Why do guys like fake nails? It's passe and out of style

I noticed a lot of guys like fake nails and thinks it looks good, but if you check out papparazi pics of famous celebs like Jessica Simpson, Jessica Alba, Mischa Barton, Catherine Zeta Jones, Penelope Cruz even Kim Kardashian (who is known for being VERY tacky), you will see NOT ONE OF THEM wear fake nails, it's just not in style. The ONLY celebs who wear fake ones are (Pam Anderson) and maybe the girls from the tv show "The Girls Next Door". No A-list celeb or Hollywood starlet wears them. Not one.

Also, if you leaf through a fashion magazine such as Vogue you will see NO MODELS ever wearing fake nails or french manicures. It is completely out of style and not consider "in".

Do men like it mainly because it is so prevalent in porn? It only looks good in porn, but in real life it's usually the waitress or the cashier that has fake nails or a low end manager, but you will rarely see a female attorney or CEO or someone in a high end position wearing nails. I think fake nails are more a thing (no offense) for the "working class" women or women from lower socio-economic classes.

So then why do so many men insist that wearing fake nails will make a woman look hotter?? My point is that it doesn't, it's not even in style, NONE of the a-list celebs (such as Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, The girls from "The Hills", wear them. They are considered passe. A lot of men or some men have told me it makes a woman "a lot hotter" to have fake nails but the thing is that it's not even in style.

They are fun in porn but that's about it.

It may be in style in certain circles but not in the fashion world and not among famous celebs.

bausch 08-17-2008 07:14 AM

Also, the only other celeb to wear fake one is Victoria Beckham but she can get away with it because she is fabulous like that.

Other than that some of the Z-list celebs (not even d-list but z-list) like Katie Price would but I don't see every of the A-list celebs with prospering careers (like Alba for example) wearing them. Not even Paris Hilton wears them. So why do guys think it's so hot and think that fake nails make a woman hot when it's not even in style?

I think it's because it's more visual and draws more attention and they can imagine the womands hands on their cock, but I just want to let all the guys know that it's not even in style.

What's in style is short but manicured nails painted either a nude neutral color, or light pink or black (this was in like last year, not so much anymore) or white.

guys like fake nails? I've never heard a guy say he likes fake nails. Quite the opposite actually. But ugly chewed up nails are even worse than fake nails.

I think what it is, is that a lot of females with fake nails chew or bite them, and their hands look like shit so they get fake nails. Then it is an improvement for photos.

It takes too long to grow nails out nice, manicure them, etc. Its quick to get fake nails instead. More practical. And yeah, lots of adult models live an "active" lifestyle and usually get fake nails. Having nice, clean natural nails is a sign of not working hard.

Also, don't be fooled thinking those celebrities never have fake nails. Its like the tit jobs, they just have really good fake nails. All cosmetic work is like that, from fake tans to bleached hair. Cheap = ugly, Expensive = believable.. Paris Hilton is a good example of this. She would look like a crack whore if she got her hair, tan, eyes, etc done in the ghetto.

No, I look at papparazi pics every day, stars like Paris and Jessica Alba have VERY SHORT nails, I will post some pics later. They are SHORT and so are Lohans (hers are shot and always painted black). And they cip, A LOT.

I can tell the difference between well done fake nails and no fake nails. The nails these celebs sport are short.

TheDoc 08-17-2008 07:16 AM

Celebs or Models are walking fake everything, from nails to hair, tits, ass, shots to the face, all kinds of fake everything. Just because you don't see white tips or long extensions doesn't mean they didn't have a manicure or expensive fake nails put on.

Think about it, just about every photo and for sure every magazine shot the girls never have a chipped nails or toes. Pure amazing all I can say.

I see Lohan and Britney and Paris a lot with UNPAINTED nails and chipped ALL THE TIME.
I look at papparazi pics everyday that are so high resolution you can see EVERYTHING, every single PORE, I can even see the DIRT under their nails. I have seen Lohan with DIRT under her nails before and once with some food stuck in her teeth (after lunch). The high resolution pics miss NOTHING.

I am going to look for pics to post now!

But they are the ones who dictate FASHION, they create TRENDS. They are considered trendsetters. They are more fashionable than fucken Pam Anderson or Katie Price.

Jessica Alba is a-list.

TheDoc 08-17-2008 07:32 AM

The April and June 2008 cover girl of Vogue has fake nails. The picture of Paris showing her new jeweled phone she has a very fake nails, Lohan has horribly pained nails that look like a 2 year old did it, and at least half the middle finger shots from Britney she has massive long white fake tips on.

That was 5 seconds on google... Celebs and fashion do fake nails.

Which Vogue cover, the U.S cover with Sarah Jessica Parker or UK Vogue?

