attn: Reality Check Network

It would be nice if you posted a statement about what the fuck is going on, beyond the "we are working on it".

I feel it's probably better they spend their time on fixing the issues rather than delaying the fixing to go on messageboards to post. They are probably stressed as hell right now..

zagi 10-16-2010 08:04 AM

An attacker broke into the network and was able to gain access to the servers, corrupting their OS and making them inoperable. Our only option at this point is to format the machines and attempt a restore from backup.

This is a critical emergency for us and our customers and we will attempt to do everything we possibly can to provide service.

Holy fucking shit, bad month to have lost my local external backup to a harddrive crash. :Oh crap

been meaning to start my company over again, nothing like having a hacker push a reset button to get you moving.

Any well known?

Agent 488 10-16-2010 08:46 AM

looks like they host a fair bit of pirate sites. sucks if someone hacked the network for that reason.

You need to try and restore the smaller servers like say... I dunno.. rtv.gleem.. the back up is only about 10-30 gigs.. Don't start with the big sites first, will take forever!!!

MikeFold 10-16-2010 08:55 AM

looks like vidz.com is there
:(

Domain Broker 10-16-2010 08:56 AM

so every server suffered from the same vulnerability, or

every server had the same global administrator account/password, or

rogue employee.

which one is it?

Just got short info from them that all will be restored, but when, they didnt tell.

CyberHustler 10-16-2010 10:42 AM

Good luck in getting this shit sorted...

sandman! 10-16-2010 10:45 AM

im guessing someone hacked one of the servers with ssh keys on it for all the servers and then used some script / bot to log in from there to all the servers and wreck havoc :(

they just ICQ'd me the same, but can you imagine how long it must take to restore from backups say a huge tube site client? some of those guys have dozens of drives over multiple servers. I assume since they are their money cow's they'd get the first restore, how long till the 100mbps clients get restored..

I wanna go get my backup, anyone live near there (brooklyn) :spawn?

wizzart 10-16-2010 11:23 AM

xvideos.com and vidz.com are down because this

AdultEUhost 10-16-2010 11:29 AM

Good luck with getting everything back online, being hacked always sucks

bolsex 10-16-2010 11:30 AM

wow! major problem!

Niktamer 10-16-2010 11:51 AM

damn, sincerely good luck all

this is titan stress source & huge money lost for everyone involved.

icymelon 10-16-2010 12:05 PM

moral of the story is to have your own backups locally. I try to backup my important sites once week

CrazyWhiteMan 10-16-2010 12:11 PM

fuck this shit, this sucks!!!

ffmihai 10-16-2010 12:13 PM

i hope you guys called everyone at work even if its weekend.

pixovore 10-16-2010 12:37 PM

We have good backups at Vidz,
we do not know how long they will take though.
RCN guys are on it.

webair 10-16-2010 12:46 PM

How long has it been down?

madawgz 10-16-2010 12:46 PM

i dont think they can move forward with the backups until they figure out how this happened so history doesnt repeat itself...

can also be extremely difficult knowing that a backdoor can be lurking anywhere
