mgtarheels 11-02-2010 04:22 PM

It's not overwhelming... Dems are the majority but Ky often goes right, it's a very religious based state.

I was going to say that I do not really know of a state that is as solidly red in every single election as the bluegrass state

even if the republicans take control of the house AND the Senate (which really isn't that likely) Obama will still have plenty of power. Thinking otherwise is just kidding yourself. It is IF he chooses to use that power or if he continues to suckle the cock of the right

Calm down. Rand Paul alone isn't going to swing the Congress.
Also...I voted for Conway. Douchebag versus Turd Sandwich. GO DOUCHEBAG!

Oh damn. I guess your wikipedia link trumps living here for 30 years and voting for 11 of those. I stand corrected.

Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter are the only 2 democratic Presidents to win KY in the last 40 years. We are anything but Liberal here.

pocketkangaroo 11-02-2010 06:22 PM

He gave a good speech. He really has potential to become a major player in Washington.

Will be interesting to see if he really stands up for his statement on the debt ceiling. Still can't see him following through on that promise considering the consequences.

It means two years of nothing getting passed in Congress. I predict complete gridlock, which I have to believe is what the people wanted. They wanted to stop Obama in his tracks and I suppose they will get their wish.

GatorB 11-02-2010 06:53 PM

In a state where cousin marriage has been common and accepted for 200 years it is really shocking?

So with the ecomony faltering the peole want NOTHING to get done? Does that make any sense? They want things WORSE? That's like hoping your cancer goes way by ingoring it.

I look forward to your reaction when Rand Paul runs for President as early as 2016. He could win too.

Ethersynch you seem like a smart guy - you got this one wrong buddy. This guy will be nothing more than a crazed half wit obstructionist.

Fair enough. That's just registered voters though, not actual votes.

We tend to elect a mixed group with a slight slant towards Democrats for Congress. We're more on the conservative side with our presidents though.

1972 presidential election (winner: Nixon) R
1976 presidental election (winner: Carter) D
1980 presidential election (winner: Raegan) R
1984 presidential election (winner: Raegan) R
1988 presidential election (winner: Bush) R
1992 presidential election (winner: Clinton) D
1996 presidential election (winner: Clinton) D
2000 presidential election (winner: Bush) R
2004 presidential election (winner: Bush) R
2008 presidential election (winner: McCain) R

We have traditionally elected Democrats for Governor though.

Point being...to say that Kentucky is traditionally a Red state is false. Especially in recent memory.

I love the speech about getting government out of the way. This is a man whose practice based on medicare payments.

You can't be a republican with being a hypocrite too. It's a rule somewhere.

spazlabz 11-03-2010 06:41 AM

If Rand sticks to his principals we are all fucked. I am not prone to alarm-ism or freaking out about one election but the new speaker better be ready to work to convince these whack-os to compromise with other Republicans or we could be looking at serious repercussions
