You are correct, the FF35 is 36x24 and therefore full frame size.

They also offer the S 35 Mysterium X sensor-based brain at around $2500, with a basic level full DSMC camera at around $3K.
The S35 should more than suffice for most people, it's 30x15 so not quite full frame but close.

At THAT price point they will surely give Canon and Nikon a run for their money, at least in semi pro and pro circles.

And since one can just swap out sensors without having to buy a whole new camera one could start "small" with the Mysterium X and upgrade later to the Monstro/FF35 which is full frame.
However Canon, unlike RED, actually releases products, not just pretty renderings of it.
While the RED ONE has been out for a while we'll have to see when the rest of the bunch actually shows up.
Once this happens purchasing pro level photo and video gear will be a whole 'nother game.

Personally I'm very intrigued by RED but until they have all their ducks in a row won't jump on the wagon just yet.
