Best place to get a full credit report?

Need to run a credit report on myself to make sure I don't have any bad marks, etc. Where is the best place to do this? Would also like to get my score as well.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

By law, one can get a full credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus free once per year at http://www.annualcreditreport.com

* important: other sites, such as freecreditreport-dot-com are not official - are rip offs - only http://www.annualcreditreport.com is the real McCoy.

As for getting a credit score - there's no requirement for credit bureaus to provide those free, and, hence, far as I'm aware, none do.

However, http://www.creditkarma.com provides credit score estimates that tend to be relatively accurate free of charge - many people use them with no issues; it's legit.

With that said, one can guesstimate their credit score themselves by looking at their credit report ... if one has had no missed / late payments, no defaults, reasonable number of credit accounts open for over 5 years, and debt utilization is less than 50%, the person's credit score is likely very good, such as in the mid 700s*

* Or equivalent - there are many different credit scoring systems with somewhat varying scales ... so even if one orders their credit score, it will likely be different than the scoring system the prospective creditor (ie. car loan, mortgage, insurance, etc company) is using - mostly an issue for people whose credit score is borderline good to very good.

In short, begin at http://www.annualcreditreport.com

Hope this helps.

Ron

True Credit is pushing a free deal. Is this a scam?

It's likely a 30 day free trial that then auto-renews at like $14.95 or whatever - that's how most of those credit report places work...

With that said, if you're willing to pay for such info, TrueCredit may be worth using, since from my understanding, it's operated by one of the major credit bureaus TransUnion.

Bottom line is if such a service asks for a credit number and/or other payment method (ie. bank account number, PayPal, etc) it's likely NOT free.

as someone who works in the credit industry, do the following:

get your free report annually from annualcreditreport.com. if you need any others, get them directly from the experian, equifax, tranunion credit bureaus. if you want scores, such as fico scores, go to myfico.com and you can get your equifax and transunion scores. Experian doesn't offer scores to the public anymore and hasn't for over a year. Enjoy
