This is the true threat to the industry as we know it...

Just got a HD flip camera for $159.

Has better image quality than some of the respected pro porn shooters.

A large barrier to amateur porn is that everyone didn't have a camcorder. The SD flip cams are already sub-$100.

Soon these things are going to be more popular than digital cameras.

Like the net is currently flush with self-shot pics, now it will be even more amateur vids that are not shitty quality.

Stop worrying about the tubes ... by the time we get them shut down, there is going to be a glut of amateur porn to replace it.

There will still be plenty of opportunities to make money...I'm not bitching, just observing...gotta put on your thinking caps...something the porn industry used to be known for.

weekly 12-27-2009 05:31 PM

cheap cameras have always been a dime a dozen. This business exists because of digital cameras. Nothing new here.

Loch 12-27-2009 05:31 PM

riiiight....
why on earth would this have any impact?

Agent 488 12-27-2009 05:32 PM

there is already a glut of amateur porn.

dav3 12-27-2009 05:34 PM

So which camera did you get?

Loch 12-27-2009 05:34 PM

Having a cheap camera does not mean anything, and its nothing new either.

Pretty much the same as having a fancy car does not make you a better driver.

Agent 488 12-27-2009 05:35 PM

let's see some cock shots.

epitome 12-27-2009 05:43 PM

OK, think what you like.

I got a flip.

I can have a high quality vid filmed and edited it under 10 minutes -- two buttons and its uploaded to any tube site in a compatible format.

It has never been THIS easy until the last year or so. You used to have to work to get your vids up.

The reality is that most professional porn sucks for different reasons ... amateur porn didn't have enough 'pros' to outweigh the negatives of pro porn. That gap is quickly closing.

A lot of what you see on xtube these days is SD or shot on camera phones. That will slowly be changing. The amateur porn that is out there today sucks because of the quality. The quality will be changing over the next two years...and that is where it's going to bite studio porn in the ass.

It's still not a big deal though...there are plenty of ways to adapt and make money...plenty of obvious ones, some not so obvious...but the typical paysite with no interactivity is going to lose even more turf soon and it won't be just the tubes eroding their market share.

Agent 488: I sent you a video last week...

I have a fancy car and I know it makes me a better driver.....I have a fancy camera, not sure if it makes me a better photographer.

Exactly!

Epitome im sorry but what you are saying does not make any sense...you have been able to get HD came for a few hundred bucks for years....

And as for your SD comment as far as most good producers are concerned that was dead 4 years ago :winkwink:

L-Pink 12-27-2009 05:55 PM

2257 should apply to ANYONE posting porn in the US.

It does!
If US based tubes are checked and do not have proper 2257 they will have to remove it and may be in trouble as well.....
I dont know of any that are based in the US though, do you? (illigal ones that is)

L-Pink 12-27-2009 06:06 PM

I mean even amateurs with just a few viewer submitted photos should worry about getting a knock on the door by the feds.

Truth is, you still have to spend 5 or 6 grand to get a decent video camera to shoot video with legs.
I started shooting 720HD about six years ago and it still looks good. Now I shoot 1920 and it looks even better. But the 720 is still very marketable and I have hundreds of videos shot on it. If you don't stay slightly ahead of the low end consumer, you will lose money.

I agree with you and just how the newsgroups were once community places for couples to share their pics with the masses, its only a matter of time before a tube site is created by users for users to share their content for FREE, much the same way many BBS were in the beginning. Consumers no longer need to pay to see high priced porn especially when the can log on to a tube site supported by ads and donations from the community in order to keep it running. The consumer is in perfect position to push adult producers out of the market if one of them is smart enough to get the idea. Add in a little dating capabilities, web 2.0, and real people-real fucking for the fun of it and not for the cash of it and you have a HUGE problem for adult.

Matt 26z 12-27-2009 06:32 PM

I called this years ago.... that the biggest threat to online porn was the general public's ability to create and share XXX materials with each other, bypassing the industry entirely.

It's as if having sex always required you to buy an escort, and then all of the sudden you could hookup with people you meet at a bar for free. That is what is happening right now to professional porn.

When the production methods and services are there to easily shoot great quality material, easily post it and others can easily find exactly what they want to view (and everyone knows about these sites), that is something that paid porn as we currently know it will not be able to compete with.

None of the adult tubes support HD yet, but the $200 "HD" pocket cameras are a real concern. The next generation of pocket cameras will probably be true HD quality, and it's only a matter of time before the tubes support HD like YouTube now does.

epitome 12-27-2009 06:33 PM

Clearly the people arguing against me aren't listening to my argument.

EASE
EASE
EASE

Yes, the technology has been around for years, yes it's been sub-$500 for years, but it has never been so easy.

Also, where did I say that I shoot porn? Nowhere.