On the US Vogue it just looks painted black, not fake. Most guys can't tell the difference.
For the Uk one you cant really tell if its real or fake, its not close up enough.

Paris is tacky and has known to wear fake on and off, I will admit that, but MOST of the time she just wears unpainted really short ones.

justinsain 08-17-2008 07:37 AM

Just because it's not " in style " or the " Celebs don't do it " doesn't mean that it doesn't look good

TheDoc 08-17-2008 07:39 AM

You are acting like every girl that has fake nails, always has fake nails. That isn't true for celebs and it isn't true for the average girl either. Some do, but most girls get them when they are needed, other than maybe a general manicure.

So showing some shots without, is kind of a duh, because you can for sure find some shots, in the magazines you suggested and in the celebs you have posted, that have had fake nails. Just because the last few months they haven't in public, doesn't mean they won't ever again.

Celebs follow fashion trends. The fashion finders don't watch Celebs for the next big fashion trend. Celebs are here to help push a trend that has already started some place else.

Yea, one told me they liked fake nails, like tacky long ones. Plus someone on gfy (I forgot who) said that its easy for a girl to go from a 5 or 6 to a 8 or 8 as long as she got fake hair, tan, boobs and nails. I agree with the fake hair, tan and boobs but not nails.

I notice it's usually waitresses or cashiers or people with low end jobs who have fake nails, its like a status symbol for them .

Celebs start trends now, they are the ones who usually push it to regular people. After Lohan or Simpson wears something, the next day a bunch of people will be online ID'ing the exact brand and make of what they wore and throngs of people will buy the exact same thing.

The internet really revolutionized fashion, its ALL celeb driven and regular people can buy exactly the same shit the celebs are wearing. (some of it is actually moderately priced).

Right now acrylics are considered PASSE. If you look at all the celebrity pics that have been taken within the last 6 months you will find that MOST celebs will not have worn fake nails.

At the fashion message boards I frequent all EVERYONE does is watch celebs for the big fashion trends. At one of the BIGGEST fashion forums (which is a known INDUSTRY Board
worldwide) there is a sub section dedicated to celebs and ALL they do is look at what celebs are wearing every day (new pap pics daily). It is DEFINITELY what drives the trends.

The really avant gard crazy fashionable people make up their own shit but the masses do follow celebs. These days celebs influence fashion MORE Than models.

For example, the trendsetter for most teenagers and young women is LC Conrad from
The Hills from MTV. If she wears something, the next day people will murder and kill and pillage to buy that exact item.

from an article online :

"Radar ranks fashion's new power posse, and at the top of the list isn't Vogue's Anna Wintour (#17) or designer Karl Lagerfeld (#2), but The Hills' Lauren Conrad. (Also ahead of Wintour: Tyra Banks, the Olsen twins, Us Weekly's Sasha Charnin Morrison, and, um, Rachel Zoe (she did say that she was more important than Wintour in a NYT Magazines profile in September))."

LC is only a reality tv star, not even an actress but her influence is so profound because people follow what she wears and will buy the same shit, she is considered more influential than the fucken editor of Vogue

thanks, exactly. :1orglaugh

unfortunately, young chicks do follow their fashion, even if it is somewhat trashy.

http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/200...uff400x300.jpg

Paris Hilton is known for her really ugly hands and nails. She really isn't the model of upper class style, regardless of her family name. She is as trashy as Britney Spears.

cherrylula 08-17-2008 07:51 AM

Celebs have always had the most fashion influence, IMO. But true fashionistas will always consider the latest pop-tart trends garbage.

But marketing and pop culture consumerism is interesting stuff.

Black nails! Now I see everyone wearing them now. Black short nails in = fake nails/acrylics out

The celebs are considered fashion influential by how much product they can sell. We might both think a mtv reality star like Lauren Conrad or LC is stupid and lame, but she is SO popular and followed SO MUCH by young people, that she can move A LOT of product, more than any model. She is EXTREMELY popular and ALL the young people follow her on all message boards. I witnessed it first hand.

If she wears something, the next day THOUSANDS of people will buy the same stuff. If a supermodel does, like Giselle, it might will have the same impact, she does not have the same "following" that LC does, young women just idolize her. You completely underestimate the power of certain celebs to move product.

Models do not influence fashion (except for Kate Moss), but that's because she has great style in her daily life. EVERYONE looks at celebs for fashion influence these days, no one cares about models.

TheDoc 08-17-2008 08:02 AM

Hahaha.... Celebs "follow" they are told what to follow, what to create, and based on what they are being paid or if it's nice enough and free, they will put on anything. When it comes to creating cloths, they are following an exact line from another designer and adding in that Hollywood Celeb twist.

The Fashion industry has people on the ground, in the clubs, in NY, London, Paris, all the hell over watching what the real trends/fashion is. Once they find it, spot it, and see that it has potential they move the information up the tree. If you really think these dumb ladies that can't pump gas are starting anything, then you truly are blind.

