A design company out there is a PIECE of SHIT..

Rant..

one of you - you know who you are - paid you 100% up front for a job and you fuck around for weeks - not a small job mind you - and not cheap either..

I should call your ass out on the carpet for the shit you say and do every day to delay..

Many design "companies" are shit

FelixFlow 09-26-2007 03:34 PM

call them out :)

sextoyking 09-26-2007 03:39 PM

Daruma,

Sorry your having a bad experience with this company...

At www.webinc.com we almost never ask for any deposits upfront - well except for some dev / programming work but not for designs...

Hope everything works out for you.

Peace

Todd

an XBiz nominee

now they decide to go offline when the heat gets hot

aico 09-26-2007 03:41 PM

100% up front? Most legit design companies only want 50% to start, and 50% on delivery. Some even 33% to start, 33% upon design approval and balance on delivery.

I was being nice - urgent project.. my bad.. never again

CyberHustler 09-26-2007 03:43 PM

Thats why I don't pay upfront... Well except once with MachineGunKelly, but he gave me a hell of a deal and I only gave half upfront. He was on time and the designs were great! You should check him out.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 09-26-2007 03:47 PM

I have a couple guys I am running late with on things it happens sometimes. Independent designers sometimes bite more than they can chew. I know i have done it a few times.

Just hope the design work is good and ya do not get robbed.
Good luck!

ridikuloz 09-26-2007 03:55 PM

expose them!!!

Daruma 09-26-2007 03:57 PM

their fucking loss - I just put another 30+ site job at another place

Papillon 09-26-2007 03:59 PM

tony286 09-26-2007 06:39 PM

Never never pay up front.do a third a third and third or 50-50.

CaptainHowdy 09-26-2007 06:41 PM

Out them...

dark.designs 09-26-2007 06:47 PM

50-50 should have been fair enough.

minusonebit 09-26-2007 06:52 PM

This thread is as useless as a sack of shit and two rusty bent nails without names.

uvort 09-26-2007 06:54 PM

Webinc is by far the best, they offer amazing deals for big packages and if the designs are late you get a discount, next time you are in need, I highly recommend them.

yahoo-xxx-girls.com 09-26-2007 07:13 PM

Design vs. functionality

I think there are some really nicely designed sites linked off of GFY, however I have seen a fair amount of these sites that do not even having the right amount of text for the SEs... now if the SEs are sending in the 20% of sales why then is the functionality only an afterthought? I am not saying SEO is everything, but 20% or more is a fair oversight of potential loss or lack of gain...

With all the nice sites out there by those who take part in the GFY forum(s) why are those who know so much about SEO and the adult business not creating their own websites graphics and using CSS... I'm sure it's not an impossible tasks for you guys...

Sorry if this is not a "rant", however I do wonder about some of the pros...

Later,

.

dark.designs 09-26-2007 07:28 PM

Hope to get some of the projects the"company" didn't finished :thumbsup

Barefootsies 09-26-2007 07:34 PM

I know the feeling.

The designer RHINO (from around the ole GFY) who works for a company on here did not refund the money, nor finish the project I had him working on. At some point he just stopped answering his ICQ and e-mails.

It was really nice of him to reward my generosity of sending him money for my project before he was picked up by a company on here, and needing money for his family to not finish my project, nor refund the money.

I am in the process of suing that mother fucker now, and fucking up his credit.

On the bright side, RENTACODER.COM has worked out nicely for us.

That just sucks.

I try to work with my clients. Example... I was about a week behind on one project. So I added a few extra ad materials to the order. The client was happy, and placed another order 2 weeks later. I always try to make it right with my clients in the long run. Once you're a client, I do my best to keep you as my client.

Yes it does horseman.

He was out of work, and I managed to sign him up to do one site for me that should have been done in a few weeks. But a week later he was picked up by a program on here who kept him busy.

While I fronted him $500 (half down) to get this done because he was in severe need for his family before getting his first pay check, he quickly fell behind.

The whole time he claimed to be working on this site, but not once did I see a single mock up. I just heard all of the designer classics as to how he was up all hours of the night, or he was busting his ass, and I should have it any day, or that there was this ONE sticking point and he would be done.

Then when he blew the deadline by weeks, I told him to refund the money, and I would have a different coder do if for me that could finish this site for me in the timeline needed. After that, he stopped responding to any ICQ or e-mails.

While I was nice at first, he still did not answer. Apparently had no intention of completing the work from the start. So I then contacted my local court, and credit bureau to track down his credit info so that I can put this bill on his credit report, as well as sue him in small claims.

It's not the money. It's the principle.

:disgust

Daruma 09-26-2007 09:07 PM

still working on getting this shit finished - I guess what pisses me off the most is when they where bidding for the business they where around 24/7 - morning noon and night so I took that as a representation of their work ethic..

then the job started and they suddenly became a 9 to 5 - no work on weekends organization.. again - their loss long term.. but still it sucks - cost me a lot of $$ in the short term :disgust

I feel you bawla. I know what you mean.

They are on the board bullshitting, or ICQ 24/7... that is until you need your work done.

Yeah... Chalk it up to experience, at least. Labor up front, sure... payment, never.

Hope you get it all worked out.

Agreed.

I do it now with RENTACODER. But it's held in escrow. If the programmer misses their deadline, or doesn't do their status reports, flakes, doesn't complete the work, pulls a whodini, disappears and returns with the designer classics.. death in family, blown up computer, internet, etc....

You can take them to arbitration and get your money back. They do nto get paid until they complete your work. So if they flake, you just pick one of the others who bid on your project, and your escrow now will apply to them.

It's better than designers, or companys, (like Rhino the designer in my example) disappearing wth $500 down payment, and then not finishing their work. Even when you did them a fucking favor in the first place.

I've found even some of the highly recommended does not always apply. That is unless it's someplace like RENTACODER (there are a few others) where all get rated on their work, paid WHEN COMPLETED, and must do weekly status reports.

JD 09-29-2007 10:11 PM

i only ask for 50% upfront... if it's a LARGE project I ask for payment in full.

deadbabes 09-29-2007 11:13 PM

It's too bad people have to screw others in business like that. It makes it difficult for a design company to ask for anything upfront.

Daruma 09-29-2007 11:15 PM

Update: it still has NOT been fully resolved - so I don't wish to name names until I have a completed product

As to paying 100% upfront - it was not asked for but thought that it would speed along things due to the nature of the project and the time frames that where promised and required.. Again.. this is the last time this will ever happen - my lesson learned...
