My experience with WebAir so far.. I signed up more ~35 hours ago
Hey there, I thought of sharing this with you and leaving another post in the void for those who end up searching recommendations for hosting providers.
** this is a TRUE user experience, I'm still living it! ** I'm trying out several different hosting providers - I'm already using godaddy, dreamhost and recently servage. I also wanted to check out Web Air even though I was warned NOT to by a contact who never used them but was afraid of doing so. I paid exactly $117.41 USD for 12 months of Virtual Hosting. Here's the extract off my credit card: 20 Jan 2008 WEBAIR INTERNET DEVELOP $-117.41 Not the cheapest... but oh well, got to try it out. Amazingly the signup process worked like a charm and they successfully without much trouble charged me that exact amount. However, after logging in to my account, here's what I found: Their control panel doesn't carry the greatest looks, but one thing you learn with time is not to trust looks, but rather trust functionality itself. So I go ahead and try to add a domain, but find myself in a situation where I GET programming errors that prevent me from doing so. I swear and click on "LIVE SUPPORT" which is one of their buttons in the CP in order to get someone to fix this, and find a message that says "From 2007 we are not having any more live support, please open a ticket" (I go ahead and swear again, why the crap would they keep the LIVE SUPPORT button?!?!) - so I go ahead and open a ticket. While bored trying to find a solution for the problem myself, I click on several CP options that either provide me with 404 errors, or open an iframe with the entire page (therefore the header of the page is duplicated) with a contact form. I start getting pissed off... it looks like I did indeed make a mistake when signing up here. I wait 24 hours for the ticket to be responded, and the answer to the ticket is "Can you try adding a new domain now?" as in WTF I'm beta-testing their service?!? Indeed I can go ahead and add a domain. But wait, when I click on my "FTP Manager" for creating an account, I get another programming error, "the SSL library could not read 4 bytes from ..." so that's when I realize that webair sucks big time. I file another ticket and wait a couple of hours before I get a response (I pushed for an answer) It's been like 35 hours and I still can't create FTP accounts that work. I'm not getting any e-mails from support today, they may be in a distant timezone. I already sent 2 e-mails to sales requesting a refund, first response was "we appreciate your business. <eom>" 2nd response hasn't arrived. I don't swear at support, I treat them carefully. I paid everything the way I should have, so it's not me, it's them. I had to write this down so I could feel better, but that's probably going to last a few minutes. I'm an unhappy customer. take care, /R |
thats a virtual account for you,
We have a dedicated server and all the button PLUS live support work for us |
Alot of people will jump in this thread saying they love webair.
And I am a webair costumer too, for years now. I have to agree with you that their control panel is absolute shit. I have dedicated. They should get commercial panels installed ASAP. Adding a domain could take hours with all the errors u get. But... you have an account manager and his ICQ# should be listed when you login.. usually if you send them a msg, they will fix problems right away. Email/Ticket is always slower than calling/messaging. |
sorry to hear about your problems... i'm pretty sure they will refund it for you.
i'm a really happy customer with webair. been with them for many years and i think i've had two problems during the time. both times solved within 5mins. i only have dedicated servers with them so i have no idea about virtual. |

I'm not some webair fan boy but I haven't had too many issues once the servers are set up. I think I've used them going on 2 years now and only had one major issue and that was fixed within a reasonable amount of time considering it was 4am in the morning. Was a server stat problem that was crashing the server. |
It was a holiday weekend. Why do virtual customers bitch the most? :1orglaugh
And yes, 6 years with webair and no problems. Go dedicated. :) |
Been with them for over 6 years - ^^ w/ Cherry
never had probs |
Try out oxeo's shared plan for $1 a day. if you have any problems you mentioned above, I'll let you cane me. :)
http://www.oxeo.com/hosting.html ~Ray I'm a customer , not an employee. |
Why does everyone (okay almost everyone) blame the guy? Because he is 'just' virtual? If they can't handle virtual, simply don't offer virtual accounts....
|
no shit, virtual customers should be treated just like a dedicated customer, hell the way most hosting companies over stuff boxes with virtual accounts they probably make more off virtuals then a person that just buys a dedicated
|
I don't take it as someone flaming me because I'm going for virtual, but it's true that nowadays support doesn't exist unless you specifically pay for it, and virtual accounts are all automated.
It's like calling AA.com on the phone and trying to speak to a human being. I had TWO different show-stopper problems with the CP. You are correct in the fact that yesterday was a holiday and I guess I can understand that even though they offer a world-wide service with 99% guaranteed uptime, I should take holidays as poor support and non-service particular days. I just wanted to share my unhappiness with you, I'm glad that you aren't having problems with them through dedicated. It may mean that once these problems are solved I can go ahead and trust the rest. Let's hope for the best :) I'll keep you updated. /R |
I thought webair spent thousands upon thousands on impoving their virtual hosting system?
This is why I didn't buy from webair, Problems like this. |
If I was WebAir I'd throw away that shit panel and get PLESK.