Black nails was cool when I was in high school, my girlfriend had them from 10th grade until I broke up with her after high school. So, I guess in some way my little Texas town 15 years ago set the trend for today.

They are doing it so you can't see the yellow crusty nails from tobacco.

Trading on Hollywood Magic; Celebrities Push Models Off Women's Magazine Covers

Some excerpts:

" Linda Wells, the editor of Allure, a monthly fashion magazine published by Conde Nast, assembled her staff for a meeting in early December. The magazine, she said, would be changing its direction, placing more emphasis on celebrities.

Then she lowered the boom: ''Nobody cares about models anymore.''"

and

"The shift from supermodel to Hollywood stars and public personalities on magazine covers is the latest sign of Americans' obsession with celebrity. And magazine editors think that preoccupation is the magic bullet that will move their merchandise.

Neil Gabler, a cultural historian who has written widely about the phenomenon of celebrity, said that models had disappeared from the covers of women's magazine because people grew bored with the one-dimensional nature of models, who offer no substance, just beauty. Celebrities, he said, at least offer the illusion of substance.

''When you go to the newsstand now, on magazine after magazine -- whether it's Vogue or Cigar Aficionado -- we see the faces of celebrities looking out at us,'' he said. ''In the eyes of the public, models are unidimensional. They are purely visual, whereas celebrities have these lives we can attach to and they seem more fully dimensional to us.'' "

The celebs dont start the fashions as in the exact product, they are the ones to drive it to the masses and the "common people".

Stars have influence because they have MILLIONS of people who will go out and buy whatever it is that they are wearing, they have the power to move millions of dollars worth of product.

For example, if LC wears a particular shirt, within a few days that shirt will have generated millions of dollars for the maker because so many people will have bought the same thing.

There are people online that have nothing else to do but ID everything celebs are wearing and it sometimes creates a frenzy where everyone will buy the same thing. I am not joking.

TheDoc 08-17-2008 08:24 AM

Nobody ever really cared about the Models, Celebs has always been what people watched. And what you are "proving" is exactly what I said, they are told what to put on, what the trend is, what is hot and what is not. Why? Because someone is going to make millions and they will get a cut.

They aren't going out and saying, wow I like this black sash thing, I will add this to my mix and blindly make some company millions of dollars. It's all business, and it's all told to them.

black short nails have never gone out of style... they are always around. Black nails are rebellious and cool, those girls are just fashion whores wanting to be hollywood bad girls.

I was painting my nails black when I was 9 years old. :1orglaugh

TheDoc 08-17-2008 08:31 AM

Back to Fake Nails... They aren't out of fashion, they just aren't the in thing with people that have enough money to afford a bi-weekly manicure and don't actually do enough to hurt a nail, so they don't get them.

If you went to the South and told a Southern Bell or Black lady that fake white tips aren't in fashion with Hollywood you would probably get laughed at. Even though she probably has the new Paris purse.

Agent 488 08-17-2008 09:54 AM

i've never said - or heard any other man i know say they prefer fake nails - maybe stop hanging around with "working class" men or men from lower socio-economic classes?

cykoe6 08-17-2008 09:58 AM

I don't like fake nails personally but every Russian girl I know has them and thinks they are a must so they are not out of fashion everywhere.

I don't like them. Nor do i like "fake hair". I hate the whole fake looking bleach blonde tanned fake boobs look. Its so 80's.

slapass 08-17-2008 10:23 AM

It makes a girl look more complete. Hair, makeup and nails. I do not like it when a girl is obviously trying and has not done the nails. Why stop there? And long without being too long is feminine. I was not sure I was a fan of long or "fake" nails but I do know I don't like really short nails on a girl.

Trixie 08-17-2008 10:33 AM

I hate fake nails too and how ubiquitous they are in porn (and I've *never* had fake nails), but did any guy ever tell you he decides what porn to buy based on what current fashion trends are? Anyway, those are here today, gone tomorrow . . . what lasts are fetishes built on familiarity and memories of chicks who've turned them on. Blue collar style and lowbrow concepts of glamour have more widespread and enduring appeal.

As far as why women get fake nails even when they're not in style, it might have less to do with "fashion" and more to do with being an affordable pampering ritual.

And yeah, everything CherryLula already said.

I agree that porn would be a better place, though, without so may long fake nails. They have always made me shudder, especially during "lesbian" fingerbanging scenes.

I get them for photoshoots because it completes a look.. just like tanning. It comes out better on film.

I don't cake my face with MAC makeup on a friday night when I go out... but I do for a photoshoot..

I think shallow dudes like it because it gives them their "purrfect girl"... but uh, when you find "the one"... who loves you regardless... you don't need all that stuff.
