Is there a good, free alternative to Photoshop?

I tried Gimp and didn't like that.

Paint.net is what I'm using now and it's not too shabby... but I still think Photoshop is 100x easier to use.

I just bought a new desktop and I need something on this machine for basic photo editing.

Thanks GFY!

I do. My wife just upgraded her copy to X3. I'm still back at PSP X. It works for me, so why should I change? Especially since mine's been paid off for 3 years.

I install PSP 5 on all my machines. I want something that loads instantly when I click a jpg, not something that takes even 4 or 5 seconds. Works great for such an old program. I have a few ancient plugins that I install with it too. Does basically everything I need.

I'm using PSP X2. I don't do anything fancy, so it more than meets my needs.

I do but I wouldn't really consider it an alternative to, much less a replacement for, Photoshop

I've used Sumo a few times, not bad as an online alternative.

Graphic wise, anything that can be made in Photoshop can be done in Gimp. Other than a few newer features, most everything in Photoshop can be added to Gimp, to make Gimp do exactly what Photoshop does.

PS is the best "photo" editor... graphic design wise, PS is just another tool.

If you only need it for Photo editing, I'd just use Photoshop Express. It's a browser based app and is free to use.

Pixlr is by far the best and closest to photoshop. And it's 'in the cloud'. I love it.

I just use PS CS5 and I really like having the animation integrated versus having to run Image Ready at same time. With my new PC it loads CS5 in about 3 sec so it aint too bad. I use PS Express on my iphone for basic editing and it does pretty good on phone pictures if needed. I have never used pixlr and just a little bit of PSP, I used to love Photoshop deluxe small business edition back in the day it did everything i needed.

I've been using GIMP for 10+ years and feel lost when I get to photoshop... Once you figure out where all the equivelant photoshop features are hidden in GIMP you can do everything you need to.
