WP 2.7 = Crappiest admin layout ever!
 

I updated a few blogs to wordpress 2.7 and have to say... This new admin layout looks like complete and utter crap! IMHO of course...

The grid layout works for me.

I have some 2.5 or whatever the fuck it is and want to downgrade to an older version.. I don't like any of them from 2.5 up

I'm not digging it all that much either. Hopefully we can get used to it.

Maybe someone third party will release a new Admin setup, like there have been in the past.

Downloaded it last night. So far it seems ok, but I haven't really jumped into it much yet.

All my new installs of it will not upload media giving me an error saying cant find temp directory... anyone have any ideas?

I'm sticking with my 2.6 version...I'm lazy nowadays to upgrade...

The problem with that is WP is increasingly targeted for attack, simply because of its popularity as a publishing platform. Google has been issuing warnings about compromises and both it and WP state that the upgrades include important security patches.

If you have an older version, your server may be currently compromised without your knowledge, pumping out spam emails behind your back, for example...

I had that same error. Here's the fix (as I found on Google):

That error is thrown by PHP and likely you will need to contact your host to have them specify a temporary directory (e.g. upload_tmp_dir in php.ini)

That fixed it on my server.

The new admin is definitely a lot more ergo friendly, everything should be no more then a click or two away from any page.

I've found it to be a lot quicker once I got used to it.

Actually I would think it was really good but I see that many webmasters
want things a certain way.

I just went to ebay and logged in and that is one site I don't like.

Somehow that layout is supposed to make your world easier...

On the right the menus open up with more options without reloading the page... But then... they could have also done that with the old layout...

The dates are now on the far left. I have 24inch monitors so they are not about... hold on.. going to measure this shit.. 11.5 inches away from their old location. I have 15 blogs in tabs per window so the windows are opened full width. This makes it so quick glancing for the last date posted over each tab is a bitch... I preferred it to be closer to center.

For the most part I need NOTHING on that page except for the date... But occasionally I DO need to know that I forgot tags or categories... so I cannot just remove that column... They should let me arrange them in the order I want them in.

yes, I know I can do this by editing the files in the admin directory but each time I update I will have to edit them again...

Basically nothing is in the same spot it once was. Why someone thought this was a great idea I do not know.

While the bulk actions have improved, they completely fucked up everything else.

They certainly did change up the layout quick from the latest "2.0" style layout.

i think they are just doing too many updates

I think it is like when a car company completely changes a car and then wonders why people don't buy it anymore...

I like it much better than the previous one. That one sucked ass badly.
I think it's the best of the WP Admin UIs so far, IMO.

calls in about 300 important changes "we all" need. :1orglaugh

it's not too bad once you get used to it, I didn't like it either when it first came out

i kinda still like the old layout with a plugin like lighter menus, but this one is growing on me slowly

I like it much better than the last one, only thing I don't like is that it doesn't show Scheduled post on the main page, I hope they fix that soon.

You have got to be kidding. That new interface is light years ahead of the horrible old one in terms of usability and ergonomics.

I love it - I actually went back and upgraded my old blogs because I cant use the 2.6 layout anymore!

you know what still pisses me off about these guys at WP.

they know that your blogs get fire bombed with fucking spam comments and they still don't write in a way to mass delete pending comments.

i have to go into phpmyadmin and fucking run commands to kill all the fucking pending comments from the database instead of them just making my life simple.

I really like it. Big step forward as far as admin interface goes IMO

quick edits in 2.7 save a load of time.

hope you used the plugin that auto-upgrades all your blog installs in one swoop :thumbsup

You can disable that thou, was the first thing I did!
