I am going to build a bar in my place, is anyone interested in pictures as I build it

I am going to build a 8ft bar complete with draft set-up. Would anyone like me to take pics as I build it?

Holly 01-02-2008 09:37 PM

Sure.

And if you bash a finger off with a hammer or cut off part of something with a saw, include those, too.

ztik 01-02-2008 09:41 PM

Yeah, I would be interested. Always wanted to do it but never took the plunge.

:1orglaugh - will do - I have built a few bars and have yet to lose a finger. I have zaped the shit out of myself more than a few times during wiring though.:) This is gonna be a very simple build, just a straight up 8ft bar, clean and simple.

Holly 01-02-2008 09:49 PM

Something is not right here!!!!!!! Am I losing my mind? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I was the first reply to you. About bashing your finger off. I read my post. Then, it was gone.

So I replied again saying the first post was gone. Now my second post is gone and the first one is back.

xNetworx 01-02-2008 09:50 PM

Sure, but it better look sweet

lol - It will be a simple design but the finished product will look nice. I'll post the total time and dollars spent when it's done. I have built many bars in my previous places, from 6ft wet's to 16ft multi-tappers with integrated dj booths.

Rochard 01-02-2008 10:04 PM

I'd be interested. People who can build stuff other than computers always amaze me.

MikeVega 01-02-2008 10:21 PM

I love building things and even considered becoming a carpenter full time just because i love it. then i realized I'd have to deal with home owners and said fuck that. I still do it as a hobby for myself and friends. My 3 year old loves it also. he has his own set of tools and really helps me on my projects. he listens well and remembers how to do things. he even helped me tile my office bathroom this summer and did a good job. I'd love to see your progress ..:)

ProjectNaked 01-03-2008 04:43 PM

Ok, Just unloaded the truck after a home depot shopping spree. Gonna start first thing in the morning. I am naming this build the "poor man's pub" - Total for the bar itself should be around $350-400 and add another $125 for the tap parts I already have, (regulator, tap, tower, tank, etc...) and $250 for an apartment size refridgerator w/ freezer, (will hold 1/4 barrel = 1/2 of standard keg).

Bar chairs not included. :)

ProjectNaked 01-03-2008 04:54 PM

here is the blueprint if you are curious

MikeVega 01-03-2008 06:49 PM

hankphone 01-03-2008 07:18 PM

As a bar owner, this is the best thing you could ever do for yourself, but not for your liver

lol, I'm an electrician and have only zapped myself twice. Turn off the power before you start wiring, lol
At least get yourself some insulated tools and a tester if your going to leave the power on, lol.

I want to build a bar too, but not in this place, just because I doubt I will live here for that long.
What you making the counter top from?
Is the bar floating so it can be removed without much damage to the floor?

You mounting a 50" LCD on the wall too? Just looks wired for it already, not normally plugs that high on the wall.

MikeVega 01-05-2008 05:21 PM

glad to see it started .. nice

Drake 01-05-2008 05:31 PM

It's coming along nicely

that was a screw-up by the builder, the outlets were supposed to be higher for a 32 or 37. Gotta move them to put the wall mirrors up.

ProjectNaked 01-05-2008 06:35 PM

The top is actually going to be flooring laminate. I have used many different things from tile to formica but yet to try laminate. It should work nice since it is cheap and easy to change/replace. The laminate will lay on 3/4" particle board. The bar will be movable although I usually just build a new one when I move or want a different style.

Sosa 01-05-2008 07:13 PM

can't wait to see it. We are actually putting around a 10-12 ft L shaped bar in our basement in the next 6-8 months. Along with a new pooltable etc.

Techie Media 01-05-2008 07:23 PM

Don't get lazy now, continue with the pics boss..:pimp

V_RocKs 01-05-2008 07:53 PM

Inspires me to want to build my own.

Holly 01-05-2008 08:34 PM

Looking good. And you're doing that shit with a hammer, lol. That's hardcore.

I like the beadboard. What will be on the outside?

Dog is very cute, also.

needlive 01-05-2008 09:25 PM

The magic is happening there. Will be cool.

Steve Awesome 01-05-2008 09:47 PM

Very nice. Thanks for following up with pictures of phase 1.

Agent 488 01-05-2008 09:50 PM

I hear ya on the laminate being cheap and easy but i just worry about the first beer that is poured on it and soaks into the seems. I have some of the flooring in my house and the biggest thing they tell you is ti wipe it down and not to mop it with too much water. It maybe just as easy to finish it with a real wood veneer and clear it. then you don't have to worry about it.

Or maybe some granite tiles or something. Laminate is cheap but it also just looks cheap and it damages so damn easy.

I'm not too worried - I put it down in the bathroom of my other house and it has lasted a solid year now with no problems. As for the cracks, I plan to super glue them. I am also a neat freak, so spills and circles are towel wiped constantly. If it doesn't work, it's a $40 lesson, but if it holds I'll be content.
