Windows 7 Search Feature Help Please!

Ok, this is a total noob question but I can't seem to figure out the search feature in Windows7. All I want to do is search for a Word document that I don't know the name of but I have a printed copy of the document with some unique strings of characters that I can search for.

So essentially I'm trying to figure out how to seach all ".doc" files containing "abcdefghijklmonp" for example. "abcdefghijklmonp" is not in the file name of the but rather it is text found within the document itself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is it possible to search within the file to find a string of text??

Is this normal with other windows versions??

If it is, it's news to me!

I'm pretty sure I recall doing it in Vista, although I'm not 100% sure. You would think it wouldn't be an issue to search a string of text within a file.

Bing "Google". It's the cool new way to search and get answers quickly.

I do this all the time in XP (still the best version of Windows). In Windows Explorer right click on whatever directory or drive you want to search, choose Search. A windows opens with boxes for what you want to search for, and under it "Containing text".

Took me 5 seconds to Google the fact that Windows 7 doesn't seem to work like this and is therefore even more shit than I thought already. Try this suggestion:

"Go to Folder Options and select 'Always search file names and contents'

Probably the file types still have to be set up correctly in Advanced Options of Indexing Options"

If that doesn't work (and I would would personally not hit Windows 7, so I have no idea) Google for a better answer or download Astrogrep.
