Schwarzenegger orders min wage for state workers

The Terminator says most state employees will be paid the federal minimum of $7.25 per hour for the July pay period.

I'm sure that won't fuck up to many peoples household budgets.

spunky99 07-02-2010 12:01 PM

7.25$ is better then 0.00$

Sly 07-02-2010 12:03 PM

Temporarily and they get their money back as soon as the budget is worked out. Will definitely make for a tight July, but they'll still be getting their money.

And it won't, if they rebudget their expenses and cut out on unnecessary crap.

SykkBoy 07-02-2010 12:08 PM

Great, as if government employees aren't useless enough, now they are making less money and will give a shit even less than they already do...if that's possible

He could just lay them all off and hire everyone new and hungry from the private sector with more realistic wages and benefits. That would suck some eggs.

Totally agree.

I have been watching the news on this and its funny when the Governor had those 2 mandatory days a month off with out pay for state workers, in order to keep everyone employed. Then the employees unions sue and got it reversed. As a result, a lot of workers got layed off. Some of these unions are so genius.

Its funny how they are still trying to argue more money when there isn't any. Treat it like a business and fire people till the budget makes sense. :2 cents:

They can either lay people off and preserve wages, or they can lower wages and preserve jobs. You can't have both.

Yes they can.

Don Pueblo 07-02-2010 12:18 PM

he terminated their wages

Sly 07-02-2010 12:18 PM

I said that incorrectly. You can't save both. Unless you add money.

If he terminated their wages, they wouldn't be recouping the money back. They are.

The illegals are public workers? That would be quite a calamity but I somehow doubt it.

bdld 07-02-2010 12:27 PM

it's either that or raise taxes.

LeRoy 07-02-2010 12:28 PM

Unions are always quick to tell businesses that their ideas are shit but never really have their own viable solutions to things.

iSpyCams 07-02-2010 12:47 PM

Might be time to start "tipping" them like they do in 3rd world countries. The illegals would feel more at home that way too.

If they stopped paying for all the benefits illegal aliens receive CA may not even have a budget issue.

Pathfinder's oldest daughter was hired from the private sector. When she was first hired by the State it was in the health field and required a full degree and experience in that field...which she had both. She went on to get a Master Degree in Public Health and appied for another position with the State that required a Master Degree in Public Health...and eventually was placed in her current position. Her current pay is around $70,000 per year minus the 3 mandantory days off per month. In order to be put into her current position she has spent 9 years in college/internship/training (her current position has a two year learning curve) and and about six years prior job experience...in the health field.

So yeah she could easily be replaced with somebody off the street that is hungry and willing to work with more realistic wages...now couldn't she.

Your daughter isn't the average public sector employee, now is she?

My response was in jest. I don't propose that actually happen.

Not my daughter...I do not have any children (and will never have any)...but I would assume that people in the health care field would have greater requirements than some State employees...if that is what you mean.

charlie g 07-02-2010 08:22 PM

California is shit. When is the big earthquake coming anyway?

"go fuck yourself San Diego"- Ron Burgundy

dynastoned 07-02-2010 09:27 PM

hilarious...

i've worked in the structural steel biz for 5 years before i jumped into this shit. i still have family and friends in the biz. ive seen with my own eyes how california builds new schools all the time. with ridiculously expensive shit thats completely unnecessary. big radius fucking globes filled with glass, his and her gyms (yes two separate gyms for boys and girls is becoming a california standard for high schools), stainless steel handrails everywhere, etc etc etc... doesn't sound like much to the average joe but unless you've actually dealt with the shit were talking hundreds of thousands of dollars (per school) in man hours in fabrication, man hours fixing the shit with RFI's by the project managers, detailers, architects, and erectors etc, etc.... not to mention the countless hours we pay for fucking idiot inspectors that don't do dick but sleep in their car but are mandatory to check all schools with a fine tooth comb. (LOL)

then you drive downtown and watch as the city builds brick center dividers in the street for downtown to make it more pretty, etc, etc...

then they cut the state workers wages and shit? lolol this state is a fucking joke.
