US Air sends 5K to each passenger involved in the crash.

This was pretty fast on their part, each passenger also gets reimbursed for the fare:thumbsup

You just know that won't be enough for some of those passengers. In this sue happy country there will be some million dollar lawsuits coming soon. Greed and stupidity seems to be the order of the day, and ridiculous lawsuits has become a way of life.

Yep, agreed there.

HorseShit 01-20-2009 12:30 PM

$5k for most of them is a good deal

Hopefully they won't be bright enough to read the "if you cash this, that's it" clause on the check until after they've spent it all at walmart.

Fletch XXX 01-20-2009 12:30 PM

i bet if they take the money they cant sue, thats gotta be part of the deal.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 01-20-2009 12:30 PM

i'd love to say good show on part of the airline, but that is bullshit. it is a sue happy world, and all that is happening is that they are throwing some quick settlement money out there in hopes of avoiding any real lawsuits.

INever 01-20-2009 12:32 PM

$50,000 and I'm good. I need a few months off and a vacation after having to walk on water....

JP-pornshooter 01-20-2009 12:32 PM

they have insurance which covers them for much more than that, but i am not sure if they could prove any injuries, perhaps mental pain and agony type stuff.. but i am sure a lot of the PAX will take the 5k.

KillerK 01-20-2009 12:33 PM

$5000 isn't enough for some, since they might have had jewelry and expensive clothes. Plus the time and effort required to re buy everything.

Atleast it is something though.

Well of course. They're not just throwing money off a roof top.

Fat Panda 01-20-2009 12:35 PM

You just said it:greed and stupidity,a way of life. And the worst part is that those stupid people think they do the right thing

Fat Panda 01-20-2009 12:36 PM

if you read the article it sounds like the cash is for replacing property that was on the place since they cant get it back for quite some time

dready 01-20-2009 12:37 PM

:thumbsup

V_RocKs 01-20-2009 12:37 PM

If you fly US Air you don't have $5K worth of clothes and jewelry on.

I agree with you and him in general, but not in this case

IMO suing McDonalds for $1M because the coffee was too hot is pathetic

but I don't see anything wrong in asking for more than $5k for being involved in a plane crash :2 cents:

They are alive + getting 5k That's more then enough IMHO.

I wonder by law if they approve the 5k and cash the check if they can sue for more money as well.

Juicy D. Links 01-20-2009 01:20 PM

I agree they deserve more than $5,000 but not the millions they will more than likely go after.

yeah, but i bet there is a little clause on the back of the check that says "by cashing this check, you agree not to sue us" :1orglaugh

many people will take the cash over waiting months for a lawsuit i bet

Matt 26z 01-20-2009 01:31 PM

How many of you would agree to be on a plane that crashes into a river for $5,000?

collegeboobies 01-20-2009 01:32 PM

That wont stop the coming lawsuits, since the plane was involved in an incident 2 days before the crash.

BOSS1 01-20-2009 01:32 PM

wow a an experience of a lifetime + tv exposure and 5000 bucks good deal... wish i was on that flight

that does not bode well for the overall situation:2 cents:

Honez 01-20-2009 02:24 PM

A flock of birds hits the plane and knocks it out. US Air had one helluva pilot on that plane who landed it and made sure everyone was out before he got out of there. If I was a passenger on that plane I would be happy just to be reimbursed for any expenses I incurred including lost items. I just don't get why some people in this country cannot be ok without pointing fingers and making other people accountable for things out of their control or that are just simply, no fault accidents.

If they take them money and it has the attached clause that they can not sue it will stop it.

The Heron 01-20-2009 02:38 PM

Pretty sure there's a disclosure when you fly about birds and shit, not really the airlines fault so suing them seems stupid.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 01-20-2009 02:43 PM

Anyone of them can file for being traumatised and get millions.

INever 01-20-2009 03:45 PM

If the CEO of US Air gave his compensation package to the 300 or so people on that flight they'd each get $18,000.

The CEO made $5.6 million in stock and compensation in 2006 alone!!

so what does that have to do with anything? The fact that it was no ones fault and that the pilot was so skilled as to save all of their lives is enough. Why the hell should the airline PAY them for saving their lives? It makes no sense. The only people that really win are the lawyers, and all the rest of us are the ones that pay in increased fares.

I don't understand your reasoning on any level at all....:disgust

..

Penthouse Tony 01-20-2009 05:14 PM

They got their checks fast because all eyes are watching. 5k per person well spent.

webgurl 01-20-2009 05:16 PM

I was watching some news coverage and there was this one black
dude they kept looping over and over again he was happy as hell
dancing and in total good mood right after they got rescued ....

i'm sure if you take that 5g's, you cannot sue.

great move on their part though. :thumbsup

also if they did sue and it went to trial, what jury would find the airlines liable

Adam X 01-20-2009 05:26 PM

Yeah, take the money, count your blessings and kiss your green toothbrush goodbye. ;)

alias 01-20-2009 05:28 PM

Pretty cool move. :2 cents:

Mutt 01-20-2009 05:59 PM

what a fucked up society. they don't deserve a penny but it's a nice gesture by the airline. unless information comes out that the airline or pilot was negligent and responsible for the accident they should be happy and grateful to the pilot that they're alive. i'd take the 5K but the thought of suing wouldn't enter my mind - and i wouldn't let a slimebag lawyer put it into my mind - unless he showed me evidence the airline/pilot put my life in danger and put me through that scary shit because of their negligence.

obama talks about change and people taking responsibility - start with the ABA and tear apart the legal system. too many fucking lawyers not adding anything to society, parasites, worse than an adult webmaster that's for sure. at least we produce something.
