Selling a domain, how to not get scammed?

I have someone offering me 2k for a domain, I think they are real (lol), so I might go ahead with this.

However I am wondering what is the safest way to do this? Should I use escrow for that amount? Or is paypal ok? its a godaddy domain.

any tips what to do or be aware of appreciated! I usually only do biz with people from here so if I get burned on this nowhere to bitch. LOL

cheers!

I'd Escrow(.com) it for sure. Perhaps split the fees.

Escrow walks you through the steps.. short of it though, they pay escrow, you transfer the domain, they confirm they got the domain & escrow confirms it, escrow will then release the money.

Definitely Escrow dot com. Anyone can reverse a Paypal transaction. Paypal is happy to do so.

Sedo domain transfer has one service too, they are very specific and control the steps. But escrow.com is a very stable service too, just not specialized in domains just the same way as sedo is. Either one will be just fine.

Moniker has one domain transfer service with escrow features too.

lol um no. mainstream.

I'll say it was a niche market .com, and you know how this site has such a great name? gfy that is. Well it's a recognizable saying. Along those same lines but with a mainstream thing. Most people wouldn't have a clue, and I've had the domain for like 6 years.

I gave up buying shoes for domains years ago. And mainstream is where it's at.

ps. cam domains aren't worth shit unless they're reallly special lol. duh

hey another question.... the buyer has three days to "inspect," and then escrow releases the funds?

they paid, I pushed them the domain, do they have to confirm they received it, or just three days and funds released?

You'll have a negative balance on your paypal account rendering it useless until you pay it back.

Lol.. I dont really plan to use PP as they take high % fee from the transactions.

But I guess they must have a proven reason to do that reverse transfer.

the buyer can log in and confirm they have received and accepted the domain. this closes the transaction and you'll get paid in a day or so after that.

Escrow.com is not a real escrow. They never take control of the domain and the money and organize the actual transfer. They have no real way to verify that you transferred the domain or the owner received it, other then whois, etc which can be faked. A lot of people use Escrow.com and all goes well, but this does not mean it's safe.

Use moniker or sedo escrow. They take control of the domain and the money before transferring either to the other party. Do not do a paypal /goddady exchange. Lots of scams going on with phished paypal accounts, and once the chargeback happens, godaddy will not chase down the domain for you and you will be fucked.

Ask them to pay first before the transfer or use an escrow service.

Thank you for answering that.

I am wondering what happens if they don't confirm they received the domain? Will escrow still pay me? I figure that's the three day wait?

if they don't confirm yeah, its 3 days. i think normally escrow will check to see if the whois is in the new buyers name and if it was it will be automaticallty confirmed as received and in 3 days, will be automatically accepted and closed.

ive sold a few domains this way. depending on the parties, they will split the fees, but its on who wants the domain more. fees are all that bad, but sure worth paying them then taking a risk with paypal or check
