To expand on your observation ... I have a guy that worked for me years ago that I still bump into every now and then. He and his family are always broke and bounce from one shitty house to another. He and his wife both have a one or two pack a day cigarette habit. They each have a cell phone as well as both their kids. They have not one but three dogs as well as a huge aquarium setup. They eat out at fast food restaurants or buy frozen dinners ....

They probably easily spend $10,000-$12,000 a year on cigarettes, pets and cell phones not to mention extra food costs. Correct, their lifestyle keeps them down.
