PETA attacks Obama for swatting a fly, WTF ?!?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,527001,00.html

That article really opened my eyes here. To the families of all of the flies that I've killed in my life, from the deepest depths of my heart, I have to say "I'm VERY sorry and I hope you can find it within yourselves to forgive me, I was ignorant and didn't know any better".

MaDalton 06-18-2009 07:56 AM

only in America

Jman 06-18-2009 07:56 AM

I use to respect Peta's work... but now they are just a bunch of whinners with nothing good to do.

Sad how something that once had a social commitment can become such a joke.

Iron Fist 06-18-2009 07:57 AM

Seriously?

I wanna see more naked PETA bitches.

TampaToker 06-18-2009 07:59 AM

I just seen the news story and all i could do is laugh and shake my head...

Got Porn? 06-18-2009 08:03 AM

What a fucking joke, Obama should send them some fly swatters for their offices.

beerptrol 06-18-2009 08:07 AM

Oh crap, Today I killed a fly, a mosquito, and put some flea medicine on my cats and dogs.
FORGIVE ME PETA! I HAVE SINNED!

Manowar 06-18-2009 08:13 AM

wow, thats stupid

Vasago Reno 06-18-2009 08:13 AM

Definitely some wackos at peta these days.

Don't they have a puppy mill or fur coat store to protest or something?

A stupid fly...jeezus!

How small-minded are these people?

alias 06-18-2009 08:15 AM

Guys, this is just brilliant mass media press release spam for someone's stupid bug catcher device. It's all over everywhere already and they all have the device name.

Props for the trick style.

CDSmith 06-18-2009 08:20 AM

Flies spread diseases and germs and hang out on piles of rotting shit when given the chance.

And PETA, although they do a lot of good, also spread a lot of stupidity with raising moronic issues like this. What's next, picketing all cities that still fog for mosquitoes? Yeah, better to have 10,000 new cases of West Nile Virus every year, great plan.

PETA = fail.

UFGators2007 06-18-2009 08:25 AM

Seriously? How the fuck can people even respect PETA when they come out with this.

Vicious_B 06-18-2009 08:26 AM

PETA is down right ridiculous sometimes. I thought it was a joke when I first heard them talking about it on the radio.

BradM 06-18-2009 08:27 AM

The City of Winnipeg commits genocide.

OMG they just lost my support...faggots

Walter Gropius 06-18-2009 08:34 AM

What a fucking pile of horseshit. A fly flew into my drink the other day and drowned - are the PETA police gonna arrest me for manslaughter? Ubertards.

bronco67 06-18-2009 08:34 AM

Things like this are not a step in the direction of being taken seriously as an organization. Sometimes you just have to keep you mouth shut.

Should have used those humane flea traps and released them back into the wild.

candyflip 06-18-2009 08:44 AM

An interesting bit of info about PETA is that they take in unwanted or unable to be cared for pets via rescue service they operate.

99% of all animals they take in are put down. They make no effort to rehome these animals.

You mean in-laws?

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 06-18-2009 08:53 AM

I was impressed with the Prez's reflexes.

Wouldn't it have been funny if a long serpents tongue came out of Obama's mouth and caught the fly... :1orglaugh

It cracks me up how proud Obama was of his kill that he wanted to display his trophy to the cameras. Probably ought to mount and stuff that bad boy, as a reminder of the day that he single-handedly protected the White House from an aerial attack... :upsidedow

I've read this about them time and time again. Chances are they kill more animals than any other organization in the country. Smooth.

Yep that is so true.. They are absolute hypocrites.

pornguy 06-18-2009 09:05 AM

Nothing amazes me any more about the US.

beerptrol 06-18-2009 09:10 AM

My sister and aunt used to donate money to them often. I think ill start saving all the flies I kill and send it to them c.o.d.

Yen_HerbalRevenue 06-18-2009 09:18 AM

PETA has become such a joke!

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 06-18-2009 09:19 AM

But can Obama catch a fly with chopsticks?

Absolutely brilliant idea, hope you don't mind me sharing it.

biskoppen 06-18-2009 10:06 AM

When does an animal become worth so little that you can kill it just because it's annoying you?

Let's draw a line here..

An ant?
A fly?
A mouse?
A cat?
A dog?

If you can't kill a dog because it's annoying why can you then kill a fly?

Choopa Phil 06-18-2009 10:07 AM

survival of the fittest, its not like were breeding flies to have a swatting competition, this is just rediculous

Life is life, I won't argue that. It is the peta hype which I am calling out.

I'm pretty sure that Kimbo Slice could see you in the same way... and obviously him killing you shouldn't be a problem.

What is PETA's actual position on Obama and the Fly (from peta.org yesterday):

Quote:

Well, I guess it can't be said that President Obama wouldn't hurt a fly. The commander in chief was recently pestered by a fly during an interview. He swatted at the insect and killed the little guy instantly.

Believe it or not, we've actually been contacted by multiple media outlets wanting to know PETA's official response to the executive insect execution.

In a nutshell, our position is this: He isn't the Buddha, he's a human being, and human beings have a long way to go before they think before they act.

If all this has you wondering how you can be a bigger person (figuratively, as well as literally) in your dealings with exoskeletal beings, check out our handy-dandy bug catcher?one of which we are sending to President Obama for future insect incidents.

I can tell you from personal experience that it sure came in handy the other day, when one of my cats was chasing the World's Largest Palmetto Bug around the house.
Today's follow-up from Peta.org:

Quote:

Because we've heard from so many people who want to know more about PETA's position on "Flygate," we've decided to explore the question of "to bee or not to bee" in a bit more depth.

As we all know, human beings often don't think before they act. We don't condemn President Obama for acting on instinct. When the media began contacting us in droves for a statement, we obliged, simply by saying that the president isn't the Buddha and shouldn't be expected to do everything right?if not for that, we would not have brought it up.

It's the media who are making a big deal about the fly swat?not PETA. However, we took the opportunity, when asked, to point out that we do offer lots of ways in which to control insects of all kinds without harming them, including the humane bug catcher we sent President Obama. There is even a chapter in PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk's book Making Kind Choices about how to rid your home of "uninvited guests."

We have lots of other items on our agenda, as you can imagine, and PETA's focus will remain on our core issues?promoting alternatives to eating animals, opposing fur and products made from animal skin, opposing laboratories that torment animals, and fighting the abuse of animals in circus training camps as well as other overt abuses that fall within our mission statement, which states that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment.

We support compassion for all animals, even the most curious, smallest, and least sympathetic ones. We hope that everyone will take inspiration from Nobel Peace Prize?winner Dr. Albert Schweitzer, who believed that even insects were deserving of compassion and who would stop to move a worm from hot pavement to cool earth.

Aware of the problems and responsibilities that go along with an expanded ethical code, Schweitzer said that we each must "live daily from judgment to judgment, deciding each case as it arises, as wisely and mercifully as we can."

We can't stop all suffering, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't stop any. Our wish is for all people to act wisely and mercifully toward animals.
Since so many commented on the Faux News article, I thought it would be fair and balanced to show what was actually posted on the PETA website. :2 cents:
