they make money thru ads...

Nifty Themes 06-14-2007 06:22 AM

They make money off ads, however they probably will never be profitable because as soon as BW gets cheaper the videos will just be better quality, so it's kind of a bad cycle.

We are currently in the second bubble, not sure how much longer it will last. Just look at the amount of VC money being thrown around to completely idiotic ideas.

sirkakashi08 06-14-2007 06:27 AM

yup! i agree, they make money thru numerous ads found on their page.

yys 06-14-2007 08:18 AM

and people said google was nuts and would go broke because they didn't clutter up their pages with ads like yahoo and microsoft. Here we are in '07 and they are the biggest show in town.

Youtube.com has plenty of eyeballs and eyeballs=ad $$$$ . Each year more and more $$$$ is diverted from traditional advertising mediums such as T.V. and print into online advertising. This will only increase with the mass adoption of PVR's which allow you to skip the ads and more people choosing to get their news and entertainment from online sources instead of traditional print.

You think it's bubble 2.0 but alot of these companies making these purchases are well capitalized and are raking in money hand over fist so they won't be going bankrupt any time soon. This isn't the late '90's early '00's where people managed to talk some smart people out of there money with grandiose ideas only to spend said money on nice office furniture and employees that cost more then they brought in.

Face it, all you naysayers are behind the curve on this one.

Klen 06-14-2007 08:20 AM

They dont make money, youtube was on bankrot until one company bought them and later google bought youtube from that company.Read youtube history and you will see.

Brad 06-14-2007 09:32 AM

I saw that with Rogers wireless in Canada you can check out YouTube on your phone, so I am guessing that they must make some money off of that as well. Besides their bandwidth, the cost of running youtube would probably be quite low considering all of the content is user generated. But I'm no expert, that is mostly just a guess. They probably also make money off of selling their email lists when people sign up as well (once again this is purely speculation).

tranza 06-14-2007 09:47 AM

Just like Google.

:)

Matt 26z 06-14-2007 09:58 AM

none - youtube gets revenue from pre-paid video placements on the front page and banners. the rest of the videos are free placements.

jonesonyou 06-14-2007 10:06 AM

google is part of the new world order.

they make money because one of the founders' wives' dad was a billionaire and had lots of connections in the silicon valley VC world. The VC swept in, played both sides of the purchase (google buying youtube) and everyone got rich off of google shareholders.

That's how you really get rich - you turn 'paper' money into real money with the help of uneducated shareholders.

Oh.. you meant a business model. HAHAHAHAAHAHA.. everyone knows you don't need a business model to get rich.
