Oisters eaters, advice needed..

So, I'm opening some oister here at home and this guy in a video tells me that a way to check if the oister is still alive (which they must be, otherwise dangerious to eat) is to put a few drops of lemonjuice on it to see if it contracs, if not - its dead and must be thrown away..

But, other videos just tells me to see if the shell is still tighly closed which means its alive..

So, my oisters are closed.. but none of them reacted AT ALL to the lemonjuice

Help a clueless one

If they are closed tight you are all good. I eat them all the time at oyster bars and they open them and cut them loose and never test them with lemon juice.

No, really? /sarcasm

You should put the lemon juice on the oyster AFTER opening it. Not on the shell

But read the post above

if you opened them completely then they are dead pretty quick and wont react to lemon juice anyway.

If the shell is tightly shut, the oyster is still alive.

I love raw oysters, but you're always taking some degree of risk when you eat them. To reduce that risk while still keeping them nice and juicy you can spread them on a broiling pan with water underneath. Drape a damp towel over them and steam them until they start to open.
