What kind of speakers do you have hooked up to your computer?

I'm looking for a decent little system to hook up to my laptop. I used to have my receiver and the whole surround system hooked up but it's too far away now and it's kind of overkill anyway lol.

Basically just looking for a quality inexpensive set of your usual 2 speakers and a sub box combo that I can crank pretty loud.. I bought some cool little USB only Logitech Z-5 ones but it's just 2 little towers no subwoofer and I'm wanting something louder now.

I picked up the Logitech surround system with sub and 5 speakers for around $80 bucks - unreal deal.

Altec

I got a nice little set at Walmart of all places. Its got two little speakers and one big one, by Altec, and they work pretty good.

Nasty 11-16-2010 01:13 AM

klipsch, had them for years, very happy with them

CunningStunt 11-16-2010 01:14 AM

I did have the Logitech ZX-5500, but they developed a fault with the controller, which Logitech refused to fix. I would not by any of their gear ever again, the speakers were only a few years old and were $600 or so at the time. They don't sell controllers separately. Assholes.

Now I have the BOSE Companion 3, Series II, which give an incredible surround sound effect from a 2.1 system. Small form, very very clear sound, can't fault them (other than price).

Go to a big store and listen to them all.

DiF0r 11-16-2010 01:38 AM

I have a Logitech 5.1 system, nothing special..

Antonio 11-16-2010 01:39 AM

I use old speakers that are quite crappy, but about two weeks ago I bought $50 Logitech headphones and I could not believe the quality - absolutely amazing!!!!

digitaldivas 11-16-2010 01:39 AM

I know. Hilarious how people STILL fall for the Bose bullshit. Lifestyle wank.

I suppose, as a marketing man, I should appreciate the way Bose sell people 60 dollar shitty little plastic speakers and make them actually think they sound good.

iSpyCams 11-16-2010 04:40 AM

Since I started using a pair of these I hardly like anything else.

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com...gle?sku=485796

I am sure there are better studio reference speakers, and I much prefer them to consumer speakers.

The difference is that consumer speakers try to "color" the sound to make it sound more like what the designers think will impress consumers, especially consumers who are comparing sound in a retail location, so exaggerating lows and highs would be the norm.

Whereas studio reference monitors are designed to let musicians hear exactly what they played with no bullshit. The result is you hear the music the way the musician intended it, not the way some salesman thought would impress you.

Oh yeah, Klipsch are awesome speakers, I have their Pro-Media 5.1 system.
http://www.digitaltigers.com/images/...tra51_700w.jpg

UNFORTUNATELY they don't make them any more, as far as I know, so they might be tricky to find.

Sly 11-16-2010 08:06 AM

I have your basic Logitech speakers. They do the job for basic audio, but I am behind the computer most of the day listening to music, watching movies, etc. I would like to get a proper setup so I can really jam when I feel like it.

Any recommendations? I don't want anything too overkill and don't want to spend that much money, so I was thinking of your basic out-of-the-box home audio system. Thoughts?

I have a 2.1 set of Edifiers that are pretty good, and my man has a 4.1 set that really kicks. We play it out the back door when we're in the yard and the sound quality is really very good. Built in Canada, too!

My set:

I used to have a huge speaker system hooked up but that was overkill. Sounded great, but wasn't needed. Also, when I rocked out and then later on played one of my games I would have to kill the game to adjust the volume. So I got me these $90 Bose speakers with a volume control on them so I don't have to use the computer to adjust them. They work good enough.

nope - I tested out the B&W set and the Bose and went for the Companion 3 in the end - much much richer in midrange.

That said, I love B&W generally and have their speakers on my hifi. If you *ever* get a chance, check out the B&W PV1 woofer - that is THE best woofer on the market :thumbsup

_Richard_ 11-16-2010 11:15 AM

big ones.
