The reason I don't go mainstream.

Very simple :

I have never been able to decide how to make money that way.

I thought about pay per click/adsense and I just don't see the money there without
goo-gobs of traffic, which I don't have.

I haven't seen products that I think I can sell.

Adult is easy, just join sponsors and send traffic.

I know some people are doing it and making big bank, but it's one of those
things where some can do it and others can/will not.

OR....maybe I just like porn. :1orglaugh

ive been involved with both, and hands down adult is MUCH more enjoyable :winkwink: not just because i get to look at boobies all day, but people are much nicer as well

Mainstream is great. It just takes more brain to be successful

BradM 01-05-2009 11:55 AM

Because you're untalented, angry, idiotic and can't program? I'm guessing that is why.

Jesus, would you girls go take your arguments to a private forum or something. It's tiring seeing the little group of you girls bickering at each other like a bunch of high school tawts, non stop in every other topic.

:thumbsup but I'm not really sure it takes more brain, it's just a bit different... the mainstream market is 100x bigger than adult, so there are way more opportunities to make a buck there, so in a way it's actually easier...

marketsmart 01-05-2009 12:11 PM

mainstream rules, but it is def a lot more work....

Hey, I'm not in it anymore. :1orglaugh

I agree.

Well looking at GFY for example I think it's fair to conclude most of the people in adult business are either completely braindead or mentally challenged.

WiredGuy 01-05-2009 12:25 PM

Its completely different mainstream and adult marketing, but there's definitely a lot more money to be made in mainstream.

With adult I never have to worry about content and that is probably what
keeps me doing adult.

Nothing wrong with diversification sometimes. Especially if you have mastered what you do now and have more time on your hands. :thumbsup

:thumbsup agreed

Europeeing Lee 01-05-2009 12:41 PM

the ONLY reason you haven't done anything in mainstream is because you are an idiot who doesn't know any better, and just wants to make new threads on a surfmaster board to see if people click his siggy some more

people EVOLVE from adult into mainstream, it isn't a fucking choice, once you learn enough and get more business sense, you have no choice but to expand outward beyond porn

wyldblyss 01-05-2009 12:52 PM

I am a big believer in as much income as possible coming in from as many sources as possible so for me, I dabble in mainstream too (where I started).

Never hurts to have a backup just in case

germ 01-05-2009 02:21 PM

If you know how to push traffic to websites, it shouldnt really matter what's on those websites.

Promote whatever makes the most money.

Exactly, my grandmother used to say:

"A good salesmen will never be out of a job, it don't matter what they are selling if they are a good salesmen."

Completely relevant in our business.

tony286 01-05-2009 02:47 PM

Alot more money to be made in mainstream but its much much harder to generate free traffic.

Obviously you have no clue about what I do.

But thanks anyway

Yeah, but what do you sale for mainstream?

EthnicLover 01-05-2009 02:52 PM

There are definitely a lot more niches to push in mainstream but there is also potentially a lot more competition. However, if you know how to funnel targeted traffic to your site then you shouldn't have a problem crossing over. Bottom line is though that you've got to enjoy whatever you sell online.

just have a look at clickbank's or paydotcom's marketplace - there's plenty of products!

I had some good off-the-web mainstream but that took so much time.
(brick and mortar type)

I'd like to find a way to do that again without distracting from the wed too much
but so far I haven't seen a clear way to do that.

Its amazing the amount of crap that can be sold online. Just check out these sites and their niches:

Money Clips
Swords
Muffins
Log Cabin Furniture

Friggin swords? I had no idea that many people bought swords in the world. What the hell do they do with them?

So there are a lot of products to push. Just got to find what you like.

I thought clickbank had closed.

I signed up there years ago but never really got into it.

our coffee thing at nonadult.com is doing well for many

That's interesting!

The one thing I really wanted to sell online never had an affilate program.
I spent $600 with them right away.
I asked then about an affiliate program and they said they were closing thier biz
because it was too slow.

Man they should have gotten an affiliate program for sure.
I just think they had no clue about the web.

another thing to consider when going mainstream is the difference in the sales-process.. first i just created blogs, linking to sales-pages. didn't work out. nowadays i create a squeeze-page where people opt-in for a free info product and i make 'em affiliate-sales in the backend (after 4 or 5 autoresponder mails). way better conversions i tell ya.

Holy crap, $42 for 12 muffins..works out to be almost $3.56 each without shipping. As for the shipping, they won't even give you the price of it on the page, you have to enter your credit card number first.

And they say porn is bad lol

Yeah, but have you tasted one yet. :)

Maybe they are "herbal muffins". :1orglaugh

Yeah really. I guess someone is willing to pay a chuck of change for some muffins. I wonder if Gourmet Muffins taste any better than regular ones?

Libertine 01-05-2009 03:51 PM

Mainstream is much easier, in my opinion. People tend to trust you more if you're able to present them with well-written advertisements that are packaged as "content".

EscortBiz 01-05-2009 03:57 PM

mainstream is not easy at all and you need 10x as much money and effort, but if you set it up right and put in the cash time and brains there is lots of money to be made but its not easy at all

I wonder why youtube does not do more.

They don't have to put it on the main page, just have a link to shopping.
