ticket is $30 dollars.. no big deal but this $62 dollar "court costs" if you go to court and are found guilt OR if you are prepaying the ticket to avoid court... isn't that the point of paying before court to avoid court costs?

the charge is "fail to obey a hwy sign (no u-turn)" and its 30 dollars.. all traffic court costs are $62 according to their automate phone system..

also criminal cases are $82 court costs...

just "because" ?? seems bogus to me

Same way it's legal in CA to tag on court costs, plus private sector "handling fees" to non governmental agencies hired by the court system to process transactions... It's a fucking racket.

They do it because they can IMO I had one in VA a little bit back and it ended up costing me $185. But on the other had you could get a lawyer and go to court but that would cost more.

are you pleading guilty when you pay the ticket? If so, then the court cost are legit and are forgoing the trial. If it were to actually go to court, I am GUESSING that it would then cost MUCH more than $62

Also, if you do not have any recent tickets, go to court and ask for differed judification. It takes 3 minutes tops and you will get it.

6 months without a ticket and it goes away... BUT, if you get another ticket within 6 months, you get nailed for both.

They fully expect you to show up, talk to the DA and get it dismissed, just so long as you pay the court cost. It was never about the $30 ticket.

Least it's itemised. Around here (Victoria, Australia) if you're only 4km/hr (2.5m/hr) over the limit you get fined around $USD150. No breakdown of what it's for, or where it goes.

Situation got so bad in Pennsylvania decades ago with local "speed traps", that when portable radar units became widely available, Pennsylvania forbid most (there are now some exceptions due to recent changes in law) use of radar except by PA state police.
