it's been pretty much a year I think...... have resisted all urges....

but I just checked my email and see the call.... "You've been summoned back to Azeroth"

fuck

they are offering me 10 free days and a free trial of the expansion pack

......must...resist...

Turboface 11-14-2008 01:48 AM

Go to your happy place!

I've been WoW-free for almost two years now. I'm just takin' it one day at a time.

:thumbsup

Iron Fist 11-14-2008 01:50 AM

I put down WOW when it was WOW 2....

Glad I have never spent 1 minute in that world... i'd be a much different person today, I know it and fear it.

d-null 11-14-2008 01:56 AM

sometimes I think strange thoughts like how it would be kind of ok to drop out of the world, forget about making money or anything, just enter in to the videogame reality... it is a tempting draw, leave the rat race and all, say fuck it to the stresses of the real world.....

I work with a girl who with her husband are both absolutely addicted to that game... how they can lead any semblance of a normal life is beyond me. I just hope she continues to shower on a daily basis, because girls get stinky after the 2nd day and makes me wanna barf. :disgust

Turboface 11-14-2008 02:05 AM

I am holding my breath for Starcraft 2.

I knew this girl a few years ago, she was actually a real hottie, but absolutely totally addicted to everquest... she got a job at an internet cafe and would play all the time to where she got fired because she was fucking up and not doing her job properly... she would play for 20 hours and then sleep 10 and on and on... haven't seen her in years but I bet she is playing wow now

I told this story in another thread, but I know a woman that is full on addicted to WOW and she ended up getting divorced over it. She would get off work, go home and sit in front of the computer until she fell asleep. She basically got to where she ignored her kids (forgot twice to pick two of them up from baseball practice) and never cooked didn't want to go anywhere. We would all get together and her kids would show up with their dad and say mom is playing WOW. It was sad.

The end came when her computer died on a thursday night. A friend of mine said he would go over on Saturday and look at it. He thought it was either the memory or the hard drive. she couldn't wait 36 hours so she bought a new computer that night (went to a 24 hour walmart at midnight) and installed the game that night. On saturday my buddy finds out it was a memory stick that was bad. A few months later her husband left her. Now she lives in an apartment with a mattress on the floor, a table with the computer on it and pizza boxes everywhere.

Yes and no. She is happy that she can do what she wants, but most of her friends and family are not happy with her because she pretty much neglects her kids. Her days are getting up, going to work, going home and playing WOW until she falls asleep. She gets her kids every other weekend and they either get to watch her play WOW, or watch TV and that is about it she may take them out to lunch or something, but I guess now when she picks them up the kids ask her if she is planning on "raiding" while they are over. (raiding in WOW is when you join a large group to do a big dungeon and it can take hours and hours to complete) if she says anything but "I promise no." They tell her they don't want to go.

So she says she is happy, but often acts miserable. she is one of those people that immerses themselves in whatever they do. She got into scrap booking 5 years ago and spent thousands and thousands of dollars on scrap booking stuff then after a few years it wore off and she found a new hobby. WOW is her current and biggest thing so I think in a while she will tire of it, find something new and be very unhappy with where it left her.

Barefootsies 11-14-2008 05:47 AM

I was fucking this chick last year who was getting a divorce from a hubby who was addicted to WOW.

He worked as main tech over at Whirlpool and he would play WOW at work, and home, basically 20 hours a day. On the weekends, when he was supposed to be with the family, he was on WOW.

She left him. He got fired. Move to an apartment. New tech job. Wow. Fired. Back in with parents. WOW. Now the main time his kids need to talk to him, or get ahold of him, they have to log into WOW at their house. Then they can get a response, or talk to him.

Fucking crazy.

I remember playing EQ for years, and can kinda understand when brand new. But fucking A.

:disgust

Dame 11-14-2008 08:24 AM

I started off playing EQ and went over to the WoW side and been playing it for about a year now. I limit myself to 2 hours a day..maybe 3 but the family comes first. I know quite a few friends that spend their days doing nothing but playing. I guess its priorities that make the difference. I enjoy the game but family and work always come first.

G-Rotica 11-14-2008 09:24 AM

I had to quit, it was ruining my life. It's a time drain and serves no purpose. My wife quit because I did. Last night she told my son-in-law to put his laptop away, becasue he was playing WOW, and it made her want to play. She's jonesing for a hit, but she's trying.

I almost had to pull a WOW intervention with my husband the other night. :1orglaugh

He's wanted me to play with him, but I have to explain that if he likes things like hot dinner and clean socks, he really shouldn't encourage me like that. :1orglaugh

d-null 11-14-2008 09:28 AM

if it's what you want to do, who is to judge

is it better to work 9 to 5 at a job and come home and watch 3 hours of tv every day and repeat indefinitely?

too bad about the woman having kids though, the ideal is if one is free and not tied down by responsibility like that

I think the point here is... if you want to do that, don't have kids in the first place, no harm done. I am all for people fucking up their own lives as long as it doesn't hurt someone else. :2 cents:

Zebra 11-14-2008 10:20 AM

I haven't played in a year, but I feel kinda guilty that I was in line Wednesday at midnight buying my 15 year old the new expansion.

RP Fade 11-14-2008 10:30 AM

Im never going back to the dark side, that game took over 120 playing days of my life.

Marcus Aurelius 11-14-2008 11:15 AM

Somebody buy my account if you seriously want back in, I am trying to resist the urge to get back into playing.

BradM 11-14-2008 11:16 AM

Instead of buying the expansion I did the right thing and deleted the client from both machines. I'm moving on.

/played made me a bit sick.

Only company which can match blizzard is valve. There is nothing else addicted as warcraft/starcraft/diablo and half life/half life 2/counterstrike source.I playing wcIII and cs source almost on daily bases(rarely lately beacuse of a lot of work). Now i played ra3 and fallout3 but that simply not that.Cant wait for starcraft II and diablo III and days of glory.I just hope they wont introduce paying subscribstion to battle net.