I have contacted Gerard over ICQ who is kindly looking into my problems and willing to take care of them personally.
Btw, I did add my personal account manager to ICQ as soon as I had these problems but he/she was never online. Let's hope it gets fixed soon. Thanks everyone! |
The only GREAT... as in FUCKING AWESOME! Virtual accounts were at Serverprovider and I think they went out of business. Virtual accounts that acted like dedicated accounts. A true 99.9% uptime.
Since then I have found no awesome ones but servage.net was decent. 96% uptime. |
Gerard and his team have fixed my problems with the accounts.
It looks like everything is working normal now, thanks Gerard. /R |

The control panel wonīt win a design award, but it works for me. No problems setting up domains so far. I moved to three new boxes at the end of last month and did not have any problems moving the content. Regarding live support itīs quite expensive for cheap virtual accounts, so maybe itīs a service which you can not expect at pricing structure. Donīt know how other companies handle support, though. Good luck solving your problem! |
What is the reason it wasn't working?
Webair said in another thread they spent all this money to improve their virtual system. I was looking at webair unmetered, but haven't ordered yet because of people posting problems |
I am just amazed to see every webair whore suggesting to switch dedicated ... I wanna ask was you born in webair dedicated? Did you never used virtual hosts at start?
Damn .. what is point in offering virtual host if you cannot offer quality customer service and above all satisfaction customer satisfaction? Or your whole mission is just to push dedicateds down your customer throat somehow after he buys virtual plan? I never used Webair, and probably never would .. just because of spam of webair whores in every other fucking thread, and trying to push newbie bloggers and small customers toward dedicated. To those who always vouch and tell they are fully satisfied with webair .. have you ever tried some other high quality web host? Or webair is your only standard to compare service quality? huh .. get a life spammers. You cannot pose big by saying "go dedicated.." ... everyone knows what he needs and when. :321GFY:321GFY:321GFY |
I tried to use them one time, and had a fucked up adventure as well.
Now I use Splitinfinity and cyberwurx |
jesus, so the solution for everyone is to instantly get dedicated servers now?
if I had a dedicated box at EVERY single host I have an account with I would be broke, nationalnet has my dedicated, places like yellowfiber and the like have my virtuals...and NOT ONCE since I stopped using webair have I had ANY issues with a virtual server, no downtime, no sql issues, etc |

They should go back and remember when they was searching google for "best virtual host" and "virtual host reviews" even worst, when they used to do gallery submission and use FHGs provided by sponsors and have not had host of their own ... :1orglaugh:1orglaugh Retards. |

I had the same exact problems. However when I contacted Gerard he got everything taken care of. :thumbsup

Explain what happened? It seems everytime their is a problem Gerard flies into the thread and fixes it, but why wouldn't this have been done 30+ hours ago?
People wanting some virtual hosting, this doesn't look good at all. An Explaination is what we all want. |

It's amazing that people still use Webair after all the stuff that gets posted on the board about them... I think they should give up the virtual accounts and stick to the dedicated bacause it seems to be the only thing they know how to run, as for the people saying get dedicated I've been running both virtual and dedicated for years now with Phatservers and get great service from both so *some* hosting companies do know how to chew bubble gum and walk a straight line at the same time :1orglaugh:1orglaugh
|
Webair must be a decent hosting company with so many using them and vouching for them.
He had a bad enough experience over a holiday weekend, and instead of knocking him for it this could give Webair a chance to improve their system. Those users who stick around may go dedicated and will base that decision on their virtual host experience. If I were to look at them as a hosting alternative I might have tried their virtual host first to get a feel for things and based my decision on that. |
