Elton John: "Shut down the internet!"

Elton John wants the internet shut down for 5 years. He thinks it would be a "good experiment".
What do you say? :1orglaugh

on a sidenote, he'll surely get/already is getting a large amount of press coverage thanks to this...

BlackCrayon 08-03-2007 10:28 AM

What a moron. Yeah, lets just end tens of thousands of jobs to see what kind of art can be created. Big business is killing art/music, not the internet.

cranki 08-03-2007 10:31 AM

I suggest shutting down Elton John. Now THAT would be a great experiment and a service to mankind as well! :thumbsup

StuartD 08-03-2007 10:32 AM

tried that experiment. It's called "30+ years ago".

Drake 08-03-2007 10:33 AM

who 08-03-2007 10:35 AM

D 08-03-2007 10:42 AM

I agree with him in that people, generally, need to be more active.

But I'm guessing this whole thing's just a publicity stunt.

u-Bob 08-03-2007 01:07 PM

what an idiot :(

BobG 08-03-2007 01:11 PM

Who hasn't wanted to throw their computer out the window?

ztik 08-03-2007 01:11 PM

Nismo 08-03-2007 01:14 PM

The internet is just a fad anyways; so are computers.

This whole "internet/computer" thingy will be over in a few years anyway.

I think taking it in the ass to many times has effected his brain cell count.

And before the internet people just sat their fat lazy asses on the couch and watched TV. So does he want to ban that too?

Snake Doctor 08-03-2007 02:09 PM

He must have lost his password the all the ghey pr0n sites and feels there's no longer any need for the internets

Brother Bilo 08-03-2007 02:13 PM

Don't mind him, it's just the gay talking.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 08-03-2007 02:15 PM

I think the line is drawn because T.V. wasn't as interactive or useful - and therefore, not as time-consuming as the internet currently is.

I mean, I know people who spend 100+ hours a week on their computers... I'm sure we all do, if we're not one of those people ourselves.

The scale of lethargy is a lot more pronounced with computers than it ever was with T.V., I think.

There are entire cultures where it's not unheard of for people to spend nearly every waking moment in front of their computer monitor.

I'm fine with it - I mean, everyone's the captain of their own lives - and, hell, we'll figure out a way to turn a buck off of them all, but - on a large scale - there is an issue there, I think. And while "banning the internet," is obviously not the solution.... maybe EJ's just trying to raise awareness, while generating a little publicity for himself?

Sarah_Jayne 08-03-2007 02:42 PM

I say we start by taking down any sites where Elton John albums or show tickets are sold.

Clark Miller 08-03-2007 02:44 PM

Shutdown the Internet... I would guess everything you hear about ol' E.J. is publicity in his book, including this post.

I doubt he actually considered it possible. Of course the idea was sensationalized by whoever printed it.

Love it or hate it, the 'net isn't going away anytime soon!:GFYBand

Flynn 08-03-2007 02:44 PM

Where would Tay Zonday and Chocolate Rain be without the internet??

That's BS before the internet I wasted plenty of time watching TV. Now I rarely watch anything on TV. I watch less TV in a year now than I used to do in a month before the internet.

That's B.S.?

You used to watch 100+ hours of T.V. a week?

Entire cultures watched 100+ hours of T.V. a week?

The internet is not as interactive of as useful as T.V. is?

What about what I said is "B.S."?

And what does how much T.V. you watch now compared to back then have to do with any of this?

:error

Dagwolf 08-03-2007 06:53 PM

Musically I think Elton John is one of the greatest minds of our time. That doesn't make him the world's greatest sociologist...

Because fucktard the time people spend on the internet would have been spent watching TV. So Elton's theory is wrong. figures you agree with a flaming homo

Who in the fuck are you to be an ass to me anyways?

Spunky 08-03-2007 09:25 PM

Kind of a naive comment regardless

SmokeyTheBear 08-03-2007 09:32 PM

it's always funny ( and sad ) when one artist is completely blind to someone else's art.

I wonder why he thinks his art is better than other people's art.

what an ignorant statement.

Dude - get a grip.

I was just asking you to justify your calling what I said B.S...

If that's your idea of "being an ass," I'm not sure how you'd characterize your own behavior... the "B.S." remark aside, your last post was kinda off the hook.

And that leads me to believe that you have issues outside the scope of this conversation working against you, so I'll just leave you to figuring them out... the objective of making my point with you here has lost its luster.
