Every program owner should be extremely aggressive about removing their pirate content these days in order to keep good ratios and keep affiliates. From what I see these guys http://removeyourcontent.com/ are serious about the job and should be considered. If you use them (or another good service or you aggressively do it yourself) consider advertising it because IMO (as an affiliate) it makes your program more attractive to promote.

Yeah that site is really bad because it aggregates hundreds of pirate sites. We can use that to our advantage though.

These sites hit the critical mass needed to explode YEARS ago. You will not keep up with them, you will not win by suing surfers (yes you Steve). Everyone is going to have to figure out how to coexist or start a lobbying group and lobby Congress to change the laws / take them down hard.

The cat is out of the bag, even if the USA / Canada / Europe got hardcore they'd pop up in China, Russia and wherever else they could get away with it.

Surfers are well aware of what a tube is now. 50 million DMCA's later you will be in the same place you are now, needing to adjust your business models.

You have a point but I know of a few niche sites who actually do a fairly good job of getting their content off these places (Not sure if done in house or using a service like RYC). At least all the ones seen by Google anyway. It is possible but you have to continually do it.

Nothing beats typing '<site name> rapidshare' in Google and finding all the links to the pirated content on the surfer forums and elsewhere are dead. That helps to frustrate the surfer trying to pirate your stuff. Hopefully they give up and just buy it. Being defeatist about it only makes it worse.

Why doesn't google ban pirate sites instead of giving them rankings for millions of keywords?

Ah, but we aren't at the end of the road yet. Once those niche sites are found out more people will produce content and more will make it to tubes and someone will neglect having it removed. It's bad overall, if you can work your niche site forever then great but most sites don't have this luxury.

True. But then again I tend to focus on a few niches primarily for most of my revenue and have observed that most of the big guys coming in to do it don't know how to do it right. In many niches and micro-niches there are very few who know how to put out the best selling content. Most just don't know the niche. I'd give examples but that would be giving away too many secrets.
