Someone stole $25k from us... need suggestions or help

It's a design company, and that's all I'm going to say, but anyone have any suggestions? They are UK based.

LauraLee 03-11-2009 07:26 AM

That is shitty to hear Michael.

Bump for you in finding some recourse.

Sam Granger 03-11-2009 07:27 AM

Lawyer time. Sorry to hear what happened. But how did they do that? Big project? Coding too?

sperbonzo 03-11-2009 07:27 AM

Basically, do you have any expertise as to how to get back at them? I would welcome and pay for help with this.

DutchTeenCash 03-11-2009 07:27 AM

DarkJedi 03-11-2009 07:32 AM

posting the company name / url would be a start

how did they stole from you? you paid 25k in advance (LOL?) and they didn't deliver?

nation-x 03-11-2009 07:34 AM

Holy Crap! $25k must have been one helluva design order.

DutchTeenCash 03-11-2009 07:36 AM

Im thinkin non disclosure that went wrong aka alike the Facebook deal?

HorseShit 03-11-2009 07:36 AM

sperbonzo 03-11-2009 07:38 AM

Unfortunately, It was really our fault. I had hired them to do a job for $4k about in Oct 08. They really didn't do the job, but whatever. Unfortunately I have had the experience before of paying up front for work that doesn't get done.

In any case, about a month later, I was wiring $25k to a processor in the EU. I was rushed as I was leaving that day for a show and I grabbed the wrong template. The money was sent instead to this design firm. I didn't realize it until several days later.

When we contacted them they promised to send the money back. They still haven't up to now.

I don't think that lawyers will be much help here... I need more underhanded and painful ways to get to these guys.

Anyone?

p.s. Go ahead and call me an idiot, I call myself one all the time about this.

.

DarkJedi 03-11-2009 07:41 AM

contact the bank and ask them to reverse the transfer.

stuff like this happens, if you are with a decent bank, they should help

unfortunately, that only works in the first 24 hours of the transfer.

thunder99 03-11-2009 07:45 AM

Are they a registered business in the UK? If so write a letter and send it registered post to their registered office.

Give them a week or two to respond, if they don't get a UK lawyer to write to them.

Be polite, but firm.... you did make the mistake, but I'm pretty sure they do have to return the money once the mistake has been pointed out to them. Might be an idea to offer them 1k or something to cover their bank fee's and time.

Another option might be to sell the debt, don't know much about that but might be worth looking into.

sperbonzo 03-11-2009 07:46 AM

If anyone knows any wicked ways to get back at these guys, PLEASE CONTACT ME!!!

kmanrox 03-11-2009 07:48 AM

aren't you the tool who hacked your employee's ICQ account, chatted with me like you were her trying to find out if she was doing side jobs behind your back or something? you're a fucking paranoid idiot and yet you allow something like this to happen?

Then, if they refuse to give the money back on their own, you're pretty much fucked.

Antonio 03-11-2009 08:11 AM

Looks like you're feeding us some bullcrap, you sent the money by wire? Well, tehn call your bank to call their bank, then not call the police in the UK, if you have to call your police as well, how fucking difficult is that?

What do you think the GFYers are going to help with?

Oh, shit, I get it - you want ME to collect for you? No problem, for %10 I'll shoot them with my laser mouse and get your cash back.