I'll say it one more time...all of this technology has been around for awhile...but getting it on cam, off cam and on a site has never been so easy until very recently.

We're talking the push of a single button.

Yes, this has existed, but it hasn't been mainstream. What a lot of amateurs have been posting is shit from tools that make it easy to upload their videos...until recently that has been crappy shit like their 2 minute camera phone vids.

Uploading your sex tape used to take some effort...now it takes pushing a single button.

Iron Fist 12-27-2009 06:35 PM

When YouTube starts accepting amateur porn video with nudity, then I might get concerned... until then.. who cares.

You are clearly not listening to me. Equipment is only a small part of the equation. I would also guess that apart from being new to the biz, you are also not a photographer. Your opinion is becoming less useful. You need an education in marketing.

Just because someone has a camera, doesn't mean they know how to use it.

Not every asshole with a Flip is Jules Jordan.

Such sites already exist, and are going at exponential rates. There are however reasons to still pay for professional porn. Mostly due to the videos, photos and cams being so-so quality and other production and presentation issues.

Are you under the assumption that the photographer sells porn?

Dare Dorm...xtube...ex-gf sites...dating sites...cam4...paid cam sites...

All seem to be doing better than conventional paysites these days.

Based on what I think you are saying, glamor sites should still be all of the rage...

Keep underestimating people...

There are now amateur YouTube videos that get more viewers than network television shows.

I bet the networks had that same cavalier attitude. So did newspapers. So did fashion magazines.

Many people now spend hours a day on YouTube (now at 1+ billion video views a day), newspapers are dying and bloggers now sit in the front row at New York Fashion Week.

The theme in two out of three of those? Self-produced...

quoted for truth. Its the community aspect the users are after as well as FRESH content not seen anywhere else in a bunch of videos from different companies.

And to the poster above about having a cam doesnt make you a pro, its not hard to place a cam on a tripod. Hot raw amature sex is hot even if it doesnt have 35 camera angles or some "Jules" camera angle. And FREE community that supports itself with FREE new content will make it grow the same way YouTube did decreasing the need paying for a product.

No, no, no.

Still plenty of money to be made...

Just differently.

The industry didn't die after peep booths, betamax, VHS, DVD and it won't die now.

It will require change...just like all of those other times.

edit: I should clarify that I do realize peep booths, betamax, etc. are not the 'adult internet.' However, the Internet should be here for awhile...and I still believe it will be the primary revenue source for the porn industry...I just think that the traditional paysite as we know it will cease to exist sooner than later.

Robbie 12-27-2009 07:10 PM

I don't think it's gonna do anything at all. There are, always have been, and always will be a finite number of women who are willing to shoot porn. Yeah, there are and always have been a glut of people shooting themselves fucking. Either on 8 mm in the 1970s or polaroid pictures.

It doesn't matter. Bottom line is...except for "true amateur" sites nobody will feel the pain from people shooting and uploading their own self shot amateur porn.

If a girl has big tits for instance...she already knows how much that is worth in this world. And every girl learns the power of the pussy at a young age too. IF a particular girl shoots a free amateur porn at home and shares it with the world...she'll quickly figure out how dumb it was to do it for nothing. And then she will want to get paid. End of that girl for freeloaders.

Plus the millions of guys who have a fantasy porn girl that they love will never be satisfied with watching their next door neighbors porn film on a free tube site.

The only guys who will be into what you are describing would be the guys who are into the true amateur niche. And then my question would be...why in the hell would they want to watch a video instead of just going to a live cam site and seeing it LIVE and be able to interact?

Anyway, that's my point of view on it. Won't satisfy the majority of people and is done better already on cam sites.

HandballJim 12-27-2009 07:12 PM

just curious, which HD flip camera would you recommend?

Riffhard 12-27-2009 07:17 PM

What's the camcorder? Is it the one with the funny/short commercials?

Loch 12-27-2009 07:23 PM

My god you guys are truely amaysing, first of all 99% of the GOOD amateur exgf content out there has been shot by very very experienced producers, i find it funny that you think otherwise!

Secondly i HOPE people will start to shoot their own content and make it public, it will create a higher demand and ultimately give US more to target at and sell.

It honestly is comical lol

Waddymelon 12-27-2009 07:28 PM

To me, the biggest flaw with the Flip HD camera (yes I have one) is the shitty built-in microphone, and the lack of an input for an external mic.

I agree.

There is still hope though as long as Google doesn't say fuck it and create an adult section on YouTube... That's not too far fetched of a concept, either .... many Fortune 500 companies have or had porn holdings ... the only difference being that they were/are in the biz on the DL. I like to hope that Google has gone a little too corporate to ever do something like that.

We all know by now that even with free communities there are multiple ways for enterprising companies to profit from them.
