.xxx is just another tld. It will never be mandatory, Google will not list it above .com's, no country is going to ban all adult .com's and make us use .xxx.
Above all else the best thing you can do to protect your business is get a trademark for your site, that way if anybody else has .net , .tv , .co .whatever you can take it from them.
As for Chris taking a job selling .xxx, take the money honey! Ain't nobody around here gonna pay your bills! Just don't bother trying to pitch your shitty .xxx domains to me we are 110% against it.
