed one of them on their heads.

i remember some 300lb silverback guerilla black kid jacked me for a half oz of weed back in the beginning of my jr year of highschool. he ran around going off at the mouth for about a week after that. i got so much shit for it. well i caught that fucker in the lunch room eating cheese fries. grabbed a fuckin chair and wacked that fucker right across the mug.

needless to say he found himself eating out of a straw for the next couple months. i saw that fucker 6 months later looked like he lost 100lbs. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

good post. compensation isn't often awarded in Australia for these types of things, but this really was a case of a kid who was stuck, lived in a fairly country area etc. hopefully his million doesn't get swindled by those bullies who are probably now his best friends.

Here here. I was one of the guys in school always sticking up for the underdogs. I fucking hated bullies then and I still do. Good for him I hope the asshole that bullied him becomes a poster child for bullies..opps he already has.:thumbsup :thumbsup

Kids are very mean. But I would teach my son to fight back. I got picked on when I was much younger (2nd grade, new school) and when I took shots at the kid it never happened again.

I was molested by my Vice Principal at High School (I was 15), bashed by another teacher when I was 14, and was bashed and persecuted for not having a Father or a school uniform. A number of my friends received compensation from the State Government (Tasmania) for similar experiences .. I think most of them received around $200k.

It did give me an understanding of human nature (human habit) and led to my love of Martial Arts (28 years study has made me a better human being) and started a spirtitual adventure.
