The happiest people in the world live in Nigeria - and the least happy, in Romania

A new study of more than 65 countries published in the UK's New Scientist magazine suggests that the happiest people in the world live in Nigeria - and the least happy, in Romania.

People in Latin America, Western Europe and North America are happier than their counterparts in Eastern Europe and Russia.

Nigeria has the highest percentage of happy people followed by Mexico, Venezuela, El Salvador and Puerto Rico, while Russia, Armenia and Romania have the fewest.

Scams of all descriptions represents 40% of the GDP of the entire country according to the OECD.

Yes, 40% of the ENTIRE gross domestic product.

Suckers born every minute.

The "happiness factor" is well-known and nothing new and usually based on life expectancy, economics (without the crap) etc. It's fairly predictable, tho a few surprises among them.

Here's the HPI rank order...

I can't see how "ecological footprint" would factor into one's actual emotional happiness yet they use it as one of their main determining factors.

That index is just a load of hooey made up by some greentards to make people feel bad about being alive. :winkwink:

Notice how the poorest countries seem to rank as "happiest"? You're basically asking a bunch of monkeys if they're happy and taking their ignorant yes as some sort of marker?

Little timmy with an IQ of 17 who drools in the corner all day sure looks happy and if he could speak might even say he was happy, but fuck living like that. :P

Again, sorry to come up with a little bit of geography:

a) Kazahstan is a civilized country

b) no parts of "that movie" were ever shot in Kazahstan but actually in Romania, no nation in the world let anyone shit on their heads

c) "the actor" is a british comedian

d) there are really wild countries such as Kyrgistan or Tajikistan out there but cause there is oil flowing and army has there its interests Kazahstan was the ultimate choice as its absolutely harmless

e) Kazach government officially protested against the movie

Does knowing where Arkansas is make me smart in Europe?

What I'm saying is it's all a matter of perspective.

I've spent more than 3 years living in Costa Rica, and yes the people do seem pretty happy. Once you introduce them to a more Western lifestyle, though, they _NEVER_ seem to want to go back to the way things were.

Another good example is the poor soul that does everything they're told, goes to church, studies hard and gets a good accounting job. He marries some boring Woman, pumps out a couple of children and spends the next 40+ years paying his mortgage, bowling with the guys from work Friday night and going to church Sunday morning. I bet he thinks he has it made, but holy fuck does that ever sound like a nightmare to those who know better.

Ignorance really is bliss. :2 cents:

I 100% agree. But don't think you can't be unhappy and also ignorant. You can hate that your neighbour has a better house / wife / salary, etc, you can be miserable 'cause you can't afford shit and you work all day long or everyone around you looks sad and apathetic.

Only 71% of the time though.

Big_D 11-16-2007 01:54 PM

Well I will agree with that, most of the peeps that I have seen here in Romania are depressed about 90% of the time. The service always sucks wherever you go, the people just don't give a shit about life most of the time. With that being said these are people with jobs they don't want and I can bet they are getting like 450 bucks a month salary.

At the same time I am doing my best makin the ladies happy one, sometimes two, at a time.

Nothing like a little American inspiration...Werd.

Probably the biggest factor in any "happiness" index should be CULTURAL factors as reflected by suicide rates. Some countries are dirt poor but have low suicide rates while a few countries are rich but have high levels of alienation, psychic dissonance, and suicides.
