ORLANDO, Fla. -- An employee at SeaWorld Orlando has died after being attacked by a killer whale.

Orange County Fire Rescue spokesman John Mulhall says paramedics were called Wednesday afternoon to the Shamu Stadium at the theme park where they found a worker who could not be revived.

Park guest Victoria Biniak told WKMG-TV that the trainer had just finished explaining to the audience the show they were about to see.

Biniak told the station the whale suddenly came up from the water, grabbed the trainer around the waist and "thrashed her all around" to the point the trainer's shoe fell off.

The guests were evacuated and the park was closed.

Wow, getting killed by a wild animal in forced captivity that eats things the same size as humans..

Very true ... the whale is about the size of the tank they are in. It's not very comparable to the ocean.

I have a good friend who's a dolphin trainer there.

Actually thats like the Great Great grand kid of the first one so 99% chance that this one is a generation or so born in captivity.

Should have lessened the chance of this happening.

Just read that and have seen the show a few times myself poor woman though

Sadly, not the first time it's happened and probably won't be the last.

ive taken my kids to see that same show, its actually a pretty big "show tank" for the crowd but that little underwater viewing area they hold them in is about as big as a 6x9 jail cell by comparison.

interesting it grabbed the woman out of the water though, and they dont even have freakin eyes

I want to see footage of the reaction of the crowd when the trainer was killed.

I have a theory that young kids are so cruel, that they would only laugh at a thing like this.

Not only do they take stunning wild creatures that belong in the ocean and make them live in a tank, they pick the ones with teeth rather than the baleen variety. Then, they make it do tricks several times a day. Even though I know that Sea World is better than most similar parks, I am surprised it doesn't happen more often.

I have seen whales in the wild many times and it is FAR more impressive and soul grabbing that way than in a tank.

News flash baby, all dolphins have teeth. Whoever heard of a baleen dolphin?
