You have a point but I know of a few niche sites who actually do a fairly good job of getting their content off these places (Not sure if done in house or using a service like RYC). At least all the ones seen by Google anyway. It is possible but you have to continually do it.
Nothing beats typing '<site name> rapidshare' in Google and finding all the links to the pirated content on the surfer forums and elsewhere are dead. That helps to frustrate the surfer trying to pirate your stuff. Hopefully they give up and just buy it.

Being defeatist about it only makes it worse.
